  1. I’m almost 5 years out. Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat slower because my 3.5 oz of food can be gone too quickly. Sitting down (not standing up at the counter) & putting my fork down between bites helps a lot. We eat at the couch a lot (it’s just me & my husband) so I cut all my meet up before we sit down. I really have to remind myself to slow down then! When I’m done eating I will swish some water in my mouth & swallow. It helps to get the taste of the food out of my mouth & any little partials that may be hiding in my teeth out. BTW: I still weight my food when I’m at home. I don’t go over 3.5 oz. I know if I eat more then that I will be uncomfortably full & have to lay down!
  2. MOST surgeons recommend not doing anything except walking for 6 weeks.
  3. My daughter & I both had bypass. We both have GERD & that is the only way to go if you have GERD. She started at 305 & lost 150 lbs & has kept it off for 4 years. I started at 200 & have lost 70lbs & have kept it off for almost 6 years. A lot of people have the sleeve revised to a bypass because of GERD. What does your doctor recommend for you?
  4. Sometimes my food is gone from my place sooner than I anticipated. I have to remind myself to chew my food more, eat slower & enjoy the food more.
  5. You don’t need to take as much to the hospital as you think. Toothbrush, hair brush, sandals or slippers for walking the hall, chapstick, phone charger. Wear the same thing home that you wore there, you aren’t gonna be in them for very long. You really won’t feel like reading.
  6. Congratulations on all your accomplishments! Keeping the weight off can be tricky. We still have to deal with our food demons. I’m over 4 years out & I was just dreaming about one of my demons ? Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is great to keep things in perspective & share them with others that will understand.
  7. I would have told him how much I used to weigh! Impress him. Tell him your BMI used to be morbidly obese. So you will take a few points over normal any day! When I go to the doctor if mine is 1 point higher then it should be, I get sent home with a paper about weight loss & I healthy diet?
  8. Try not to be so hard on yourself, the 1st couple of months can be hard. Your body has gone through a huge trauma & that’s why you are so tired. For the puréed stage I would make my family a pot roast with potatoes, carrots, celery & onion. The works. Then I would take a little bit of each & purée it in my magic bullet with some of the juices. I would also add unflavored protein powder to the mix. It was really good. It was like I was making my own high protein baby food. Maybe you could see a therapist to help your work through your food issues. The more weight that you loose the more energy you will have! Best of luck to you!
  9. There is also Compizine You might have to use a suppository ?
  10. Hi everyone. Tomorrow I’m having a colonoscopy, the 1st one since my bypass over 4 years ago. I’m a little worried about taking all the SuTab pills with all the water that is required. The doctor’s office said that my stomach acid will breakdown the pills quickly. But I don’t really have any stomach acid. I’m afraid the pills are gonna get washed down to quickly & won’t work. Anyone else have to do the awful prep after a bypass?
  11. I’m sorry you are dealing with this. Have they given you anything for the nausea? They should give you something until you can have the GI done.
  12. You are not alone!!!! I have to not only throw it away in my kitchen garbage can, I have to take the bag out to the garage & put it into the big garbage can or I will keep eating it! People think that having surgery is the easy way out. It’s not, we all still have to face our food demons. We have worked really hard for every pound loss & trying to keep it off is hard!
  13. I hate it when that happens ?
  14. Well my surgeon is actually one of the best lung transplant Dr in the country but he did my by pass. He told me to get all my info from the internet as I did just fine! But it’s never a bad idea to get a 2nd opinion.
  15. Get a second opinion. Why are you afraid of a by pass?
  16. I was tired the 1st few weeks but that is to be expected after what my body just went through plus not eating very much those weeks too. But after my body adjusted to all of it I had more energy then I knew what to do with! Everyone is gonna be different & don’t NOT get the surgery because of what anyone says. Just make sure to follow your Drs instructions, you will find those very a lot too!
  17. At almost 5 years out I still measure my food at home. I never go over 4 oz because it makes me too full. If I venture over 3.5 for too long I start putting on weight. I find that doing 5 3 oz meals a day is best for my weight control. This is also my surgeon’s instructions.
  18. This is a great question! Are crackers enough? I always take my meds about 30 min after I eat but I don’t have to worry about eating when I take them. I would definitely call your Dr to see what they suggest & then let us know what they say!
  19. Thanks for all of the information! My surgeon said he didn’t bring up as much intestine but he didn’t call it a mini bypass.
  20. I see people on here talk about a mini bypass. What is the difference between a mini bypass & a Roux n y (bypass)?
  21. I couldn’t drink protein shakes after my bypass because they felt like they filled my tiny stomach up. I was told that they really weren’t beneficial since they were liquid they pretty much went right through the stomach anyway. I use the patch vitamins every night. I’m over 4 years out & the only thing I have had trouble with is my iron but I have a history of anemia so it’s not really from the by pass.
  22. I have been taking the Uqora line of products. They have D-mannose in them. Both my urologist & naturopath recommend that I take that. I keep having asymptomatic EColi. They won’t treat it because I have no symptoms & it is antibiotic resistant. If they do treat it I have to be in the hospital & get a pic line because I am allergic to so many antibiotics. Uqora has a Facebook group. They are very helpful, you should check it out.
  23. I had my bypass over 4 years ago. It really just depends on the day. One day I can eat candy corn & the next day it makes me sick. The only food that has given me any problem is almond milk. I have tried it 3 different times & it has made me sick. I do have problems if I eat too much. When I dump it’s throwing up or I don’t feel well for a couple hours. Just like pregnancy, everyone is different & my experience won’t be the same as anyone else’s.
  24. Are you still measuring your food when you eat so that you aren’t eating more then the recommended ounces? I’m over 4 years out & I still measure my food at home. I try to stay around 3.5oz for a meal. I do have a snack of cheese, celery and peanut butter or fruit each day a couple times a day.
  25. I love that goal! You got get it!
