I like what my doctor had to say. People think that it’s an issue of self control. It’s not. After yo-yo dieting (encouraged by the media) you eventually break your system. This last time I dieted and exercised but the scale didn’t move. It was so discouraging. My hormones had changed. My metabolism had changed. This surgery helps reverse that. We have positive hormonal effects that doctors can’t explain. Almost all patients report feeling happier and healthier. I talk about the surgery all the time and let people ask questions. No one has dared tell me I took the easy way out. This surgery should be publicized more (oh wait - that would be detrimental to the huge diet industry). Just my two cents. No one has dared to tell me I took the easier way out. But if they do I’m ready to explain to them why that view is wrong.

I’ve booked 6 weeks which may be slightly excessive but work are happy for me to do it and I’d rather make sure I’m 100% before going back! I guess I could go back early if I feel it’s really taking the piss.
Don’t have a desk job, I’m a dentist so there’s a fair bit of strange positions to contort into sometimes and my patients could do without being exposed to my post WLS mood swings 😂

I had virtually no pain, gas or otherwise. The worst part for me was the first month with no solid food. I grew very sick of Protein Shakes. After that it got easier and easier. (And Protein Water was a big help for me.)

Hi, I had my RNY October 10, 2017. I guess the worst part for me was the Boost for 2 weeks after. Other than that, I have no complaints. Good luck!!!

Hey, Steve. I weighed 397 pounds when I started this journey. I lost 100 pounds during the six month insurance required pre-op diet program, and got to a 180 pound goal at 1 year and 4 Days post-op. I have been maintaining at 170-173 for months.

It is the best thing that you can do for yourself IF you are willing to put in the work. I could care less about food now. I eat to live and that’s it. I find pleasure in so many other things. (Wine being one of them, so don’t worry about that...)

Best wishes moving forward. Surgery can change your life if you want it enough.

Hello all, I'm coming up on 10 weeks post op. I started this process last May at 260 lbs. Day of surgery Dec. 14th I weighed 244 lbs. This morning 204 lbs. I feel really good. Only threw up once (can't eat chicken or hamburger yet) still drinking Premier Protein twice a day, just to make sure I get enough Protein. I eat cottage cheese with peaches, yogurt casseroles with chicken and fish. All in all, so glad I did this! Good luck to you all!

Put on your chaps and spurs, you're ready to,be in the Bariatrics Rodeo. I'm envious, my date hasn't come yet, you're gonna be all done and be a veteran before I get in the starting gate. Ah but my day will come, I'm holding on to that belief, surely nothing can somebody who wants it as bad as I do. My journey has been convouluted but I'm staying the course. Let me know how things go with you, okay?

I have one more dietician appt and then will be scheduled with surgeon. I haven't gained more weight than the start but only have lost 2 lbs. I pray this surgery will help reduce the medicine I have to take, loose weight and feel better physically and emotionally [emoji3]

    Hello,
I was wondering if you have done a little research on eating Keto and lowering blood sugars. I really like the Dr. that started Dietdoctor.com. there is great information and videos. To see the videos, you do need to purchase a subscription at 9.00 dollars a month. However, you can do a one month free trial, just put in your phone the date you started, so you can cancel before you are charged. I kept the subscription because I find the videos informative. BTW, you can get the recipes free of charge. He doesn't charge for those.

    Good luck on your journey.

PS. I had to find a Dr. that agreed to this lifestyle . You are eating whole fresh non packaged foods but still some Drs. do not agree.

I do drink the bariatric hot chocolate however. It's my sinful pleasure, but low carb. [emoji6]

    Bahahahajajajaja!!!! That's good.
For anyone who is doubting: I eat plants, a lot of it. I eat lots of Beans, kale, quinoa, just to name a few. I haven't had any issues not meeting Protein levels, 1) don't need as much as we're led to believe (western issue) 2) my work ups for the doc prove this. My system is very regular, although I haven't tested this, I'm quite sure my arteries are clear of fat and plaques, I have lots of energy, my body feels good. The only time it doesn't is if I eat processed foods and the occassional meat (holidays)-so I stay away from it for the most part--and I save tons of money too not buying those things. I lift weights and have been gaining my muscle. I jiggled my thighs yesterday for my hubby and showed him how much less jiggle there is! Satisfying!
I've been at this for almost a year now...so, it is very doable.
Hey, one more thing...before surgery and my change in lifestyle diet, I had excrutiating (sp?) heartburn. I haven't had one episode of it since. Now, that's pretty amazing...and I'm pretty sure it's eating healthy plant based foods.

Hi Ladies! I’m 53 and I had my RNY on 12-1-09. I think I lost the majority of my weight the first 6 months, then it slowed down. As I near my 9 year anniversary, I have kept off my 150+ pound weight loss and even weigh a few pounds less now. I have no more medical issues related to obesity and yes I have some saggy skin, but not horrible.
The biggest advantage for myself to being older when doing this is sticking to the rules and changing the bad habits into good ones. I used the tool to change how and what I ate daily. I still eat very little.
The biggest challenge was and still is, not getting enough Protein in. As it is very difficult to eat meat, I struggle this far out and have lost lots of muscle mass. I also quit taking my Vitamins and I do have issues with not having enough Iron and Vitamin D and other vitamins.
I had several difficulties in the beginning, but I would never change any of it!
Its nice meeting each of y’all and may y’all have much success on your journey!
