beebee17 got a reaction from Sosewsue61 in 3months post Op August
Happy thanksgiving
Since August 2017 I have learned to listen to my body, well my tummy. Rice, oatmeal, bread r a no for me it doesn't sit good , either it comes up or it is very uncomfortable . I figured out what were sliders n that's all the foods that I need to stay away from. (Cookies, crackers n chips) So far I have been eating healthy moist foods.
Im also learning not fill my plate with my eyes cuz it will take 10,000 yrs to complete it. I am scared to stretch my stomach. So far I'm down 30 lbs. starting weight was 215 down to 188lbs. It feels so good to bend climb n do ur toes.
How's it going for everyone else .

beebee17 reacted to _Mini_Me_ in How do you celebrate without food?
So I have a milestone birthday in a few days, and everyone is offering to go out and eat. Im almost 11 months post-op, I've reached my goal weight, and I have no interest in eating out. I feel like it is a waste, and to be honest my tastes have changed. My favorite food is an egg with peppers and onions. Eating out has become a little awkward for me. I don't enjoy eating out anymore and that seems to be all anyone wants to do to Celebrate things. Other than food, what do you do to celebrate?

Within the first year post op, the nerve endings in the stomach are still healing and trying to re-attach. Electrical impulses are not always able to travel to the brain. That is why there are areas of numbness in the skin near any incision when you have surgery. Same thing in the stomach.
With this numbness, it is very difficult to "feel" full or satiated. Many surgeons preach measuring food portions, but several of them don't go into detail as why. This is the primary reason. It is also to train you as to what a normal portion looks like so that it can become a habit.
The reason we burp or have pain after over eating or eating too quickly is because though symptoms are not related to sensation or pain receptors; it is because the volume of your new stomach is at capacity or over. The body will try to rectify it by either forcing it through the pylorus or back up the esophagus. Generally speaking, the lower esophageal sphincter is weaker than the pylorus, so the gas escapes quicker via burping. Of course, this is also why vomiting occurs. However, if one continues to over eat or eat too quickly, the pylorus can weaken and start allowing food into the intestines without being digested properly. This is a bad thing BTW.

beebee17 reacted to shanicebarry in Able to eat soft foods 1 week post op
Good evening,
I am posting because my recovery has been a bit odd, I plan on contacting my doctor tomorrow, because I am able to eat soft foods without any issues. My scars have been healing well, I've been active and hungry, today I was able to eat 1/2 cup of cream of wheat, 1/4 cup of yogurt and a cheese stick. I don't know if this is normal, but I technically shouldn't be this advanced until next week. I'm losing weight, but I want to make sure that nothing has gone wrong. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks!

beebee17 reacted to Arielle in Vegetarian diet anyone?
Everything KristyAB said. There is also a nut milk (cashew and almond) by Silk with 10g of Protein. eggs and dairy have a lot of protein. Grains like quinoa have a lot of protein. And of course, edamame, tofu, seitan, nut butters, Beans and hummus (from chickpeas.)

beebee17 reacted to XYZXYZXYZ1955 in Stage 2-curious finds
My stage 2 doesn't have tuna or clams and I don't think potatoes or ice cream are included at any stage for me! I'm all Protein Shakes, yogurt, and cream Soup at this stage; when I remember I can have a fudgesicle, I run to the freezer for one. But I am going out of my mind with this stuff--I want food! Real food! Yes, I know . . . eventually . . .

Not sure where you are in the process but fresh post op I had pretty bad hiccups every time I ate. I spoke to my surgeon and he said it was normal and it would stop and it did. Now I don't get hiccups any more often than prior to surgery though I do burp much more.

That is a pretty vague post. Going by what little you typed, I am going to assume that you are relatively fresh post op. Most likely in the regular food stage. Probably eating too much and/or too fast and not weighing/measuring your portions.
Trapping air from eating too rapidly causes the burps and belching. Eating too fast also means you will miss a signal saying you are full and will eat more than you should and that is when the stomach starts to spasm and the diaphragm gets involved with the hiccups. Measuring your food will help if you are a fast eater due to you stopping when the food is gone rather than eating until you think you are full.
Or I could be way off and you are talking about something entirely different.

beebee17 reacted to KateBruin in August Sleevers-How are you doing??
I haven't done the research so I could be totally wrong but I really don't think it happens unless you're severely overeating for its size. Someone else can tell me if I'm wrong and i can do research tonight when I'm bored but I just don't think it happens if you behave.

beebee17 reacted to coyote in Uncomfortable
Hi beebee17,
How far out are you from surgery? Does it hurt around your largest incision? My surgeon's office predicted 2-3 week healing time for my large incision but it stopped hurting last week around the 5-week mark. I had to splint my belly any time I stood up or got in and out of a vehicle on the passenger side. One day I woke up and it was gone. My surgeon says dull ache is normal but if you feel a burning or sharp pain or see any bulging in the area to go to the doctor.
