CyndieRI reacted to ewms in I feel like I blew it
I ate decently: small amount of Turkey in small bites, a very small amount of dressing, two bites of mac n cheese...
But later I ate a piece of pie with whipped cream. Almost a whole small sliver.
And I had 3 alcohol drinks throughout the day (from 12-8pm).
Now I have the typical fat, shameful remorse that i always have had after pigging out. But I now have the additional fear DID I RUIN WHAT I HAVE COME THIS FAR WITH? I'm 6.5 mos out. What if I stretched out my sleeve with two glasses of champagne. I drank s-l-o-w but it's still bubbly.
Tomorrow has to be a restart day. Protein Shakes, Water, water, water. I didn't think holidays would be this hard. I thought it'd be me chatting with all the family and hearing how great I look (motivation before dining). But our plans fell through and...I messed up.

Sweets are my weakness too. But I recently made a completely horrible and totally wonderful discovery. The primary reason I decided on WLS was too manage my serious knee pain. It started to improve during my pre-op diet and stayed good until a month or so ago, when it started to return. I was still losing so that made no sense to me. When I thought about what had changed it was that I had reintroduced sugar to my diet. I ran an experiment eliminating sugar and say all too clearly that sugar was causing most of my pain! This makes me sad but I’m also very grateful to know that I can control my pain levels so simply. Simply but not easily. The struggles is real but we can do this!

    Nice Matt! I agree 100%.
Having said that. Find alternatives to the sweets you are eating. We all get that sweet tooth at one time or another but there are plenty of options out there to assist. One of my favorite i learned a long time ago while on a diet plan was the apple pie filling.. Cut up and apple, add a little bit of splenda, cinnamon, and i think a dash of cornstarch.. with a tablespoon of Water. I will have to find the exact recipe. But you microwave it. It taste just like apple pie, warm. if you are in the period of your journey where you can add Enlightened or halo top.. then add just a little. Warning it melts very fast LOL.. but it sure hit the spot when i needed something sweet.

If you are in a position to, don't have them in the home. If they are there for other people, ask them to put them somewhere relevant to them and out of your sight.
If at work, again make sure they are out of your sight.
In general though, don't buy them and if given them as a gift, regift them as soon as possible!

CyndieRI got a reaction from clsumrall in Only 3lbs down since surgery
When I came home from the hospital I weighed myself the next morning (I was stupid - they told me not to). I figured I would be down because I hadn’t eaten in 3 days. I had GAINED 9lbs!! I couldn’t believe it! But then I realized since I hadn’t eaten if was obviously all the fluids they pumped on me! By my 2 week post-op appointment (my surgeon doesn’t do 1 week) I had lost THOSE 9 lbs plus 10 more!! So down overall 10lbs in 2 weeks! My point is - especially right after surgery you can’t stress about the weight because you probably still have Fluid in you. As long as you are drinking your Water and getting your Protein in you will do great! Good luck!!

I guess I was just scared. I felt like the sleeve only affected my stomach and not my intestines which seemed safer to me. Also my surgeon said if I didn’t get to where I wanted to be, she could always do the bypass later. I’m only 4 1/2 weeks post surgery so right now things are good (fortunately no GERD)!

CyndieRI reacted to JessaK in How did you do it?
I had my surgery done at a private hospital that only does Bariatric Surgery. There are several surgeons and nutritionists. The care is intrigrated from start to finish.
My plan from my nutritionist is a very simple framework. Eat 3 meals, 2 Snacks, 2 hours apart. Eat these foods, don’t eat these foods. Drink X Water, Get X Protein, don’t exceed X fat per day (not low fat). No calorie counting.
I’m not looking to compare but I am truly interested in how everyone is going about their eating plan. What has your nutritionist advised you to do? Is it helping you build lifelong, sustainable habits?
⭐️⭐️PLEASE leave all judgement of others eating plans out of your comments! Just because something works for you doesn’t mean someone else is doing it wrong.

That’s awesome! I’ll be 5 weeks tomorrow! I feel great except I am having a tough time with meat (and I LOVE meat!). I’m in a stall right now - I have a digital scare and I’ve been at 300.8 for a week!! Why couldn’t the stall have been at 299.8?? At least I’d be under 300 - lol! I’m hoping mine ends soon!

I loved cauliflower pizza with grilled chicken and red peppers prior to surgery. I was thinking of trying again but I wasn’t sure how I would tolerate it. Your post has given me hope that I might be able to (well, probably not with chicken!). Have you tried the Califlour crusts? They are amazing!!

Good luck with your follow up appointment and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Had my surgery 5 weeks ago today. Seems like longer! I did have a stall for a week or so but I got on the scale this morning and I’m down 2 more pounds!
I’ve been able to tolerate most foods. Sometimes I forget to chew well enough or eat to fast. I’m happy to say that I can drink coffee again. It tasted awful for the first few weeks.
I made cauliflower pizza the other night and it was delicious! My family had regular pizza and I ate mine and didn’t feel deprived. They all tried mine and loved it!
I see my doctor tomorrow for my follow up.
I hope you all have a happy thanksgiving.

Hi Jed! I was 365 at my highest (which is pretty high for a woman) and I also had the sleeve. A couple of my friends thought I should do the bypass because I had/have so much to lose but my surgeon left it up to me so I chose the sleeve because of the slightly lower complication rate. Surgery was 1 month ago and I’ve lost 61 lbs (38 before surgery and 23 since). The good news about being REALLY overweight is you tend to lose faster than people with less to lose. Good luck to you!!

Been falling back into old habits myself these last few weeks. Started off with a pint. Only drank half and felt "great". Finished the other half the next day and same. Repeated again a few days later. Then moved onto a 1.75ml bottle thinking it'll last me waaaay longer and wind up cheaper. Well it lasted longer but my intake increased quite a bit. and started feeling like **** the next morning. Of course I had to finish the bottle because my brain works that way when it comes to alcohol. I've done great up to this point since surgery not drinking but old habits die hard.
For me I think the only way to avoid it is to stay away from it completely. I can't have it in the house otherwise it will be in a glass and being consumed. Pre surgery I was drinking a 1.75 sized bottle every two nights. That was for at least a year long period. I can't remember how many years it's been I've had an issue but this surgery was a way to help me kick it. The way I've felt over the last few months is amazing. I thought I'd never feel like this again. It's way to important to me now to give it up. I always said I'd never completely quit drinking but I think that's the only way I can be successful.
Never saw myself as an AA type of guy so couldn't bring myself to ever going but being here helps tons even though the support here is not for this issue. You've got my support as much as you need it. If you need an ear to bother DON'T hesitate to hit me up. Best of luck to all of us fighting this battle as well!!!

CyndieRI reacted to catwoman7 in 4 week post-op weight loss meltdown
a majority of people experience their first stall about three weeks after surgery (search for "the three week stall" (it even has a name!)). The first month or so is also when you'll typically see your biggest losses, after that, your 2.2 lbs a week thing is pretty common. Just stick to your plan and the weight will come off. After the first month, I lost about 10-12 lbs a month for awhile (and once I was about six or seven months out, it came off even slower). But I've lost over 200 lbs in total, so it does work as long as you stick to your program.

Well, it's the time of the year, where we get ready to put on our running shoes and fight for no-name TV's cook holiday dinners. I am blessed to live in California, and it is apple season here. Today I went apple picking and got some Red Delicious, Johnagold and Granny Smiths. I absolutely love apple pie. This is obviously not a great food to eat, at least when prepared as usual. I'm curious if others have no-dump recipes for Apple pies (Or to open this up more, anything you'd find on a Thanksgiving dinner). I know I could bake a pie with Spenda or Truvia, but I'm trying to figure out how to make a crust that would be low/no carb.

So, I waited until today, Day 3 of the liquid pre-op diet, to post. Yesterday was awful. Total lack of concentration at work, perpetual headache, hunger....Then today. It's like a switch went off. I feel energized, positive. Still a bit of a headache but nothing like yesterday. I can do this!! How did everyone else do on their dreaded pre-op diet? Did you ever want to cheat? If I had been asked that question yesterday, I think I would have answered differently. Today, I know I can stay on course. I need to do this for me. Cheating would only be hurting myself and this whole journey is about finally loving and respecting myself! WHOOHOO!!
