Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

I am approaching one year. I’ve lost about 90 pounds from highest. I exercise every day. I drink protein shakes and mainly eat turkey chili. I still have problems eating certain food. But I am so much happier.

    The Maintenance Thread

I’m getting closer to goal weight and the idea of maintenance is terrifying. I know how to lose weight, but never keep it off permanently. I am following weight watchers, but I find I graze all day too. I stay in my calorie range plus do an hour of exercise a day. So I’ve steadily lost over 70 pounds in the last year. But as I get closer to my goal weight, I have to focus on how to keep steady. I eat small portions and snack on fruit, but my sweet tooth never went away after surgery.

    I can’t date overweight people

If you had a problem with Alcohol, you wouldn’t want to date someone who was a big drinker. Find someone who has the same priorities and life goals as you. That is not shallow, it’s smart.
  6. All I can say is- I have my life back. Was it worth it? 100%.

To Tell or NOT to Tell

I only told my immediate family (husband, daughter, mother and one close friend.). I’ve lost almost 90 pounds and people obviously notice but I don’t think it’s any of their business. I credit healthy eating and running.

    Pounds lost

Almost a year out. 85 pounds.
  10. Does anyone else feel like they are drinking too fast? I have not had too many problems getting anything down- water, protein shake, broth- but I feel like I'm drinking it like I did before. It will take me about 20 min to finish a 8 ounce protein drink. And that is with me trying to go slow. I use the small one ounce cups- but I just drink and repeat. I'm not sure how bad.this is, but I keep reading that you shouldn't do this. What have others done?
  11. I am so thankful for the continued weight loss after my bypass. I measure in 10 pound increments. Out of the 190’s and into the 180’s!

    Made new weight range!

I now notice that the design in the tile looks like cracks in the picture- so it looks like I am breaking the floor with my weight! LOL!
  13. This is a personal reflection. I felt like 2018 was a really bad year. Work drama, lots of stress, personal concerns. Just not really happy in general. Then I remembered that 2018 will always be the year I had gastric bypass, and it is changing my life. 2018 has set me up for a terrific 2019. Down 50 pounds in 4 months and RUNNING again. I love to run. I feel free and it takes away all my stress. So thank you 2018! Thank you for everything and for bringing me to a new year full of promise! Happy new year, pals! May this year be your year of change too!

    Onederland!

I’m 18 weeks post bypass. For the first time in more years than I can remember- I am in onederland! I feel so much better now. More energy, easier to exercise, not as self conscious. I am thankful for this opportunity to lead a healthier life.

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

Before surgery, I didn’t eat much red meat and ate mainly chicken, turkey, eggs, shrimp. Post surgery- I can only tolerate steak and can not tolerate any of the foods I loved. I can only eat a couple bites of steak though, not a whole steak. I think everyone is different.

    Bad day

Just need to vent. I am about 1.5 weeks out of gastric bypass. Things have been going quite well. Today I had a terrible day at work and went back to eating like before. Of course the difference now is “over-eating” is maybe eating a cup vs 1/4 cup. However, my stomach is killing me and I feel so sick. And disappointed with myself. I know everyone on the forum says people should not complain about loss not coming fast or stalls. And I know I am literally 1.5 weeks out from surgery. But I have lost nothing. Same weight today as the day of surgery. You wait for months, go through specific diet, pain of surgery. I did go up after surgery and that is all gone now- but I keep hearing about people losing 10 pounds first week and I’m starting to feel like I did this for nothing. I was already doing weight watchers and trying to eat healthy and exercise. Will my results be any different if I had just kept doing that? Losing 1-2 pounds per week? I try to be upbeat most of the time and think positively, but this day has just gotten to me. Just a bad work day which is killing my self confidence and making me feel useless. Tomorrow is a new day. Thanks for listening.

    Bad day

Yes. I added exercise in more and have lost close to 50 pounds now! Just keep going.
  19. I have done WW for years. Before surgery and after. I lost a lot of weight on WW but then over the years went back to bad habits and regained. I wanted the surgery as a tool for long term loss. I went back to WW a couple months after surgery and it’s been great. I track food, exercise, drink water and weighing each week shows me the progress. The program essentially is about healthy eating, learning moderation, and moving more. Which is exactly what you have to do after surgery. But, it only works if you really do the program. Lots of people go but then eat what they want and wonder why they aren’t successful. Find a good meeting where you feel comfortable and can talk and meet some people. A few of my WW buddies have become really great friends and people I can talk to about my progress and set backs.

    600 pound life!

Love 600 pound life. Also on YouTube- secret eaters, fat families and supersize vs super skinny. I watch on treadmill.
  21. A human head and human leg!
  22. I’m 16 weeks out and I still can’t tolerate many meats. Oddly, steak is ok but turkey, chicken, bread, eggs, shrimp and other meats I immediately throw up. I feel so bad after getting sick that it’s not worth it. Beans are ok so I use those and protein shakes to meet protein requirements.
  23. Challenge Starting weight: 199 Current weight lost: 30 Losing or maintaining weight: Lose Fitness/exercise goal: 5-6/week Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (from Dec 5 through Jan. 1)- 10 pounds Check in: Tell us how you are doing -I am doing well with small portions and have started running again, which I love. I used to like things which were pretty healthy for me- grilled chicken, eggs, etc. Now I have a really hard time with certain meats (chicken, turkey) and can't stand eggs. I also do weight watchers, so I track everything.
