I had my sleeve done last year at 65. I also had my gall bladder removed and a hernia repair at the same time. I had no complications and took no narcotics after it. I will admit for a few days it felt as if I did a million sit-ups but after a couple of days all was well. I was worried that the surgeon might think I was too old but no, she never said a thing. I guess I was lucky in that I had no co-morbidities except the excess weight!
For those reading this, don't let your age make you second guess the surgery!

I'm happy to tell my story regarding my gastric sleeve surgery and being over 60. I have been heavy all of my 40+ years of marriage. I lost a significant amount once but gained it back. Since then I hadon't ballooned to my highest weight of 314 lbs. I had all the classic comorbidity symptoms of high blood pressure, sleep apnea, lower back pains, shortness of breath and prediabeetes. I looked into bariatric surgery three years before finally having it. I'm 63 and as I began doing my research, I noticed there wasn't a lot of information on people in my age range.
So here I am...7 weeks post op and I have to say, the struggle has been real! But I'm embracing this new second half of my life and I hope to be encouraging to others as well as receive encouragement myself.

Total of 76 pounds down!!!  https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/monthly_2018_03/Feels so good to not have so much pain. I am no longer pre-diabetic, released from cardiac care, no more pain meds for my back. It’s not always the easiest ride but I don’t regret being sleeved one bit. Totally new relationship with  food  that I feel I had to sort of grieve the loss but it is getting easier to deal with.

Neon Star reacted to sideeye in Are we allowed to share how psych evaluation go?
Your psych was massively inappropriate and you absolutely should write a letter. Don't spare any detail. Go ahead and attach some references like this: https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/12/7/16587316/bariatric-surgery-weight-loss-lap-band. Your psych is not giving a medical opinion, she's giving a layperson's opinion, and that's ridiculous. "Save you from being chopped up"... good lord.
And I have no bloody idea what you're meant to do in a week of Weight Watchers other than learn how to fill in your booklet, and if she's trying to get you to learn about nutrition? That's what the mandated nutritionist visits are for. Don't go back to this woman. Find another person to conduct the psych eval. You don't like her, she's cold, she's wrong, and she's apparently trying to make you a regular client by steering you towards a weight-loss program with the stated intention of you NEVER getting the surgery. That is not the intent of the eval, it's supposed to be a single visit to gauge whether you're in a good mental space to have the surgery, NOT to try to brainwash you into doing what the clinician wants.

Q Why didn't you tell me you were lactose intolerant?
    A. Because I never was before.
    Reminds me of lawyers queries.
Q Have you lived in this city your entire life?
    A Well, not yet.

Hi everyone! I am a “newbie” here, and I’m also new to the *Wonderful World of Weight-loss Surgery*. I started my process in November, my insurance requires a consecutive 6 month physician supervised diet,my appointment next week will make month 3 for me(halfway mark yay!!). This is my first time making a post, I mostly get on here to just read research, but I noticed that everyone is either post-op, or already on the liquid diet, so I’m looking for people to connect with that are currently still going through the process before approval like me...a little about myself: My name is Jaz I am 25yrs old.
    MY STATS:
    Height: 5”6
    CW: 243(give or take)
    HW: 250
    GW: 140

Never feel alone, you have us and most of us have felt what you're feeling. If hubby didn't complain of these things, either they didn't affect him the same way or men are just wired differently. Don't get me wrong I do love the critters, was even married to one of them for 44 years but they definitely are strange. You ever want to vent come here, been there ,done that ,made it through, and so will you! See-- I wax poetic at times. We're as good as talking over the back fence to neighbors. Yeah and some foods I've always liked don't agree with me anymore, think my body may be telling me something! Happens!

So lemme ask you? What are you eating.
And then the bi*chy part. Just because you CAN eat way more than you're supposed to, doesn't mean you SHOULD eat way more than you're supposed to...
You know? It is up to each one of us to follow our surgeon's rules to the letter of the law, or as closely as we understand them. Right? If it says at 1 month, you're supposed to be eating 1/4c of food 6 times a day...then make it so!
I don't have feelings of satiety right now either at only 2 weeks. None of us will. We just have to blindly try our hardest to process the information they give and follow it.
Once you start eating dense Protein first, not drinking before or after meals, etc, and kicking carbs to the very end IF you have room, you will start feeling restriction. Swearsies.
And in the meantime, 27 fu*king pounds in 1 month is incredible. Makes me want to cut a bit*h. LOL.
Deep congratulations to you on 27lbs!!!! That's amazing and outstanding. Are you overjoyed?

    I don't even know where to start with this. . . . .
Are you cheating about your appearance when you wear makeup? Lying about you height when you wear heels? Fooling the world with a push-up bra? 😉
This isn't about looks anyway, it is about health. Studies have shown that people can lose weight, but almost NO ONE maintains weight loss long term. It has to do with the way our metabolism resets after weight loss and our bodies neurohormonal responses to weight loss. The science is behind your decision. It is the best way to maintain long term weight loss.
Your boyfriend should encouraging you to be healthy no matter how you do it. Maybe he is feeling insecure.

Congrats on your progress!!! Stop bringing up your weight loss with him, if he hasn't understood the struggle at this point he may never get it. Don't look to him for validation on your progress, look to yourself (and the forum we will cheer you on). He could be nervous or afraid about all the changes that you will/are going through, not saying he isn't still a tool for saying what he said, but insecurity can make people into idiots.

My highest weight was 289, my current weight is 251, and my surgery is in 10 days. I’m feeling a little bit terrified, but finding some comfort reading different posts. I believe I’m doing the right thing, but it is a huge life changing decision, for sure! I’m 58 and want to enjoy my senior years. I lost my husband of 29-years 9 years ago to cancer. I’m ready to date again, but first want to focus on being healthy and secure with me. Let the adventure begin!!!
