One year today since I had my sleeve done
  2. In my support group we have a few members with both sleeve and bypass that are 5 years out plus. A particular member with a sleeve is 8 years out and has had no revision. He says he lost almost 150 pounds with the sleeve. and regained 30 pounds at one point but currently maintains at 15 from his lowest loss. He is an older gentleman and does say that age plays a factor as well as he noticed its tougher to loose weight now than a few years back. He also let us know when the weight puts back on is when he does not track his intake. When a newbie to the group asks if they will ever eat normal again he always tells them " Whats normal? Before surgery I would order a large pizza and eat it all in a sitting. Now I order a medium pizza, have a slice maybe two and save the rest for another meal. The before is not normal, the way I eat a slice now is."
  3. As a tip I would like to pass this on, I was told by my team to try new things individually early on. That way if it bothers you it'll be easier to identify. Hang in there, it will get better ?
  4. In 2 days it’ll be one year since my sleeve. This morning I was a few ounces below 200. It was a great feeling, I have not weighed that since I was 18. This past year was full of changes and looking back I just wanted to say thank you to all of you on here who post and/or reply. This site has been a great tool full of information as well as a place where people relate to what I am going through and I them. I’ve read some inspirational posts as well as those of heartache and funny ones as well. I will continue my journey, taking what I have learned from here and keep moving forward. A big thank you again to the BariatricPal family, you all rock.
  5. I was on 2 meds prior to surgery. After surgery the one was stopped and the other cut in half, and then stopped all together one month after surgery. Good luck ?
  6. @VIKING 0424 is right. Stick to the plan and you will continue loosing. 22 pounds in 6 weeks is great. keep at it ?
  7. When I said the science behind, I meant what is hypothesized of what is happening. I should have been a bit clearer on that. thank you for pointing it out
  8. yes. Below is a basic breakdown of what happens, I'll attach a link below if you want the science behind it. You see the body is a very ideal system and does not want to waste. Besides water needed for glycogen, it also does not want to waste fat cells. When you have used fat stores in the cells it thinks 'I will refill the cells again with fat once i have more, since i don't have fat now i will hold them with water' after a few weeks of more fat loss the body will be' well looks like we keep loosing fat so i should let the fat cells go' and this is when you literally loose pounds overnight. It is called the whoosh effect and happens as weight loss happens. Here is the link https://ketogenic.com/the-whoosh-effect-myth-or-reality/
  9. If you added more workouts to your routine you need to account for glycogen stores. For every part glycogen you store the body needs 3-4 parts water for it. It'll take a bit but your body will adapt.

I felt the same way prior to surgery.
  11. Try Kefir, my nutritionist swears by it, it's like yogurt. http://lifewaykefir.com/
  12. Most vegetables. As a kid I was force fed and was disgusted by them. I started eating your basic veggies during Pre-Surgery classes. After surgery I am willing to try any and all of them and quite enjoy them.

I am almost one year out of surgery. Besides the gym I wanted to try something new. I was looking at yoga or Tai Chi, both that have been recommended to me. Over the last few years I have seen videos on YouTube and social media about DDP Yoga. After watching some videos with my wife last week, we decided to purchase the program and give it a try. So far we like it and have been impressed. I’m only in the first week, but already my back feels better and can now stretch farther than day one. And DDP is entertaining and very motivating to follow. Like Diamond Dallas says 'It Ain't Your Mama's Yoga’.

  15. My Nutritionist recommends no mare than 15 grams of added sugar per day.
  16. Also these are good in a bind as well. Nice thing about these are most have good protein and shelf life, no fridge needed. I keep a few at work as well. that way I'm never out of something, Hormel COMPLEATS. These are a bit high in sodium so watch out. I can usually only eat half. I get them for about $2-3 at Walmart.
  17. If I do frozen (I keep a few at work) I use the Healthy Choice Cafe steamers, Simply steamers, and Power-Bowls. My Nutritionist likes the ones with low sodium and low added sugars. I can't even finish a bowl so the nutrition info will be less. My favorite is the Homestyle Chicken and Potatoes or Chicken Vegetable Stir-fry , I usually eat the Protein & veggies first and leave most of the starch behind. Check them out Cafe Steamers, Simply Steamers and Power-bowls.
  18. Thanks @J San. The gym and working out has been a big help to me. I also still food log everything I eat, including the 2 Hershey’s kisses I had yesterday. Glad to hear your getting back on track.
  19. It’s been 11 months since surgery. What a roller coaster it’s been.
  20. For me it was being able to keep up with the Scouts in my Son's Troop. I was always the caboose of backpacking trips and Hikes. Other times I'd stay behind at base camp because it would be to much. Now my only issue is the meal planning for camp.
  21. @jrmolina2006 is right. I took 2 1/2 weeks. I would have liked more, I was cleared for 6 weeks but my work only piles up while I'm gone. I have a desk job so no strenuous movement, but that early on you are at very low calories and by the end of the day I was fizzled out. I would suggest taking as much as you can get to rest and heal. The first week I pretty much walked and slept, with small meals in between. Good luck
  22. Correct and every Kaiser region has different requirements for Options. I have LA Area and the Options classes are 12 weeks. Of those 12 you can only miss 2 and they must be made up. These classes also have weekly exercise and food logs which also are to be turned in. If you do not complete them you will not "pass the class". Again each Kaiser region is different on their requirements. Also for weight loss during the program they will take into account Kaiser documented weight loss prior to the classes. I had lost almost 7lbs in the 2 weeks between my PCP giving the green light for Options and my first weigh in on week one.
  23. payments are what your copay is. For example I had to pay for specialist office visits each time I saw the bariatric team. Options class had no copay. For the surgery I only paid the overnight hospital stay copay. Surgery is not approved until the surgeon clears you after completing the program. My time line was as follows: Cleared by PCP for Options Bariatric program (Socal is 12 weeks) 9-1-17 Orientation for Options program 9-6-17 Start Options 9-14-17 get tests and visits with Bariatric doctors, EKG, Psych eval if needed during Options Completed Options on12/7/17 Cleared to meet with Surgeon by Options Doctor on 12/13/17 Met Surgeon on 1/8/19 scheduled surgery with surgeon staff after meeting weight loss goal from surgeon (besides the Options weight loss) Pre Op visit with surgeon 2/23/18 Surgery with overnight hospital stay 3/7/19 Followup surgery visit 3/16/19 cleared by surgeon to return to work 3/20/18 Hope that helps
