First real temptation
Yes! Exactly! We each have to figure things out and hack our bodies in order to develop those life-long new and healthy relationships with food, alcohol, and socialization that will keep us at our healthy goal weights for life rather than to returning to another day/night at the Obesity Ball.

So sorry about the GB stuff. ((hugs)) But FYI, you can be in a "keto" state without doing fat. I just eat low carb and low fat. Works for me. If I eat high fat stuff, I get so sick. Miserable!

Ohhhh yeah. Nope as a cancer survivor you can't do that for sure. You'll figure it out though! You're doing great!

The mental struggle is real
Very timely and well-thought post! Thanks for sharing this with us. It's 100% true! I saw this yesterday and it kinda addresses a little of what you're talking about: How to Develop Healthy Habits for Life https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/8-ways-make-healthy-habit-stick/?utm_source=mfp&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MFP_Extra_HealthyHabitsforLife_20190222&os_ehash=55@sfmc:181675394

Very upset after nutritionist appointment
So bottom line, it's our responsibility to our future health to take in the protein that is going to repair our bodies and build new cells and maintain life. Those proteins need to be easily digestible and bioavailable. They need to be complete. So whatever sources they're from: plant of animal, that's the bottom line. If you don't like it--then I highly encourage you to NOT have the surgery. Cuz it's a lifelong commitment that you make to get your daily protein in!!!! This isn't a position of "those damn meat eaters" all they talk about is protein! It's not a political conspiracy to keep the man down. It's your nutritionists opinion that you need 100g of protein/day. So you follow it, or don't. They will be running tests on you and those tests are gonna tell the truth of your status. Albumin and pre-albumin test for how much protein you are getting and have available. The lower the number the greater the association with death from all causes. Critically ill and malnourished people will have low values on these tests. And once you deplete your protein, it's very difficult to replace it--cuz it's much easier to replace it with fat. So you break down protein, you slow your metabolism, and once you DO start eating more calories (and you will--just wait and see), then you will be back crying cuz you've gained your weight back and you "just don't understand why"!?! So if you want all to be well with your life, I'd recommend you meet your protein goals. Most of us have a goal of 60-80g of protein per day, cuz we're just average peeps of average musculature. I try to get at least 60g/day.

First real temptation
Don't confide. Rock through it. You're doing a great job! If he wonders, just tell him you had a little procedure done...that way you don't usurp and upstage his big day. You're a rockstar and doing tremendously! Congrats! Remember to chew chew and chew some more. It will make puree in your mouth.

How to break a stall?
Well Tip #1, would be to only post your question on one board. We will all see it and anyone who can help, will. But by posting the same question on multiple boards means you flood the Recent Topics Bar with repeats and people get confused about which one to post to.

One Year Post RNY Surgery - FluffyChix
Hey y'all. Just wanted to share a milestone I'm very proud of and actually doubted ever being able to reach. I just had my 1 year surgeon's and RD's visit after RNY surgery. A year ago I was here (yes that tree was my happy spot, and it stayed up until St. Patrick's Day *snort*). And here I was at my most recent high, very sick weight of 287lbs (about 2 years ago). When I first saw my surgeon, I had been dieting on my own for 6 months and had lost down to 256lbs. The 256lbs was used to compute my RNY 6 month countdown. I'm the one of the left in case you were wondering--all 287 lbs. Most of you know my story so I won't bore you with it here. I was very sick and on a ton of meds for everything from high BP to asthma, cancer drugs, thyroid meds (I think about 12 in all--not including vitamins). Fast forward one year and today I'm only on 3 drugs: PPI, cancer drug, thyroid pill (which I can hopefully wean off of when I reach goal) + eleventy billion vitamins/minerals=fair trade! And here I am as of yesterday. I have a raging cold and feel terrible, still feel MILES better than I did what feels like so very long ago. I'm 56 years old and per my doc and RD I am at "goal weight" at 142lbs. I still want to lose another 7-12 lbs. I don't think I'm at risk of becoming too thin. And I'm pretty sure when all is said and done and maintenance starts, my booty will still be there. LOL. But we'll see what the next 6 months of continued weight loss efforts + exercising/toning bring to the equation. Today I focus on eating the most nutritionally dense, calorically light (hello, cuz I still want to lose) meals that I can find, with time off for poor choices and bad behavior. I'd say I'm about 95% on plan and 5% forkin' off on average and it fits my life. I'm asked all the time if I have any regrets or if I'm "sad I can't still have such-and-such." But what people don't get is that it isn't about what I can't eat, it's about choosing to not eat in a way that won me a lifetime invitation to the Obesity Ball. I can still eat anything and everything I want and in sufficient quantities to be a danger to myself and small rodents. So from that perspective, nothing changed from pre to post-surgery. I have zero. Repeat. Zero. Regrets. "No REGERTS" hehe (other than not doing this years ago). I've had very very minor no complications, and my life is infinitely improved--even with the baggy saggy skin, elephant testicals on my upper thighs, and hairless Sue on my head. Yes there is hair loss of significant proportions. That's my "pagent hair" I'm wearing. I try to walk 1 hour per day 6-7 days per week and am trying very hard to start toning and building muscle and improving my balance and strength. None of those are my strong suits--I'm not a big exercise fan, but I'm learning to love it and learning new tools/skills to help me maintain this loss and lifestyle for the long term. I hope this helps lift someone up who might be knee deep in the suck today, and I offer this post as proof that tomorrow DOES come. And it IS a better tomorrow. Jeremiah 29:11 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. If a weak, reckless, broken down old crone like me can do this, how much better will you be able to? I want to thank every VET and Sophomore and person who has helped me along on this journey from fat to fit to fabulous!!! Thank you for your time, patience and answering my millions and billions of questions over this time!!!! And thanks to Alex and his team for building such an incredible site to get and give support where we can also find those things we need to help make our journey easier!!! TY Bariatric Pal. It's been a great year and I'm looking forward to Year 2.

Starting to gain the weight back help
Hi Tammy and welcome! So sorry about your struggles!! ((hugs)) How scary! Give us some info about yourself! How far post op, what stage you're in, what you're eating, how much, what your doctor recommends. If it was me, I'd make sure to involve not only my cardiologist but also my surgeon and RD with formulating this plan and also a plan for PT and then daily movement and exercises! You need all of those things and it's way more complicated than I can probably tell you. I know you will get it figured out!! We're here to help you!!

High Protein Homemade shakes? Help
What is your BMI now? Mine was 49.3 BMI. I could have WLS with anything >BMI 40 for no other reason. At 35-39BMI I needed 1 other co-morbidity. I had a crapton of them. LOL. Again, betting you are over 300lbs, let's pretend you are 350lbs and are 6'0" even. Your BMI is calculated around 47.5BMI. You have AMPLE room to lose weight. And not trying to do that with a doctor and monthly recorded weight loss attempts is cray and rationalization IMHO.

High Protein Homemade shakes? Help
Wait. How fat are you? I think you said you were over 300-400lbs? (At this weight--you are right now a ticking time bomb without ever putting that blender full of sugar and carbs and inflammation down your piehole!) Facts are...you could bust your ass this year and lose 50-75lbs and be in BETTER shape to qualify for surgery. Just ask your surgeon's office about that. I have lost 80lbs in the first year post op. BUT, I lost 65lbs in the year preceding my RNY surgery by getting rid of addictive foods behaviors, changing how I ate/what I ate/how much I ate. And through it all, I STILL had co-morbidities out the ass that allowed me to have my surgery! AND was still >35BMI!!! Start visiting your PCP monthly for a weight loss program! Never miss a month. Go in each month and get your weight documented and document your commitment to change your lifestyle and diet. Show food logs and exercise logs. Above all else, they MUST weigh you monthly and make monthly doctor's notes about your weight loss efforts and how the losses are going--even in months where you show a gain, or no loss. It needs to show uninterrupted attempts every month for as long as it takes for you to get surgery. Don't waste an entire year!

High Protein Homemade shakes? Help
Your time is now. Today. Not some point 1 year in the future. The more work you can do to develop new habits and review and understand what goes into prompting you to make the choices you make today are going to impact the long term effects of your surgery (not to mention the safety of having your surgery). If you mistakenly believe you can sit back and enjoy this year as a free ride of food then let the surgery do the "hard work", you're sadly mistaken.
