  1. I have an 12” scare down the middle of my back from an infusion surgery. Itched like crazy!!! I know the docs tell you not to put anything on them but I had to do cortisone! The healing is causing the itching. If they are red & splotchy you could be allergic to the glue or tape that was used. Then you definitely do need Benadryl.
  2. So glad you are doing well. They made my daughter drink from a medicine cup every 15 min. I wasn’t a true “bariatric” so the orthopedic floor didn’t know what to do with me.
  3. If you struggle with how fast you eat, put your fork down between each bite. It really does slow you down. When we have our fork in our hand most of the meal with tend to shovel the food into our mouths. I have had waiters ask me if I was done eating because my fork was on my plate & not in my hand. Dude! Don’t you know that the international sign for being done eating is a knife with the fork wrong side up in the middle of the plate with the handles resting on the edge. This makes it easy for the wait staff to put their thumb on the silverware so that they don’t drop it. “I’m done now, you can take my plate!”
  4. I usually swish and spit water in my mouth after I eat. At 1st I found it hard to convince a waiter that I didn’t need anything to drink with my meal. My husband told me to just get water, it’s easier then telling them I don’t want anything to drink. I just feel bad about being wasteful with water.
  5. I’m over 3 1/2 years & I still weigh my food at home. I don’t go over 3.5 oz of food. I do around 2oz of protein & the rest veggies or fruit & maybe some salad.
  6. Congrats ? you are a new person!
  7. This might not be related to your surgery at all. Go see a doctor! It could be a cyst that is filling up (causing the pain) & then it releases (causing the burp). My cousin had something similar but she heard a gurgling sound & then she was out of pain.
  8. Just because you can consume so much liquid at once doesn’t mean you should! what were your docs guidelines on how much to consume at each meal?
  9. Yes. Find a hobby. I have learned to crochet from YouTube! The Dollar Tree sells cotton yarn. Then you only need a crochet hook (get what the yarn says to use) and a large eye needle. Start off making dish cloths. Very simple & they are great for cleaning!
  10. I got Covid but my bypass was over 3 years ago. I only had a massive headache for about 36 hours. You are taking that many meds now after the bypass for reflux? Some docs have you take at least an omeprazole or Prevacid after. Mine told me to take it for the rest of my life. But I had a bypass just because of acid reflux.
  11. I had a RNY at over 3 years ago at 53. What do you want to know?
  12. Did you Surgon give you anything for nausea? This is weird but try taking a teaspoon of raw oatmeal. Wash it down with water if it gets too dry in your mouth. I’m over 3yrs post op. I buy meclizine by the bottle on Amazon & take it about 4-5 times a week. I always do the oatmeal when I’m at home, but I do the meclizine if I’m out somewhere. I hate feeling nauseous!
  13. Didn’t your Surgon give you any instructions? Does your insurance have a dietitian you can speak with? Mine did & she called me weekly during the 1st month. You should only be having broths & stained cream soups the 1st week. Make sure you stay hydrated but DO NOT drink any carbonated beverages, no sweet beverages, no caffeine & no sugar.
  14. I had reduction surgery 8 years before my WLS. I didn’t have to do any PT or anything before. My doctor had to provide proof that it was needed for insurance. Tell them that I had tried PT & that I was currently seeing a pain specialist for back pain.
  15. I regained 1/2 of what I lost ? I used the Fast Metabolism Diet by Haylie Pomroy. I lost what I had gained & then hit my goal weight over 3 years after my bypass. The diet recommends eating a lot of food each day. I couldn’t do that but I did follow what foods to eat in each phase & did it for 1 month. Then I loosely followed along & kept loosing. We just got back from vacation today. We ate way too many bad things so we are gonna do it for another month starting on Monday (it’s easier to keep track of the phases if you start on a Monday). My whole body felt better & my face waits swollen each morning. There is a very good Fast Metabolism group on FB. They are always very helpful & answer questions pretty quickly. you can always send me a PM if you have any questions.
  16. Did you add any liquid? The Mayo is probably to thick to make a purée with chicken.
  17. Lots of us have regret the 1st month. Give it time, it will get better. You have just put your body through a major shock! Just take it easy & slow down your eating. Take one bite, wait 10-15 min then take another. In a couple of days shorten the time between bites. You’ll get there.
  18. Ask him if could handle a liquid diet or how he would like to be on one for an extended amount of time.
  19. Watch what you eat, eat healthy & stay away from processed foods & sugar of any kind.
  20. The Caltrate chewable tablets have been discontinued? What about the soft chewable ones? I just bought the soft ones because Walmart was out of the tablets. I know we shouldn’t use gummy’s. Regular Calcium pills are way to big to take anyway?
  21. Only acetaminophen unless you go to a doctor. I that ritzatriptan for migraines.
  22. Yes! It’s called Vasovagal Syncope https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/vasovagal-syncope/symptoms-causes/syc-20350527 I had one a month ago & passed out from extreme pain & broke my ankle! After reading about it I realized I have had them before I just didn’t pass out but my ears were ringing & I was getting tunnel vision. (My daughter has been having them too, she had a RNY when she was 23 - she passed out in a convenient store last week!) I have noticed that I get over heated easer & my blood sugar seems to drop more. I am over 3 yrs out from RNY.
  23. Sounds like you are doing good. Here’s the thing about sleep apnea, it is really hard on your heart & can lead to an earlier death. Yes the mask is hard to sleep with. Your right, you can’t catch your breath through your mouth when you have air constantly pushing through your nose. You just gotta learn to keep your mouth shut when using it. It’s even hard to talk with it on. I have slept with one since about 2005. It seriously takes 2 years to get used to. I jokingly say that I sleep with it so my husband won’t hit me. He has to get up really early in the morning & he needs a good nights sleep so I learned to sleep with it for him. Now it’s hard to sleep without it.
  24. I had RNY at 53 for medical reasons not related to obesity even through I was over weight. I lost 70 lbs in about 8 months.
  25. Oh my! What does your Surgon say? Sounds like they might need to got in & take a look.
