  1. I am game for a get together. You know... hypothetically of course.
  2. You spelled it right. Fills are just weird for most people, some people swell after a fill, other people like me get nervous and spasm making it hard to even take a fill. So by looking at the fluoroscopy you can find the right neighborhood, but as soon as you walk out of the office, that could all change. If you are a sweller, you may not be able to take in liquids. The swelling would go down, but you would be dangerously dehydrated by then. If you are a nervous Nellie, your perfect restriction fades on the walk to the car. Talk about an expensive fill. ...bblluuup.. all gone Still others feel no restriction for two weeks! What? I suppose it is just easiest to say that messing with ones innards is a lesson in weirdness. That is why we try to sneak up on restriction since large fills tend to intensify our quirks.
  3. :welcomeB: ZOE!! I am a Kuri gal too, banded last January. Things are going good! Welcome to the board. If you have any questions PM (private message) or email me and I will share my experience with you. I think you chose a GREAT doc, but everyone thinks theirs is the best.. In this case we just happen to be right!
  4. In cooking buffalo... make sure that you don't overdo it. Being very lean, it cooks quite fast and can get pretty tough if you don't show it some love. It is VERY good in chili!
  5. I grow a lot of my own produce or buy it at the local farmers market. If I am looking for something exotic, they almost always have it at a Central Market. Right now I am growing salad greens/lettuce, beets (you can eat the greens too), onions, squash, melon, peppers, peas, rhubarb, sunflowers, apples, plums, cherries, blueberries, strawberries, and numerous herbs. I use the weedy stuff too like dandelion, chickweed, and cleavers. I try and preserve what I can, when I can because seasons are so short. Is this what you were asking? Is this too extreme of an example?
  6. I had to do a urine sample the night before surgery, being in MX means everything happens QUICK. The day I arrived was testing and orientation in the hospital, I had surgery at 6am the next morning. I could drink as much water as I wanted or needed up until... was it 10? It is usually 10pm, isn't it?
  7. I actually have a fear of Elmo. and I am dead serious, although I think every mother has a slight tinge of this fear. but i have had horrid nightmares of that little red freak and can't stand to even hear his voice. LOL So we do not watch pbs. I am cracking up - out of total sympathy. I LOATHE Thomas the Train Engine. Trains shouldn't have faces, there, I said it! *shivers* As for Noggin, it sounds like a good reason to invest in cable. I have been skipping it since I don't want to support my TV habit. I figure Barney is as good a deterrent as any. Although I actually enjoy Big Big World.
  8. My little girl is a huge car fan is did very well with CARS. We go to the drive in because it just isn't worth the fighting with my child and strangers at a theater. CARS played with THE WILD which was pretty stupid. My DH and D fell asleep and I was jealous! It was MADAGASCAR with a little LION KING thrown in. I suppose they wanted to show off the graphics. I can understand the NEMO thing, but we have worn out a movie called ELMO IN GROUCHLAND. When Soren fell big time for the little red one, my husband found the DVD in the discount bin and brought it home. I can quote it at will and perform all of the songs. I mean seriously, it will barely play and freezes in the last 10 minutes! Thats OK, I can do the big finish solo... We NetFlix and love it! Less than $20 for three movies at a time. We barely watch TV anymore. Which is good because TV programming isn't fit for children. We either watch PBS or movies. LAKEHOUSE is on our wait list, as is OVER THE HEDGE. My husband watches MadTV, I heard one of the characters say that WALK THE LINE was RAY for white people, you know what? He was right! Drugs, infidelity, high profile music career...
  9. It was the last thing I wanted to hear when it happened to me, but the only answer to cankles is MORE water. We are practically swimming most of the time, and the heat makes it worse, but water is the only way to get rid of the swelling without diuretics (which do only perpetuate it in the long run). Sorry, Brenda
  10. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20086&highlight=fought I think this is the thread that discusses the legal process with Obesity Law who you should contact especially if you can prove medical necessity.
  11. I think NWWLS is an option too. Check your providers list that insurance usually gives out if you are looking to go through them. You should be able to prove medical necessity with an insulin habit like that . There are a few in Seattle and even a surgeon in Shelton (I think). I am in Bremerton, but was banded in Mexico. Feel free to contact me.
  12. Congrats on the 26 pounds! That is SUPER! That being said... you know this could take between 4-6 months to get restriction right? Many get it earlier, but you could be playing with loss, gain, loss for quite awhile. Maybe you didn't need a fill at 4 weeks, but you need one now. I hope you and your fill contact are able to get together soon. Be a nuisance... maybe? Be the squeaky wheel and it may get you on the schedule even before she makes it back into town. Much luck! Brenda
  13. I understand that! I couldn't handle the protein powder! You are braver than I am. I sucked it up and bought the slim fast low carb 4 packs. Normally I am not a chocolate lover, but it disguises the protein flavor better than vanilla or strawberry do. They come in 4 packs and I would have been lost without them. The powder made my tongue feel like I had been licking barnyard critters, blech...
  14. Sashimi girl here. Good stuff. After my last fill I gave up on rice, but have always preferred the flavors one or two at a time anyhoo.
  15. You are going to be a little messed up for the first week. It is OK. I didn't do much of the meat thing because I couldn't calculate the carbs easily. Bar, shake, Bar, Shake, Bar, Shake, Bar, Shake, Bar, Shake, Bar... <- that is about 24 carbs! It gets tiresome and you can shake it up a little, maybe two bars in a row . I had a low carb Soup once during the Kuri diet until I realized it had over 2000 mg of sodium! My ankles puffed before my eyes. Every doc is different so each of us has a specific pre-op regime. Mix & match is just not the way to go. Find other Kuri bandsters and ask them how they got through it...
  16. Hey Meow, sorry I missed the post, we posted simultaneously. Cool. How early is it there?
  17. Swamped with work at 4am? Something just seem so WRONG about that! Sorry... Ooh, the abandoned board is also like the empty school if you ever participated in an after-school activity. You couldn't help but want to run around screaming and waving your arms. Or sitting in the middle of a freakishly empty hallway, and listening to the quiet, while picking your nose or taking off your shoes...
  18. It is 12:38 here. My family is asleep. It IS nice and quiet isn't it? *crickets* We used to do Denny's to come down after a night out. Coffee and maybe a scoop of ice cream and three spoons. Whoa, cool flashback. Thanks for the novelty thread. It has been kind of dry and business-y lately. Enjoy the sunrise out there Funny, Brenda
  19. I do it too! I have given away lots of things (big things) I would otherwise have thrown out! I haven't been quick enough yet to ask for the things listed there though.
  20. The pre-op isn't fun, but it is soon just an unpleasant memory. Fruit has sugar. Just a few strawberries and half a banana will erase any progress you have made in reaching ketosis where you are using your liver's fat stores for energy instead of ingested carbs. FRUIT BAD In my pre-op diet I had to remain under 40 carbs each day. I was allowed Protein bars with 1 or 2 "net" carbs. My doc still called this Liquid Protein. If we had to cheat he suggested dry unseasoned chicken breast or drained tuna. The two things that scared me into following orders were fear of bleeding and fear of all the pain (and expense) of surgery with no band to show for it. If you liver is too big, most docs will close you up and send you home. If they try and place the band, they could damage the liver trying to move it aside and you could bleed internally. Get through it, tough it out, and put it behind you. The headache will suck for the first 2 or 3 days but it goes away with the hunger. If you are like most of us, it may be the last white-knuckle diet you ever have to do. Onward to Bandland(ia)!
  21. That's All Michael Buble did a super remake of it. Hope your wedding is incredible! Brenda
  22. Glad you are home and that you aren't having gas pains. I would think that being banded and having your gallbladder removed would be enough without having gas pains too. Aren't good husbands incredible? Take care and check in lots!
  23. Time2live, Hey there. I am a Kuri girl too. We do have an obscene number of choices down here, but if you have the Pria bars, do you have Pria select? The caramel Peanut Butter are SO tasty and softer than the chemical cardboard tasting shmoo. You only have to count net carbs or impact carbs. Sugar alcohols and Fiber don't count toward the 40/day. Slimfast also has a high Protein with 1 or 2 net carbs. This is usually labeled in a prominent area on the front of the package. I got so sick of sweet, we are discussing the 'headache from hell' on another thread, but it goes away by day three. Congratulations so much on your upcoming surgery!! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions... It is all still pretty fresh in my memory and I took good notes.
  24. I think you should add bandaids, a spanish/english dictionary, and slip-on shoes to the list. The loose cotton dress is a must! I adored mine! The lipbalm is also important, I bought some at the pharmacy because I was dry and cracking. I always pack q-tips because if you don't have them, you will need them. Weird huh? Enjoy your trip and make sure you can roll your luggage. Get someone else to lift it for you!
