Mynewlife4me reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Biggest post op regret and best advice during honeymoon period
The only regret I have from my honeymoon period is I started dating at 3 months which was a waste of time but it did not have a negative impact on my WL. It was just a bad choice overall. I wish I had started with DEXA scans and RMR testing earlier but honestly when I was in the 300s I would not have fit on the table. I barely fit when I started in the 200s. I feel like I knocked the food and tracking part out because it helped me change my relationship with food and it made post-op life easy mode.
As a super morbidly obese person, I did not need to add any lean mass. I already had more lean mass than most people (still do ) so my only concern was losing fat while keeping my lean mass, which I did by exceeding my Dr Protein goals and keeping my protein at 90 or above from day 2. I am in the 120-130 grams of protein a day range right now. Working with a sports medicine team for my nutrition and fitness I think had yielded better results for me than following a WLS post-op plan, but that is a personal choice.
Oh I forgot at like 5 months I slowed my weight loss down on purpose because the month before I had lost like 20 pounds really fast, it happened all in like 10 days and it scared the hell out of me. That was a mistake, I should have just kept going the same way I was but, it was a lesson I needed to learn.
I don't think there is any losing too fast, it is better to let your body peel the weight off at the pace it wants. Your body is more in control than you are. It will take a break when it needs to, you don't have to build one.

Stalls are a prevalent part of this journey. My periods in a stall post-op outnumber my periods in an active loss. That is just part of it. I know it is frustrating, but the sooner you can accept that, the better off you'll be. Just stick to your plan every single day, and you will lose weight.

You are doing nothing wrong. I have gone 3 weeks without losing and then 8 lbs will fall off in 3 days. The body is readjusting itself and what you are experiencing probably happens to 80-90% of people. Also, starting at a lower weight (I know, you never thought 249 would be considered a low weight) the body seems to need more time to move everything around. Follow your plan and it WILL come off.

Hi all, I was sleeved on June 9. My doctor requires Days 1-3 Clear Liquids and Days 4-14 full liquids. I'm close to my 64 oz liquid goals and about 40g of Protein right now. In a day I usually have Protein Shake, several cups of Bone Broth (throughout the day), Vitamin Water zero, Protein2o clear Protein Drink, and water. My list of approved stuff includes cream Soups, sf pudding, sf Jello, and drinkable consistency yogurts. There are no restrictions listed as far as sugar content, carbs, sodium, fat, calories, etc. I guess in my mind I'm still thinking that way. My husband bought me some low fat yogurt smoothies at Trader Joe's which have 24g of sugar! I think I'm just wondering what's most important to pay attention to? I know I was told my protein shake should have less than 2g of sugar... does that go for everything else? Is low fat super important? I'm going to call my NUT in the morning but just wondering if anyone has any advice. TIA .

I was full liquids on week two which included, Protein Shakes, yogurt, Jello, Soup broth, basically anything of a liquid consistency. I ate three times a day plus 2 Snacks. Keep in mind you should also still be sipping all day to get your 64oz of fluids in. For me everything consumed counted towards the 64oz since it was all liquids. I hope this helps.

I wasn't allowed to have anything day of. I had to do a swallow and X-Ray leak test before they even let me have an ice chip! It was hard at first but I was only allowed 2 oz at a time every 2 hrs then increased to 2 oz very 15 mins before I could go home it was a challenge! Good luck to all

    Hello all!
I'm a little concerned about my progress right now. It's not lack of progress that has me slightly worried, it's how quick the progress is. I want to make sure that something isn't actually wrong. I feel generally ok, a little woozy sometimes, but that's about it.
I had my surgery May 26th. My preop was only one day, but i lost 4 lbs in that day. O_O.
Ever since, I have been losing 2 to 3 lbs A DAY. I am down to 239.2 this morning. Losing 16 lbs in 5 days sounds a little crazy. I am getting in about 70-80g of Protein a day with about 33 to 45 oz of liquid. I was honestly expecting to lose about 2-3 lbs a week with this surgery. Did this happen to anyone else? I am even having regular bowel movements with minimal discomfort (had one on Sunday, Monday and yesterday). I guess I should note too, that I don't walk that much. I have short spurts of energy were i walk for about 15 minutes straight, and the rest of the day is just moving around the house.

You haven't done anything wrong. Weight loss surgery is a diet just like any other- most people regain their weight if they don't stop dieting and learn another way to eat. Our bodies don't like to be starved and they fight back tooth and nail to keep weight on when they are starved of calories.

There is no amount of willpower and motivation you will ever have that will fight your biology without also ruining your life. It's not your fault you regained weight. It has nothing to do with willpower.

Please do yourself a huge favor. Stop dieting. Embrace intuitive eating. It can and will change your life. Your weight will come back down again and you will be a thousand times happier and healthier.

INTUITIVE EATING- google it. good luck. Read my story if you like too.

I didn't weigh myself for the first week. Now that I am a few months out I notice a pattern, stall for 2-3 weeks, then a decent loss. Don't stress, it will come off.

How many weeks/months were you when you started thriving again?

I am 5 Days Post op and my surgeon doesn't want me to take any supplements until I'm 2 weeks Post op and I see her.

Although I can have Protein shakes...
I don't know if doing it now is a good idea.

Make sure to be on them to ensure your painkillers are given at regular intervals, and that the barium/leak tests are done adequately and timely. Get on your feet and walk as soon as you can, and push them when they get the thumbs up to test out a clear or full fluids diet to make sure you're set to go home.

I was just sleeved on May 15th in Mexico. I stayed 2 nights in the hospital and 2 additional nights at a nearby hotel. I did really well and although I think I could have gone home after one night I think having an extra day of IV fluids was helpful. I was walking 2 miles on day 5 post op and I have had no problems getting my fluids in.
Honestly, this is major surgery and I just don't think I would have been comfortable going home the same day.

Sounds similar to my experience. Checked in around 7:30 AM, the procedure was at 9:30AM, I woke up around 11:30AM, fell asleep and woke up a few times, did lots of walking, got my fluids in, and checked out around 6 PM

I am happiest to see my 6'2" 320 lb. husband go to 220, from 3X to XL. He loves smoked salmon and beef Jerky (jerky was his dinner last night). If we never lose another pound this ride has been incredible.

    Congrats!! You've got this!

Warning: you'll feel like utter crap when you wake up. Just breathe a lot doing slow and deep breaths, let those breaths open your chest and lungs fully, hold your breath for a few second and exhale. Do this as much as you can, you will feel so so much better for it, I promise. It hurts at first but trust me, it's lasting affects are fantastic.

    - and WALK! It was confirmed today by nurses and other staff here that the Gas-X stripes DO NOT WORK for eliminating the sort of gas they pump into your body. So pass it up, no matter what anyone tells you about the gas strips, it's false. The Doctor, his PA, NA and Nurses said walking is the only thing that will work.

Bring throat spray please - and chapstick! You'll be glad you did.

After about 13 hours you'll feel better and please, don't be afraid to ask for the pain killer. You'll want it.

I'm wishing you the absolute best on your journey, you're a courageous soul to do this, and I hope for you a wonderful future in store for yourself

    My go to snacks:
My current favorite snack is toasted walnuts and pecans. I put the raw nuts in a pan, spray with Pam, add some Stevia and some salt, mix, and cook them on median heat until they start to brown. Let them cool and store them in the fridge. I use them on yogurt or just by themselves as Snacks.
My other go-to snacks: Deli meats with a slice of cheese, cold, leftover chicken, or a little salad with avocado and shrimp.
