I just got my surgery date. February 12th. It hadn’t felt real till now that it’s actually happening. I know it might sound weird but now the nerves are kicking in.

SkyJade reacted to Miss Topaz in Psychiatrist Appointment
I filled out a questionnaire of about 100 questions and then spent about 45 minutes talking about diet and personal history, what research I'd done and how my husband and family felt about the surgery.

The pre surg psych evaluation is not a therapy session. It's a CYA for the surgeon/hospital/ insurance team to make sure there are no big red flags.

SkyJade reacted to Once Upon a Sleeve in Psychiatrist Appointment
Mine was short 8-10 minutes. Basically a conversation to make sure I had realistic expectations of what the surgery could and couldn’t change in my life. She also asked questions about whether I was prepared to deal with loose skin. The clearance form specifically said I had “realistic expectations”.

SkyJade reacted to kakatlady612 in Psychiatrist Appointment
My psych had 233 questions on 3 sheets of paper- some seemed repetative- some silly "are you afraid of heights?" are they afraid I'll fall off the gurney? Anyway i passed with flying colors so that's one, more of the pre- needed done. Mine was a female about 25 to 35 minutes.

Mine was also very informal, probably 20-30 mins. There were questions about weight loss history and home support, but 99% of the time was spent talking about how to set some exercise goals that were achievable.

SkyJade got a reaction from Suwade in Need to lose 20lbs before surgery
I have to lose 17 pounds and have lost 12 of it in three weeks! I make sure I get my recommend amount of Protein fat and starches in and my total calories is never above 1200 and I burn most of it off my working out. Getting a Fitbit has been my life saver getting 15000 to 20000 steps a day and it is just melting off

SkyJade reacted to Kindle in When did you go back to work after weight loss surgery?
I had surgery on a Friday and was back to work the next Thursday. I am a vet tech so my work consists of 10+ hour days on my feet, bending, squatting, lifting, etc. I was up shopping and sightseeing days 1 and 2 postop, traveled via plane and car days 3 and 4 and was grocery shopping, getting my hair cut and plowing my driveway day 5. So if I was working from home I probably could have gone back within 1-2 days.

SkyJade got a reaction from Helen of LaCroix in Looking for Kaiser patients
I have started with Kaiser in South San Francisco. I had my orientation and appointment with surgeon on Dec 15. I’m in Santa Rosa so they try to get you as many appointments in on day as possible. They will sign you up for a nutrition and lifestyle class after orientation then a psychological app and then you meet or talk with your dietitian on the phone. They have 3 great wonderful surgeons and the staff you meet with is amazing. They really want you to succeed. My surgeon said I had to lose 15 pounds then to call him and we will set a surgery date. Once you go through orientation you will get a book that is everything. Don’t be scared of the. Lifestyle “diet” I was considering backing out because of it but once I tried it I was like this easy and I can definitely do it. Everyone’s journey is so different from everything I’ve read and seen. You might have to do a sleep study and ekg depending on your weight and health conditions (if any). Ultimately it is up to your surgeon. My best advice is to ride the waves as it happens. I am someone who likes to know every in and out of every process but this one is always changing so just relax and be excited for what’s to come
