you typically lose the most the first month because some of it is Water weight. That said, I also lost 16 lbs the first month. After that, it dropped to 10-12 lbs until about month 6 or 7, then it dropped even further. I know you read about people losing 30 lbs the first month, but those people are the exception. I've been hanging around these boards a long time, and my perception is that most people lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month, so you're absolutely normal!
btw - it adds up over time. I ended up losing over 200 lbs, so....

MB reacted to makemyownluck in Nail Question After RNY: Anyone know what this means?
After my sleeve, my nails did this too. It was about 3 months out when it happened... and then about 3 months after that (6 mo post op) my hair started to thin out as well. I started taking a higher dose of Biotin and idk if that helped or if it was just a short term issue, but another few months after that, my hair and nails were back to normal.
I still get splitting nails about twice a year, usually in the beginning of winter and in the beginning of summer. I just cut them down and leave them alone to grow back and they are okay.

I am just about 3 weeks post op gastric bypass and looking for more ideas of pureed foods. I am so tired of eggs, refried Beans and yogurt. I'm going to try the ricotta bake and smoothies tomorrow, but still need a few ideas to keep it interesting. Can't tolerate tofu or fat free gravy and not allowed to have meat yet. Thanks in advance

i agree with Shereen. and yes i'm 5 weeks out and if i walk/exercise too much, it really takes it out of you.
that seems like an awful lot of walking for a fresh post-op patient. especially in the middle of the summer. i would back that WAY down. to like 20 minutes. if you do that everyday and you feel good, then increase to 30, and so forth.
i personally think an hour of walking a day, in the summer, that new a post-op, is insane. i can't believe your doctor said that. esp for an obese person who's probably not used to exercise and is recovering from surgery.
wow this is making me mad now. i better leave.

Magnesium should help. Capsules not tablets. Or liquid like nature calm powder - mix and wait til it's not so fizzy, we aren't supposed to drink fizzy stuff

MB reacted to Mersh in I feel normal and it scares me.
So I'm on day 11 of my VSG post op and I feel like I can eat anything. But I know I shouldn't. I also feel like I can do almost anything I did pre-op. But I know I shouldn't.
About me. I'm 33, male. Muscular but crazy overweight. I'm stubborn as a mule and am a farm boy. Since my Max Capacity weight during pre-op I'm already down 45lbs. Which is awesome, but I have a long way to go before I'll start celebrating too much.
I am so bored of my liquid diet that today I've even had a scrambled egg and a piece of deli turkey. No issue. I've also started eating apple sauce. No issue. I'm crushing Protein Shakes no problem and hitting of my liquid goals daily most of the time.
I'm scared I'm being an idiot and not allowing my stomach to heal, but I can't stare at another mug of chicken broth and I'm jello'd out from crushing insane amounts of that stuff.
My fear is that I'm rushing back into things. I took my dog out for a hour long walk in the hills and felt great. And I haven't had any pain what so ever since I got home from the hospital... my stab wounds (incisions) are healing up nicely even though I scratched one pretty good the other day...
Help with any advice and encouragement.
Also, is there any guys on these forums?
    Thanks.

I hope to have the gastric bypass soon (awaiting insurance approval) and some of my friends and family have suggested I use a waist trainer after the surgery to help with sagging skin. Has anyone used a waist trainer or something similar, like a abdomen binder or compression garment after surgery?

After surgery, individuals loose weight at different rates. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So adhere to the program guidelines.
Since you are at 3 months, there is one thing you might try if you haven't already.
Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on Protein Shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op.
This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me.

My energy level has stayed high, I take juice plus for Vitamins. B12 spray, that's all beside the food I eat for Vitamin. Google Bone Broth, it also is the most natural Protein and good nutrition. I love it and easy to make. I also got into kombucha for Probiotics. Love the taste.

Well, if you go by the actual description of this website:
Not a support site, but rather a site for discussion. Or if you prefer the official app description:
Again, not merely for support. So why am I here? For information. Whether it be gathering or disseminating.
Now, as a Type 2 diabetic myself and someone who has insulin dependent family members who I have seen with glucose levels in the 600's, the very first question any doctor will ask is, "What are you eating?" It doesn't have to be because of sweets; simple cabs like bread, potatoes, and fruit can drive glucose levels into dangerous territory.
Just because I don't come across all warm and fluffy doesn't mean I am being a jerk nor does it make me unsupportive. But you talking to someone that you have no direct interaction with in the way that you did makes you appear self righteous. If you don't like my posts, put me on ignore. It makes no difference to me.

    Hi Everyone,

I am wondering has anyone experienced early stalling? I am 11 days post my gastric bypass and weighed 242 and daily the numbers were going down but I been at 231 for 5 days now. Is this to be expected so early? I barely eat a "decent meal" and always drinking liquids throughout the day so I know I am not overeating. My energy level is still very low but I am moving around through out the day as well. Can someone please shed some light on this? Also is there anyone who can recommended a laxative other than Miralax or Smooth Move? Neither works for me. Please help me and thank you in advance. I appreciate your feedback.

Hi all over 60ers. I finally had my bypass surgery on the 20th. As a matter of fact, I'm just now getting d/fed from the hospital. Just a quick note about my experience so far. You will have some pain, but bearable . The one thing that no one through your entire pre-op training tells you is that you will have a lot of blood in your stool which is very liquidy. Please don't be alarmed like I was. I know this isn't the best topic to discuss, but I wish someone would have told me. The first 4 times I went there was what I thought was a lot of blood. It finally stopped. You will probably feel bloated . Got to go now . I think I'm getting sprung from the hospital. I will follow up with my progress.
