My NUT is so sweet you can eat her like pie. But having said that, she looked at what I was eating and gave the honest truth about it. So brace yourself, sometimes the truth hurts. She also worked with me to find winning solutions for my situation. I work a very demanding job, have financial issues, and family issues including taking care of a disabled person. Ham salad heavy on the mayo? I just don't think that will fly... but I could be wrong.. maybe its okay for your body and situation. I know my Nut has me making ham roll ups for lunch. That is where I take several thin slices of ham, a slice of real cheddar cheese (not the processed kind) and roll it around shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers or other salad type veggies.... its sooooooooooo yummy. (I'm in the pre - pre op phase, not the liquid diet phase yet). I can even dip it in ranch dressing (the regular kind not the low fat kind) if I want to but here it the key, I had to let the carbs go.... even the low carb breads and wraps. She told me if I couldn't do that then she would have to find another plan for me. So a good NUT will find what works for you but you have to be willing to at least try what they suggest and report back the honest truth on what you are and are not doing so they can know what adjustments to make. I reported back my fruit servings and it was way too many so they changed it and now I'm losing again. You have to open yourself up, put the past in the past and look at this as a new journey. Be willing to at least try and if you find yourself choking or whatever document it and go back so they can adjust. But just try.

I gave up hiding in "fat clothes" in 2011 after a toxic relationship break-up. I wear bathing suits, sleeveless shirts, short dresses, whatever I want. I don't purposefully try to show off skin, but I just wear what I'm comfortable in. I figure if you don't want to see it, don't freakin look! I'm sure this trend will continue as I lose weight, lol...

Thanks everyone! Day 3 today and I feel much better. The only thing really bothering me now is the soreness. My husband has been a trooper by taking care of the kids and me without complaining one time. I also bought some gas x to take and see if that helps along with the walking

I’m the same, finding Water easy to consume. Are you using your camelback? That might be making it easier as it’s designed for sipping?
i invested in a water purifier about a year ago and my water intake tripped, the taste is so clean.
I drink ~2litres of water a day at the moment, more in the hotter months (its winter in Australia). I use a drink bottles over glasses and my camelback when walking.

We have probably all been body-shamed and it leaves scars. We have a history of being pretty mean to ourselves, too. I think we're all just going to figure this out as we go along. Sadly, even super models and actresses are constantly attacked, and they're smokin' hot. Just let her relax for an afternoon and forget to suck in her tiny tummy and some tabloid will be posting headlines about her baby bump! There are always hateful people out there and we need to learn to deny them any power over us.

it's so true about photos! I can see it the most in them. But the second I look in the mirror, I feel defeated. Which is bizarre because it was the complete opposite before. I hated taking pictures. Now I'm the selfie queen. My husband rolls his eyes.

I guess my self doubt and body issues are little birdies reminding me that I'll never look good enough to "pull off" those types of clothes. Its a constant reminder that keeps me in check. But I will say, I have allowed myself some more freedom with clothing here lately. My biggest fear is that someone is going to make a comment and take away all the confidence I've built up. We need to bump shoulders so you can rub some of your confidence onto me. I also remind myself that I'm only 4 mons post op. It takes time to see yourself differently.

I'm going to try and explain this as best as possible.....
Now that you've lost weight, do you feel like you have gained or lost any modesty? The reason I ask is because I have a friend who had RNY a few years ago. She was my inspiration for having the surgery myself. Sometimes I see her and I think, WOAH! I wouldn't ever be able to wear something like that. Or I think, she is so confident. She has loose skin, never had any plastics. Even swimsuits that have mesh sides, or dresses that are skin tight. But she rocks it completely. I always have said that I will maintain my "modesty". I never wore shorts before, so I wouldn't start now.
    Please share your opinions!

True -- all good reminders! And I had a hiatal hernia repaired while I was at it, so I should be thankful for that. I know it will come, but it's bewilderingly slow!

I had surgery 2 weeks ago and since I started weighing (about 4 days after surgery), I have lost -- wait for it -- 3 pounds. Maybe 2.5 if we're being technical. I'm supposed to start the puree stage tomorrow and I saw the nutritionist today, who suggested drinking less Water and avoiding bouillon because of the salt. Seriously.

I was sleeved yesterday, and I gained 6 pounds over night! But, I realize that it's all of the IV fluids they pumped into me overnight.
I don't know how much you weighed pr-op, but generally, the more weight you have to lose, the faster it comes off, initially. Good luck, I'll be following your progress.

You've lost on average 3.3lbs per week. This is pretty good. If you continue to loose 3 lbs you will have lost 79.2lbs in 6 months. 158.2 lbs in a year. I wouldn't concentrate on how quickly you loose, rather that you follow the program. This is meant to take 12-18 months.

I’m trying to stay away from the scale for this reason. I’d lost 14 pounds at my 2 week post op visit, then the next week the scale said I’d either not lost or have gained half a pound! Honestly, the idea that I could be going through all of this not to lose weight is tortuous. So I am only weighing myself at the doctors office.

It's been a little over 2 weeks for me and I've only lost about 10 pounds and I was a little worried as well but it's comforting to see other replies that it's sometimes just a slow process. Good luck!!!

I am also exactly 3 weeks and 3 days. Be careful with the scale, it is crazy and not your friend. 😉
I initially lost some, then gained and lost the same 2 pounds for a week then suddenly lost 5 pounds. All of this change is fluids, transitioning to solids, and my body healing.
Don't stress too much. This is different for everyone. If you follow the plan, you will lose.
Call your nutritionist if you are concerned. Maybe they can help you make adjustments if needed.

I was sleeved on the 8th and haven’t lost any weight in 2 weeks, so I definitely understand your pain. I’m teetering on the edge of absolute panic and just trying to trust that it’s part of the process. Ugh this sucks.

You will find from reading on the site that a lot of us had "food funerals" the last week or two before the pre-op diet. Even though you will still be able to eat these foods again if you want, there was something "satisfying" about saying good-bye. From other posts here, I haven't seen that those people were predisposed to failure on weight loss post-surgery. Just sort of a "grieving process" before they could move on to acceptance of a new lifestyle.
Don't sweat the past, learn from it and move on. Good luck!

Unfortunately, I agree with the majority of the posts. Did you have to do any psych exams pre surgery? If not, you should start. Honestly, I would call your surgeon and tell them all of this. If you watch videos of WLS you’ll see how important it is to shrink a normal sized liver, and you stated you have a very fatty liver. It’s better to be honest and have it rescheduled to when you’re ready than have them go in and close up because they couldn’t do it.
I also think you might be looking for a reason to cancel. Whether intentional or not. What you described is not cheating, its binging. You don’t eat a half a pizza and then are legitimately hungry for donuts 2 hours later. That’s all in your head.
I had my VSG May 10 and I’m still only able to have some soft foods. How are you going to handle a possible month or more not being to eat anything you listed in your post? You can hurt yourself if you do.
It’s sad to say, but a whole bunch of people are unsuccessful after WLS. Now, I’m not a part of the “never have this ever again!” group, but there is the basic fact that there are foods with nutritional value, and those without. Will I have a burger later on? Maybe. Right now, red meat makes me sick and I’ve accepted that I might not ever be able to eat it again. Will I ever have a donut? Maybe I’ll have a small piece of my dad gets one, but not a whole one. If my family orders a pizza, I’ll probably have some cheese since it has Protein. Or if I want one, I’ll make one with cauliflower crust.
Just be aware, you can’t eat like this. You get full. And you do get jealous seeing people around you eating things you can’t have.
The good news is that if your insurance approved you, they’ll do it again. But if I were you, I’d start seeing a psychiatrist who specializes in WLS patients NOW. Personally I saw one 5 times before surgery even though I only had to go 3 times. And that’s on top of seeing my regular psychiatrist every 45 days.
Call you doctor, tell them about your binging, ask for a referral to a psychiatrist and start again. That’s the best advice I can give you.
Sorry if this sounds mean, but it’s just what I’d do if I were in your situation. You don’t want to do something life changing (you’ll never get your old stomach back, even if you do stretch it) and at this rate, you’ve already set yourself up for failure in the future (IMO).

Pearldrop got a reaction from Laughing Bird in Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post
The only requirements I had was a 2 week Optifast and quit smoking.
The pre diet was not a rousing success, there were a few food farewells. My surgery date was 3 weeks after my first consult with the nutritionist. The surgeon had a cancellation and I was lucky enough to be there when it happened.
How that will work out in my post life... I’m hopeful. At the moment I’m having no issues on the liquid phase. I sometimes think I’m hungry, I’m not, so I distract myself for a few minutes and the moment passes.
Prior to looking into WLS I did do a lot of ‘me’ work with a therapist to understand my habits & behaviours, that’s given me some tools in addition to the WLS
Will see where I am in 6 months.
