Nobody was supportive when I had my surgery, but I was committed and was miserable so figured what do I have to lose. Now I am present and loving participating in my life again. Now all those who knew me before and after surgery are 100% supportive, but I don't need that validation anymore. Believe in yourself and know this is the best decision you can make for yourself. It's time to finally know you can do this, with or without support. You've got this.

I would recommend ordering sample packs in the beginning. After surgery, your tastes change and the consistency of some drinks are harder to get down. I started with premiere Protein. I loved that I can but it at costco, Target and other stores, but right after surgery it was too sweet. I ordered sample packs from several companies and got many samples from my nutritionist and surgeon. I finally settled on Unjury (you can buy this at pharmacies or on-line). I use almond milk to up the protein. You will need to find what works for you. I highly recommend you also get an unflavored protein. You can add it to drinks, Soups and oatmeals.
Best of luck to your in your journey.

I weigh in daily as well. I track body fat as well as weight. It's easy to get flustered and frustrated. You just need to remember that, only you will lose and gain like you. That everyone else is on their own path/ride. Just worry about your own!

Mistake #1, don't compare yourself to anyone else, ever. Even identical twins won't lose at the same rate even if they did everything exactly the same. Just worry about what you are doing, if you are still losing and are hitting all your metrics... then stop stressing / worrying about it.

Does sound typical once inflammation is completely gone you have more space for food
    However
Watch the type of foods you're eating more of. Carb heavy and hidden sugar foods make you hungrier for seemingly no reason at all (but there is a scientific reason) If you've reached your macro limits try sauteed low carb vegetables (mostly cruciferous) , broth or tea.
It takes some practice and balance especially when you can eat much more, I finally understand why teams push Protein first... (9 month later 😓)

Just a little over 6 months since my surgery and I'm down 125lbs and there have been several weeks that I've stalled and weight loss didn't resume for 2-3 weeks. In fact, throughout the second month after surgery I actually gained 10lbs when I started eating solids. While I certainly haven't reverted back to my old eating habits, I admit I don't follow the strict Protein to carb to fat ratio. I just simply don't eat as much.
Dumping isn't a problem as I don't get that despite indulging in limited sugar now and then. But I've read that only around 30% of bariatric patients actually experience it anyways. I can eat pretty much anything but I haven't even tried bread or Pasta and don't intend to. I've had limited rice with no problems. As long as I chew thoroughly, I've had no problems with food getting stuck. However, I find I have to be very careful with beef Jerky. It was the tough kind and I didn't chew it enough and it did get stuck and made me quite nauseous. It lasted several hours but I actually felt it pass through the pouch and the gurgling noises started and I immediately felt better. Papaya enzyme tablets help with the breakdown of any Proteins, like meat, that may get stuck.
Energy levels have risen greatly and I'm off my Type II diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol meds. I've had to adjust my CPAP settings down and I've actually slept without the CPAP without any resulting grogginess or depleted energy. I can probably go off it at anytime but I'd like to have another sleep study before I stop.
Lunchables are a perfect meal size for me and I'll eat those quite frequently as well as the Ore Ida egg cups that have some pouches and you just add the eggs and microwave them. Oddly, I only have a BM every 3-4 days.
I could go on but just wanted to post this as encouragement for others out there. When I first had my surgery I was filled with regret as I was going through all the junk food withdrawals. I don't regret it for a second now....and you won't either.

domi reacted to Creekimp13 in Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Yep, I eat them all. Love them. They're a daily part of my diet. Sometimes multiple times a day.
    OMG, they're carbs!
Yep, they are. But they're not refined, over-processed, or bad.
And you know what else they are?
Excellent sources of plant based Protein and Fiber.
A baked potato has 160 calories. By itself, it has 4g of protein. Throw some vegetarian chili on there and you're in the high teens. Awesome lunch!
Brown rice...half a cup has around 100 calories and 3g of protein. Add some bean or peas and you've got complete amino acids...tons of protein... and a crazy awesome amount of fiber.
Why is dietary fiber important? To grow good gut bugs. Your microbiota and the health of your gut (and metabolism) depend on happy little bacteria. The strains of gut bugs that live in the guts of skinny people....have a favorite food: dietary fiber. Feed your good bugs good things and they'll be good to you.
They like to eat fruit, veggies, Beans, whole wheat bread...
Whole wheat bread? I eat this A LOT:)
For instance.....A lite Thomas English wheat muffin has 5g of protein for 100 calories. This dietary powerhouse has 8g of dietary fiber! Smear that sucker with your favorite nut butter or fruit preserves, and you're in business.
One of my favorite go-to dinners these days...... is fresh homemade wheat bread with 16 veggie soup...and fruit for dessert.
I eat about four servings of fruit a day...and that's not even counting the watermelon I huddle over in the car while hissing "My Precious...." LOL:)
A banana is not "a candy bar" A banana is a wonderful healthy food. I eat lots of them. Hell, I have a Yonanas that makes them into ice cream. They're terrific.

Normal weight does not HAVE to mean giving up carbs. It means being carb smart, balancing, and making mindful choices.
More than one way to do this whole thing.
Weight loss success does not mean ONLY eating meat for the rest of your life with broccoli on the side. That's great once in a while, though!
Not trying to tell anyone they're doing it wrong.....just sayin'....there's more than one way to do it right:)

Extreme thinking, extreme dieting, extreme self denial....is not sustainable.
Work on a forever diet you can live with.
Be mindful, be accountable....but be kind to yourself.

I had that frustrated feeling on and off for the first year post op, it felt like I would never enjoy food again and I was mad. It passed and I was just saying to my husband the other day how amazing it feels to be satisfied and to learn to have enjoyment from just a bite or two. The head games for me took the longest to deal with. I promise it gets better, but man I feel you. Until it happens for you it sucks. Hang in there. Best wishes on your journey!

Certainly check all the posts using the Search function.

That said, what's your calorie intake vs output. How's your Water intake? Are you following the diet you are supposed to be or are you off doing your own thing? Are you tracking your food intakes?

Don't forget that you could be losing fat and not losing "weight" as odd as that sounds, there are so many times that I'd drop fat % but not a single oz. Just keep doing what you are supposed to, max out on the water (128oz if possible) and focus on lean meats and veggies.

Your body goes through adjustment stages. We all had stalls at some time. On month 3, I lost ZERO. Then month 4 came and I felt like my weight was falling off. Just keep following your nutritionists and surgeons advice and your weight will go down. Hang in there. I remind myself often. I did not gain it overnight, I'm not going to lose it overnight.

    Wow, GREAT JOB!!

I agree; don't let other people set your goal weight; your body is telling you you it has more to lose. Increasing your calories and Protein intake and beginning weight training will allow you to start defining your muscles. Muscle weighs more than fat, so keep that in mind. 800-1200 is the basal caloric intake, so i'd think you should offset your calories burned with calories eaten to maintain a 1,000 calorie balance (for example, you eat 1800 cal per day, burn 800 cal during exercise, and you're still at a balance of 1000 cal).

    Great job!

I had my surgery in April and I think I have finally figured this feeling out. Whenever I eat too quickly and don't shew enough I tend to get this feeling and get foamy. I found if I slow down and set my fork down between bites I do better. We need to retain ourselves to slow down. Your meal should take at least 20 - 30 minutes to eat, instead of the 5 minutes my family tends to take. Think of your stomach as a pipe. If you pour too much of anything into a pipe, it gets backed up. If you pour contents ion slowly or a little at a time, it goes down more easily. Chew, chew, chew and rest between your next bite.

My best advice is to not compare yourself to others. This is your journey. food advice...don't overbuy. Your tastebuds change after surgery. I loved premiere shakes before surgery, after surgery they were difficult to digest. I now use Unjury Protein Powder. You will find what works best for you. Many brands provide samples. I lived on samples the first few weeks. Best of luck to you. Remember we are all here for you.

@Malcy - I do notice I am hungrier on days I exercise more. I eat/drink my 1-3 oz of Protein and then drink a big Water a half hour later. My trainer said that most of the times when I think I'm hungry, my body is actually thirsty.
