When I went to the seminar before my consultation, they addressed this issue. They were providing statistics for both the band and the RNY. Their statistics were: 1. Gastric Bypass RNY: 1 in 200 people die. 2. Gastric Lap Band: 1 in 2500 people die. Now, I'm not sure if these death rates are during surgery, immediately after surgery,after lengthy complications or a combination of all... Statistics are always difficult to pin down, so take this info with a grain of salt...

lookng4me - Do you have a copy of your subscriber agreement or policy? Any exclusion should be clearly stated in there... If you don't have a copy go to your compnay's HR person or Insurance person.. They should definetly have a copy...

Linda - How long did your Surgeon tell you to wait before swimming or getting in the tub? I've seen where lots of fols have to wait six weeks.. I'm hoping I don't have to wait that long, I'm ready to dive into the pool! Congrats on your weight loss so far, you are doing great!

I have to start a two week high protein-liquids diet on Friday... It's basically Glucerna Shakes (Diabetic), low-fat yogurt, sugar-free jello and pudding, broth and sugar-free liquids. EEEK!

I knew that I had an exclusion on my policy from the beginning, but I had to at least try to get the insurance to cover it... My surgery will cost $18,000, so I felt it was worth the few months delay waiting to hear from them and appealing.. All I can say is its worth a try! Is self-pay an option? Is your insurance through a small business? I thought United was one of the better paying Insurance copmanies..
