Food Before and After Photos
It was a little oily. Not spicy. The smoke really came through on the chicken. It was nice, but not something I would probably order again from that place. ? I usually don’t splurge like that but not going to lie, I’ve had diet fatigue the past few days. I’ve managed to stay in my 700-800 calories but I needed to branch out from my “regular” foods.

This is why....
I want to be able to post photos of myself and my family without feeling secretly judged by my army buddies (I was active duty for 4 years) for how much weight I put on after getting out. I wanted to ride rollercoasters again. I hate the way plus size clothing looks on me. It was more a matter of finding things that covered all the lumps and bumps than finding things that I thought were beautiful and enjoyable to wear. It was getting too painful to work. I’m an ER nurse and log anywhere from 5-6 miles a day during a 12 hour shift. I HURT after every shift. I’m only 28. This was horrifying to me. I hated feeling judged by everyone everywhere I went. It’s interesting how differently people look/ treat you when you’re closer to a “normal” size. Just a few of my many reasons ??♀️

Food Before and After Photos
Didn’t feel like cooking so I ordered a smoked chicken quesadilla with carmelized onions and peppers from a local pub. Some of the salsa is missing too. I don’t touch sour cream. It’s always grossed me out. This would last another 2 meals but I’ll probably just let hubby and the kids snack on it later.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread
I hope the meds work out for you! Oddly enough, I didn’t have reflux and acid issues until I got my RNY. It’s controlled with a PPI that I’ve almost weened off of completely, but if I go too many hours without eating, the pain comes rearing it’s ugly head. ??♀️

Hardest part
It’s been theorized that PPIs cause issues with calcium absorption over the long term. I was only supposed to be on one for 90 days. It’s been 6 months and while I’m almost 100% off of it, I have days where I wake up in pain from all of the acid. It really just depends on your program I guess.

Hardest part
Proton pump inhibitor (Prilosec)
-
Hardest part
Weaning off of my ppi. It’s been a hard, painful, delicate process and one that I was not expecting during this journey. I never had to take one before surgery.

Week after surgery and I'm struggling
I remember this phase so well. I couldn’t stomach most protein drinks after surgery and still can’t drink premier protein without having instant bloating and cramps. I use a scoop of genepro unflavored powder in my crystal light/ diet tea/ coffee. Hang in there! I promise it gets better. It took me at least a month to start getting anywhere near my fluid and protein goals. Your body needs time to heal.

Constipation
I feel like I’ve had the worst constupation in the world since surgery. I’ve gone almost 2 weeks without any bm quite a few times. I really had to get serious about a bowel regimen. I use Miralax every day religiously. I personally do not skip a dose if my stool is runny because then it goes right back to rock hard. There seems to be no in between for me. I also drink 60ml of MOM if it’s been more than a day without a bm. Otherwise, I get impacted (seriously...) quickly and to the point where enemas and senna laxatives do not work. I also had to evaluate the type of Calcium I was taking. I swear my BariMelts Calcium is adding to the constipation because I removed them from my diet for a few days and the constipation lessened. I still take them, I just am much more vigilant in the Miralax and MOM. Senna tea (smooth move) is still my go to if things don’t progress like they should.

When did you go back to work?
2 weeks. I’m a nurse in a busy ER (I average 12000-15000 steps a day at work) and aside from being a little more tired than usual, I felt fine. That being said, I did NOT do any major lifting of patients for an additional week or two after that.

Chile? Hot sauce?
I'm four months out and back to eating my same level of spice but in drastically smaller amounts. I eat 3oz normally at a meal but if it's super spicy, I'm done after 1.5 to 2 oz. I couldn't handle it very well for the first 2 months though. To give an idea of how much spice I eat, think authentic jerk chicken and scotch bonnet peppers. That being said, I religiously have to take my PPI. As I look to be weaned off of it, the spice may have to be cut down (or out) too.

October 2018 Sleevers
I think I'm getting an ulcer. I finished up my PPI regimen a few weeks ago, and I had a feeling this would happen. [emoji29] I'm trying to control it with diet right now but I dont know if the pain will go away without getting back on the PPI or taking something like carafate. I was really trying to limit my ppi use.

October 2018 Sleevers
3 month surgiversary yesterday (10/8) and I'm down 40lbs since surgery day, 70lbs overall! I've been really frustrated with being in my second stall for the past 2 weeks, but I have to keep telling myself to just stick to the program. I'll admit I haven't eaten the best, but I have my head back in the game and I remind myself that this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. I started working out again, so itll be interesting to see what my body needs in terms of consumption as it adjusts. Most of my protein comes in the form of gene pro unflavored protein powder in diet tea (57 calories/ 30 grams protein)

Week 1 check in: Down 2 lbs! It's not much, but this is amazing to me as I've always pigged out Thanksgiving (and the days after...). I did much better than I thought I would and I wasn't really craving the carb heavy foods...

The Dreaded Holidays
I'm nervous but I think I'll get through it. My mom and I aren't cooking this year for the family (too expensive and dont want the mess) and I procrastinated on dinner reservations so we're trying something different and ordering a catered meal for the 7 of us. My absolute favorite is my moms sausage stuffing and I'm not having that this year so I banking on that helping me through.

How long dis it take to see your stomach go down
I'm down 50lbs and losing fat everywhere but my stomach. I was always coke bottle and my butt and thighs are disappearing before this stomach. [emoji25]I just figured that's what happens when 2 children (and csections) destroy your abdomen. Hang in there! Itll shrink! It might just take a little longer than other target areas.

Last pre op appt, payments to hospital??
I have double coverage too. They sent the bill to the first insurance like 2 weeks after the procedure and then to the 2nd insurance a week or two after that. How it worked for me was the first insurance paid everything but the deductible and then the 2nd insurance paid the deductable of the first insurance and no other costs came out of it. I'm sure they all work differently but that's just how mine processed ??♀️

?1 Year Post Op?
Amazing!! I cannot wait until I can have veggies again. I haven't had any since early September and the struggle is real!
-
October 2018 Sleevers
I had surgery 10/8 and it took me 10 days and the help of a laxative to go. It was probably a combination of lack of Water, lack of food and opioids slowing everything down. I've been taking Miralax regularly since then and things have been much better. I've always had slow bowels though and normally only go 1-2x a week. Keep hanging in there everyone! I promise it gets better. I would kill for some fresh steamed veggies though. Everything tastes too salty or too sweet for me.

Apprehensive Nurse, any other healthcare folks?
ER nurse here. I thought about all the risks, but I tried not to let them get to me. I made sure I was compliant with my post OP lovenox shots though since I'm on birth control. PEs hit fast. If anything, I think it's made certain things easier. I already know how to fix common postop ailments just from working on a surgical floor in the beginning of my career. The biggest difficulty I've had is eating and getting fluids in at work but thatll just take time I guess.
