  1. So I am starting to make a donate clothing pile. It’s weird though mentally since I’ve been down 30-40 lbs. over the past 10 years and have kept 4 sizes. So now it seems strange to commit to getting rid of a size I will never again wear verses in the past putting them towards the back. In the past I guess it was almost mentally setting myself up fir failure knowing I had jeans that would fit if/when I regained 30 pounds.
  2. I never had an issue drinking tap water after surgery but some people did due to an off taste. They used the Mio sugar free flavors and bought 3-4 different brands of bottled water. I did the same but never had to use them.
  3. Yes. I broke out in a terrible rash a few days after surgery. Not sure if it was that or something used during surgery. My advise would just be to make sure you rinse it off really well. I also used a new clean towel after each shower.
  4. I was told I couldn't take a pill larger than a dime (I had RNY). I am taking chewable vitamins no but the procure brand has a capsule but it shows a picture of it the size of a dime. Is anyone here able to take a pill that big. I does say the capsule is a quick dissolving veggie base so I don't think it would get stuck but I'm hesitant to try to swallow anything the size of a quarter yet.
  5. Also-I didn’t get he cherry flavored. I got the original one that says sugar free.
  6. I initially had to take milk of magnesia 2-3x a day once I moved on from liquids. Now if it’s been 30 hours I take a half to full dose to keep things regular. My doctor didn’t allowed potatoes until 4 months out and no fruit veggies or applesauce. That may be causing the issue too. I have 1 shake, one yogurt, a laughing cow soft cheese then about 2 ounces of tuna or an egg. I’m also really strict with drinking at least 64 oz of fluids. The thing that I think helps me most is eating a quarter cup of retried beans. It’s basically my only source of fiber so if it’s been 24 hours that’s what I eat. Now I only need to take the milk of magnesia 1-2 x week. I had tried a stool softner a few days after surgery and hope to never do that again. I was miserable with cramping.
  7. I’m 3 1/2 weeks post bypass. I ate about 3 oz of fish and 3 hours later tried 1/4 c rectors beans. I got ill and had the foamier. Never want to do that again. It was so painful!! I think it’s because I ate the beans too quickly (I have had them a few times last week without issues. Is it possible I still had the fish in my stomach from 3 hours before. How long does it take fir food to leave the new stomach? I have heard water and yogurt move quickly within minutes.
  8. I’m 3 1/2 weeks post RNY. I ate some eggs (had them a few times already) but I think I didn’t chew enough. I don’t feel pain in the middle of my chest like most people say but in my left shoulder blade. Anyone else have this? I happened a few minutes after about a tablespoon. I’ve been able to eat 3 oz if tuna or a whole egg in 15-20 minutes and drink fairly easy so this was a surprise.
  9. From what I understand is that it can cause ulcers. If it is for joint or back pain you could try Biofreeze.
  10. Bypass was 2 1/2 weeks ago. MD skips purée stage and said to start soft food. So far 1/4 c cottage cheese was fine. I had an egg yesterday all was fine. I had a 90% of a scrambled egg over 20 minutes. It’s been over an hour and I have an annoying ached between my shoulder blades. Is this normal to get this delayed discomfort?
  11. I read somewhere that when it happens you are supposed to put your tongue against the roof of your mouth. Not sure why that would help but it's worth a try.
  12. I am going to start purees this week. I have a regular blender that is a pain to clean and a big food processor. What kind of hand blender do you have? I am assuming I will use it long term so I don't mind spending $30-50. Certain attachments or anything especially handy?
  13. Ice pack is great!! It helps with the general swelling too.
  14. I know I shouldn't but I weight myself every morning and a few times during the day. 6-7 days after surgery I was down 8 lb. but the last 5 days I am bouncing around and basically only lost 2 lbs. Ugh. I am estimating I am burning 1500-2000 calories and only getting in 450-500 calories. I know it's early etc and tomorrow I could wake up and suddenly be down 2 lbs but I am feeling frustrated. I see the NUT and MD Wed. and am anticipating advancing to soft foods and thus my calories will probably go up so I am already thinking this is going to be so slow.
  15. You can also get the protein flavored waters. I have found the premade shakes are better blended than powder and milk at home. When I do make one at home I shake it then put it in the freezer for 10 minutes to get cold and for the bubbles to dissolve, that helps.
  16. Just a thought-have you tried alkaline water. I can get a gallon for $4-$5 at the grocery store. It helped vs tap water when my reflux was bad.
  17. I would think it may get better when your weight loss stabilizes. Maybe try adding a sugar free Gatorade daily.
  18. So I had surgery 10 days ago. We have a scheduled trip at 4.5 weeks post op. It includes a day at an amusement park and the beach. I am guessing I wont get into the ocean past my knees which is fine and I wont do any roller coaster rides etc. My husband is worried I wont be able to eat, will get dehydrated etc and wants to cancel. How hard is it to find and eat soft foods when out and about? The thing that worries me is trying a new fish etc for the first time at a restaurant. I know I can take shakes with me and have yogurt and feel safe with that so far.
  19. I am not allowed to take capsules, only tablets smaller than a dime. I have the chewable ones. They are kinda gross. maybe you can open the capsule and sprinkle it over a spoon of yogurt to swallow. If not set aside the capsules and get chewable for now?
  20. YES!! I had it 2/18. It was quiet for the first 2 days then my intestines finally started to "wake up". It sounded like thunder but finally stopped after my first BM (sorry TMI) on day3/4.
  21. I had bypass last Monday. The next day I had what seemed like heat rash or fungal rash under breasts and at my sides. I thought it was due to lying on a plastic hospital mattress. I went home and tried an antifungal cream, diaper cream without much relief. I also ended up with thrush and started an oral rinse for that 4 days after surgery. That is improving but the rash just keeps getting worse. I called the Md over the weekend and they think it is a reaction to the adhesive from the surgery and to start Benedryl and ot use hydrocortisone cream. I started that and it's been 24 hours and the rash is still spreading and itchy now covering my whole abdomen, sides and spreading towards my back. I am seeing the doctor in a few hours but I know they don't want me on steroids if at all possible. Has anyone dealt with this?
  22. So I think I had soup too quickly and now I have a dull ache in my back. If you drink too quick do you get nauseated and immediate pain or can it be just discomfort too?
  23. I had surgery last Monday. I had the gastric bypass. I’m able to time myself and every two minutes I’m able to take about 1 to 2 ounces of fluid whether it’s water or chicken broth. So over the course of an hour I’m able to drink a cup. Is this too much? Or does fluid go right through your pouch?
  24. I found that instead of trying to drink from a big cup pour 2 ounces into a shot glass or smaller cup. then put a 10 minute timer on with a goal to finish the cup in 10 minutes. I did this 2-3 times and hour, then just sipped on water in between then focused again on getting 2 ounces in over 10 minutes. Today is day 5 and I have already hit 40g protein and 30oz of fluids. Also my doctor counts the shakes into the total fluids (even the yogurt counts towards fluid ounces). I also found that reclining in bed and trying to drink didn't work well. I needed to be sitting straight up.
