  1. I had a vasovagal syncope episode last summer & broke my ankle on the way down! I was in the handicap stall in a bathroom at a restaurant so I’m lucky it was only my ankle. I could of hit my head on the toilet or the tile! My daughter has also had one & she has had a bypass also. But looking back I have had them before. I think it’s related to my iron & farrin being low. I do have a history of anemia. I have been working with a naturopath who has me taking RBC Support Iron Extra & Ferrofood instead of iron pills. You can buy them both on Amazon. I’m not as tired as I used to be & my blood work is looking better.
  2. I have allergies my whole life, I’m allergic to everything that grows. I have never coughed or gagged because of them just a whole lot of sneezing! I think it’s something else. Was it your PCP or you bariatric doc you talked to?
  3. I’m 4 years out. At home I still weigh my food. At dinner I eat around 1-1.5oz veggies & the rest is protein. The whole meal is 3 -3.5 oz. If I eat more then that I get too full & I’m uncomfortable for a while. When we eat out I eat a little less then 1/2 of the meal, my husband & I usually share an entry. If I’m eating out with a friend I ask if I can order something on the kid’s menu. At about 1.5 years out I started eating over 4 oz & I put back on 30 pounds! I used The Fast Metabolism Diet & I did great & I actually got to my goal weight!
  4. My husband maxes me order a glass of water when 1st give our food. It saves time by not arguing with the waiter that I don’t really need something to eat.
  5. You are so too funny! The speed & the bite sizes people take is amazing! One trick I learned in my many years of doing diet plans is to put my fork down between bites. This helps you to eat slower. I have had wait staff ask if I’m done because my fork is laying on my plate & not in my hand.
  6. I have one for medication allergies. I’m not able to add anything else because I’m out of room! I bought the bracelet from someone on Etsy years ago. They normally made bracelets & I told her what I needed. Now that I’ve lost so much weight I can slip it off!
  7. Have you tried juicing? When I juice, I use breast milk bags to freeze it. They have ounce marks on them & the are heavier then a plain Ziplock. I can make up about 9-10 bags with each juicing. I know that fresh is the best, but froze is better then canned stuff! I love carrot, cucumber & beet. When I go to a place that makes fresh juice I always get a large so that I can bring it home to freeze. You can also get unflavored protein powder & add it to the juice.
  8. Ranch Dressing? In a few months you will be able to have a salad. I always put spinach in mine when I'm at home. It is really hard to fit veggies in & raw veggies are harder for our tiny tummies to digest. I try to do at least 1 oz with my dinner, then I have 2-2.5 oz of protein. It just seems so wierd to have 2 small portions on my plate, but that's all I can do. I know I'm not getting enough veggies. I have berries with my oatmeal in the mornings & then fruit before I go to bed. Fruit is much easier for me because I can take an apple with me in the car when I'm out & about. This is why it's so important to take a multi vitamin!
  9. It felt like high school bullying because they probably were in high school!! Try to brush it off. You are doing great & you will be down in the low 200’s before you know it! But just wait until you have lost a bunch of weight! It is so hard not to tell someone that was the same size as you once were that they should have weight loss surgery! Everyone is fighting their own battle that no one else can see.
  10. I have worn a medic alert bracelet for years because of all my drug allergies. There is no room on it to put anything about my bypass. I have a silver bracelet that has a jaw clasp at both ends that I wear with it. I also have made other one with colored beads to match what I’m wearing. I bought it on Etsy. I showed the seller what I wanted & the length I needed. I have had this one for over 6 years. There are loads of them out there, just Google medic alert bracelet. PS after my stepmom who had Alzheimer’s got lost aa couldn’t remember her name or phone number I got her one with that info on it. I’m trying to post a picture but I can’t figure out how to do that.
  11. I would not have been able to do that especially if I was by myself. Most of my pain after abdominal surgery is the pain in the left shoulder from the gas used to inflate your stomach. Mine is always almost unbearable for 3 weeks after any surgery. But every one is different so no one here really has the answer for you, we can just share our own experience with you.
  12. If your hair is that long it might be a good idea to get at least some length cut off before surgery. It will be easier on your drains at least if you loose some hairs in the months after.
  13. Go a head, have your 1st drink in public & let us know how that goes. ?‍♀️
  14. No I’d say it’s just been getting progressively worse for about six months. I actually puked in the Gastrologist office last week when she was talking to me! but I did make it up to the garbage can in time. ?‍♀️
  15. Wow! That’s crazy! I had a barium swallow done last week but I don’t know the results of it. Yesterday I had am EDG. They did these because I’m nauseous all the time and they want to look at my stomach. The doctor mentioned yesterday that I might need a the one where they put that small thing through your nose and it goes down into your stomach and you have to drink when they get it down there to see if how you swallow is OK. That test was just awful! I think I’d rather have a colonoscopy?
  16. I totally forgot about the ricotta back! I was so good. It’s like lasagna but with out the noodles! https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/ Here’s a recipe for a single serving. Just Goggle Ricotta Bake. Or as we say at my house GTS (Google the s!:7)
  17. I made a roast in the crockpot for my family. I took a little bit a roast a little bit of potatoes and a little bit of carrots and blended it all up and it was pretty darn good! Cream soups are OK you can just pick out the two pieces of chicken or the three mushrooms that are in the can??‍♀️ There’s always mashed potatoes? with gravy! I got unflavored protein powder and added it to a lot of things.
  18. Sorry you’re having such a rough time. Your body has gone through a tremendous shock. It is still healing & trying to figure out what to do. I remember crying at 3 or 4 weeks out thinking “what have I done?” I was so terribly weak. Try a different brand of protein drink. Add the unflavored powder to everything. As you are able to add more foods in you probably will start to feel better. Check to see if your insurance plan has a dietitian you can speak with. Cigna provided one for me. We talked weekly the 1st 2 months & them monthly till about 8 months out. She was really helpful.
  19. I know this will not make you feel any better I am almost 4 years postop Roux n y and I buy three bottles meclizine at a time on Amazon. Some days I have to take anywhere from 2 to 8 a day. I want to a gastrologist a couple weeks ago because after this like the time I don’t trust my surgeon anymore. I had a barium swallow test earlier this week and on Wednesday I’m having an EKG. I actually threw up in the garbage can while I was talking to the new Gastrologist! Sometimes it’s just something we have to live with because of what we have done to our bodies even though I do not regret this decision one bit!
  20. Oh Gigi, I’m so sorry about your mom. That is a really hard thing to go through. Sounds like you are in stage 4 of grief. Google the stages of grief. Give yourself some extra care & seek help. Maybe your primary care doc can give you something to help you deal with everything. Medications don’t make our problems go away, they just help us to deal with them better.
  21. Hi & welcome. I sorta had a Hiatal hernia repair when I had my bypass 4 years ago. I had a fundolipacation 15 years ago to repair the hernia. That lasted about 8 years & is slowly failed. I had the bypass to repair all of that. I have lost 65-70lbs depending on the day? Good luck with your surgery.
  22. I told my family (brother & sister) because I knew they wouldn’t say anything rude to me - that’s just how we are. I told a few friends & if one of them asked about my weight loss I told them. But I told my husband & daughters that under any circumstances while I’m still alive are they to tell his dad & brother! His family has always made us feel bad about the size of all of us & I just don’t want them knowing. We saw his dad a couple weeks ago when my oldest was visiting. His girlfriend hasn’t seen me in a while. She kept calling me skinny mini & going on & on about how much weight I have lost. When she asked how I did it I just said by changing my eating habits & eating smaller portions. (That’s not a lie) I felt bad that she said anything because my older daughter is a big girl. She would love to have surgery but can’t afford it right now. I could tell that it was upsetting to her?
