  1. I’m losing weight! Do you know how I can tell? I got ready for school this morning and I put on my every day shoes and I started walking and I realized they were loose. That’s right folks, out of all of the fat on my body I am losing weight in my FEET. What a Monday.
  2. Omg! You’re in Louisiana too? I’m not scared of the surgery. I have complete confidence in my surgeon. I’m worried my liver hasn’t shrunk even though I have lost weight on the pre op diet. I am apprehensive about the 6 weeks of liquids and mushy foods. But I’m not scared. I’m excited. And I’m ready.
  3. Most of the people here are instructed to do liquids only in the weeks leading up to their surgery, myself included. Also the hallmark of a Keto diet is that it is low carb, high fat. Fat is also something that I was instructed to minimize in my pre-op diet because the liver stores fat as well as carbs. No vegetables for me, I would kill for some steamed broccoli and sliced cucumber.
  4. Asking for a very hungry friend who is on clear liquids only for the week leading up to surgery and not me. Nosiree Bob not me.
  5. I get bad hormonal cystic acne and a few blackheads and regular pimples here and there. By day three of the pre-op liquid diet my skin was glowing from all of the bone broth- I guess that collagen really does improve your skin! The whole starving myself under medical supervision thing also caused me to have a breakthrough period, which was literally a living hell. Evwn with that I only got two small pimples that have already faded, when the norm is usually two or three big cystic pimples that hang around for weeks. So long term, I’m not sure. But so far my skin loves the liquid diet (and that’s the only part of me that does) also i I know you say you’ve tried every topical but have you tried differin? It used to be Rx only and is now OTC. It doesn’t completely clear all of my acne, but it manages it very well
  6. I started my 7 day clear liquids only diet on wednesday (week before that was full liquids) and I am STARVING. I got used to the full liquids but I don’t know if I can get used to this. I’m scatterbrained and can’t focus and I just want a piece of plain baked chicken and a cucumber. This is pure misery and I don’t know how I’m going to last until October 17
  7. I am in clear liquids only of my pre op diet. Here are My favorites so far - hint water! Watermelon and pineapple are my favorite but I haven’t had a bad one. I’ve loved hint water since before I was even thinking about getting wls. -trimino protein water in coconut/pineapple. This has 7 grams of whey protein isolate. Ice cold the flavor was decent, but I hated the apple flavored one. - a&w root beer packets. I found these at Walmart with the crystal light. I HATE that fake sugar after taste of water enhancers, and while I have never beem a big soda drinker my drink of choice was root beer when I did. This tastes EXACTLY like a root beer minus the carbonation, but still only has 10 calories in a pack (one pack per 16 oz water). I have some premier protein clear out for delivery today, so hopefully it doesn’t taste awful.
  8. I know this sounds crazy but I just started the clear liquid phase of my pre op diet and am on clear liquids until my surgery on October 17. I am so sick of liquids, and at this point I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to reach 800 calories on clear liquids only. It’s not that I’m not hungry (man I would kill for a single piece of buttered sourdough toast), but I feel bloated (hormone related) and just exhausted of these liquids to the point where I don’t even want to eat more soup broth. Has anyone else had these issues?
  9. My team told me anything over 101.5 get to the doctor because it’s a sign of dehydration.
  10. I’m bringing - my super hydrating overnight lip mask. I hate chapped lips - a sleeping shirt that goes to my knees and has a sequin cat on it - fuzzy socks with grips at the bottom - my phone, iPad, and portable charger - loose sleeping pants to wear home under my sleeping shirt -deodorant - face wipes and a moisturizer -underwear - headphones. Good idea on bringing my own pillow, I’ll add it to my list!
  11. As a 23 year old female who has never given birth to another human I just wanted to chime in and say hell yes Im scared of a catheter.
  12. Tomorrow the 7 day countdown begins! Surgery date October 17 at 1 pm.
  13. Asking about the catheter was one of the first things I did once I met my surgeon for my first consult!
  14. You got this @MargoCL ! I also really appreciate that I think you have responded to every question I’ve asked? Thanks for being willing to share your journey.
  15. That is my number one concern- obsessing about it! Sounds like I should go with my gut and stay scale free.
  16. Hi all! I am getting my sleeve a week from today and October 17 cannot get here fast enough! I was wondering about your opinions on owning a scale. I do not currently own one. I wasn’t planning on buying one, because 1) I don’t want to obsess if the numbers aren’t moving 2) will I know I’m stalling if the numbers aren’t moving? 3) I am doing this to get healthy, to learn to run, to have an exercise routine become a part of my permanent lifestyle, which is so much more than what a scale can tell me. BUT I can see the downsides- will I let myself get sloppy if I’m not holding myself accountable to that scale? Will I miss out on moments of feeling proud and excited because the numbers are going down and I’m not aware? I’m sure there are more, this is just off the top of my head. SO I would love to know your opinions on if I should or should not buy that scale!
  17. Hi @Georgetown! I’m getting my sleeve a week from today on October 17!
  18. I actually had a trimono this morning- I saw them at CVS yesterday! It’s not my favorite taste in the world but it’s definitely doable.
  19. So, I completely understand why we have to drink liquids only after surgery. And I completely understand why we need to shrink our liver and how eating very low carb and low sugar can reduce it. What I don’t understand is why it has to be liquids only before surgery? Does anyone know? Also today is day 7 of my 14 day liquid diet and I found a random scale (I don’t own one) and I’ve lost 5 pounds. I was probably going to hurt something if that scale hadn’t moved a bit after seven days of suffering.
  20. Omg this is such a good idea too. is the regular muffin tin to big (usually)? Should I buy a mini muffin tin?
  21. Hell yeah this counts! You go girl!
  22. Also @GreenTealael your part omelet part frittata concoction has inspired future me- make that, slice it up into new WLS portions, and then quick and easy breakfasts in the morning! Hopefully I am not one of the people who has trouble with eggs, but if I do I will adjust and conquer!
  23. I have so many questions and comments and you guys seem so awesome- you're all killing it! I am currently on day 7 of my 14 day pre-op liquid diet. Tomorrow I start clear liquids only and VSG is next Wednesday, October 17, at 1 pm (also super cranky that I didn't get a morning surgery time because my lips are going to be CHAPPED going all morning without water). When I first found out my program is 4 weeks of mashables (thats what they call puree/mashed/soft foods. If I can tear it up with a fork and its moist I can eat it) I was frustrated I wouldn't be able to try real food until after week 6. Now, all I am doing is fantasizing about my mashable foods and all of the options. Now for the questions and comments: Did anyone not like cottage cheese start to like it after surgery? I have always disliked cottage cheese, to the point I haven't tried it in years and now dont even know if I genuinely dislike it because the last time I tried it I was a kid. Do beans count as protein or as a vegetable or as a starch? Whoever showed a slice of turkey with a slice of cheese melted inside, you are brilliant. That is so simple and looks so good. Now I am craving chicken salad in a romaine lettuce leaf. I dont even want the sandwich bread right now. I am also craving "burrito bowls." In my head thats mashed beans, moist chicken (made in the crockpot with salsa until moist and shredded, most likely), lime juice, plain greek yogurt, and maybe some salsa verde. In my head that sounds like a good meal with good protein and low carb (knowing my 2 tablespoons at a time limit) - is my head wrong? Also this liquid diet made me get my period which I was not expecting and my teacher just told me to hang in there and now I am crying in the library (I am a law student) for reasons I don't fully understand. Hormones + liquids only is not fun.
  24. I love eating out, and that’s going to continue to be something I enjoy to do after my surgery. I know it’s all about portion and making smart choices, but I would love to know anyone’s specific order when they go out to eat! I know a portion for us is 1/4 (or less!) of the amount served- has anyone found any specific meals that reheat well?
