I'm new, too! Found this site right before surgery, but haven't used it as much as I have my fb support groups.

If it were me, I'd figure out how to self pay and get it done in Mexico. Seems like they're becoming the world's expert and is much more cost effective than in the US. Also, there are a lot of good information on here and out there about options in Mexico.
I couldn't lose weight without the surgery so I saved until I had enough to get started, which is helping me be EXTRA focused on the success as it literally costs me every month.
    I wish you luck.
PS. I have severe sleep apnea and have used my cpap every night for over 3 years, can't imagine not having it but it took 6 months to get used to it and a year before I used it every night. Traveling with it sucks though.

This is really interesting. I'm three weeks away from my bypass and was chatting to my nutritionist about my expectations and hopes for weight loss. In all honesty I couldn't say.
A number feels terribly arbitrary and not very helpful. A big motivation for me is to be able to play and run about more with my five year old as he grows up. My weight gain really curtailed my physical activity and now I'm so keen to live more of my life outdoors that, for me, success will feel like being able to cycle and climb hills without wheezing and sweating (actually walking up stairs without wheezing and sweating would be a good start). Beyond that my self image is important, but I have no idea what weight corresponds to when I look great again.
Watching the numbers is clearly invaluable in terms of what you eat and how much exercise you do - but when you use numbers as your sole measure of success I imagine there's a danger you disappoint yourself even when your achievements are immense.

    - See innocent news article or flyer ad
    - Has female with normal looking womens clothes on
    - Get boner
    - Have to stop what I'm doing and go fap or else get a huge boner in a public space

But the fact remains that you misquoted me. I never said check your mental stability. (Although I'm rethinking that now)

I just went and re read that thread. Nobody said that you needed to check your mental stability. I said you have to do the mental work. You were having buyers remorse and my response was to try and help you. I felt bad you were down and told you it would get better when you felt physically better.

We are not always going to hear what we want to hear. No wonder the vets end up leaving.

I am also no expert as I'm only a week and a half out of surgery, but I have researched like crazy! I have this sickness where I need to know everything I can about anything I can especially medically related ha ha. I hear ya! I asked about when it gets better since I was having buyers remorse while being stuck in the hospital and I was told I need to check my mental stability. Feel free to message me as well, I haven't been able to connect with anyone about WLS.

Did they do an ultrasound on it? Also that's strange they didn't just remove it while doing your surgery as most surgeons do because it becomes such a problem and quickly. Also you said you felt this before was it after something that had butter in it? Fats even in small amounts can trigger a gall bladder attack. I am no doctor and can only go by my own experience, but I had been having GallBladder attacks for years and not a single doctor could figure out what was happening, I was hospitalized because of it and no one ever thought to do an ultrasound on it to spite my symptoms. No one bothered to look until I had the worst attack I had ever had while I was pregnant. I was eating peanuts! GallBladder things can also go hand in hand with pregnancy and that's the only reason they bothered to ultrasound my GallBladder. Needless to say peanuts sent me over the edge and then I had to be extremely careful with what I ate. I had to have it emergently removed less than a month after I gave birth. All I'm saying is that it could have been dumping but since you had felt it before I could be a GallBladder attack and I would have it checked just to rule it out.

If anyone knows of another app, I too would switch! I asked a question recently about having a few sips of wine at my wedding in a month (I'd be 4 months post op) and you would have thought I asked about politics! I got a few people making polite suggestions but others just ripped into me about how stupid I am for even asking this!!

I came here for support and answers to questions I am curious about but aren't worthy of a call to the doctor and would like to help others the same way!! Feel free to message me if you'd like...I'm not a genius but I'd like to think my experience can help others [emoji846][emoji846]

I literally got on the app today to ask if anyone knows of any other apps or groups out there as this one is not very supportive. I have asked questions with zero responses or the responses I had been give weren't helpful at all and filled with judgement. Good to know I'm not the only one that has noticed that.

I have seen some people being a bit of a Debbie Downer, but let's try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes messages don't come across the right way online. I try to focus on the positives, that's what this journey is about after all. On that note, if anyone has any questions or just the need to talk to anyone, feel free to message me privately. We are all in this together after all
And yes, I 100% agree with how much the pureed food phase sucks. All I have in my menu right now is ricotta, applesauce and yogurt. I am tired!! Luckily I can switch to phase 2 on Thursday and switch tonsoft foods like baked fish, and eggs, and chicken breast... I cannot wait! But I confess, after yesterday's episode I am so scared to switch!

I have to agree with you, I didn't post until just recently bc if felt like people were very judgements when others are just being honest and/or looking for advice/support. I believe that everyone will have a different journey and a different experience, we can make great supports for each other but no one should be making anyone feel small or degraded.

Feel proud of yourself for making a difference in your own life and 17lbs it's a great accomplishment!! The puréed food stage was very hard for me as well...I lived off Soup, refried Beans, and protein drinks!!

I'm feeling ok. I'm super frustrated with the puréed stage right now... I'm tired of the Protein Drinks, and nothing else seems remotely appetizing. I'm down 17 lbs. How are you doing?

I've been reading post on this app for a week now, and a ton of people seem so damning. Honestly, I get a sense of judgement from the former RNY patients, so I refuse to post any questions.

That is not dumping. My doctor says that is sweats, nausea, diarrhea, flu symptoms, heart racing..

I have had what you had (twice) after eating some chicken breast and it hurts so bad! I'm waiting a while to try it again.

These were just plain grits. Only thing added was 1tsp of butter and a little bit of salt, all of which was approved by my nutritionist for the first two weeks post-op. Who knows... Maybe my body just doesn't agree with them anymore. Lesson learned the hard way.

There really is no reason to eat grits anymore anyways. Well, besides that they are tasty and a comfort food. Strange that it was grits that did it to you, I was assuming something sweeter or high in fats. Were these plain or cheese grits?

I want to clarify. I am not telling anyone I am HAVING the surgery, I do not know how I will be after the surgery. Also although many people here have support from friends and family, many of us have not had that support. I am here in this forum because my two sisters whom I am very close to, do not know. When I tried to open the subject they completely shut me down. Just as my neighbor who I am close to. When I couldn't tell the people I am closest to, how could I tell anyone else? Will things change once I have the surgery, I don't know. I do know that both my sisters live out of yown. We are planning a trip for Christmas. I will deal with it when I see them. Will they still poo poo it? I don't know, maybr. My nieces mother told her. You could have just pushed back ftom the table instead of mutilating yourself. When there is no support, you can't know how cruel it is to hear some of the things that are said.
I don't want any negativity while I am going through this. Perhaps after the first 25lbs...I just might be like. Yeah, I had wls, what's it to you? I have no intention of making people think I did this without surgery. I just don't want to tell them I am doing it.
God bless all of you who have support. You can't imagine how hard it is, when you don't have it.

I'm a very private person. I told one or two people including my husband. My mom told my susters and father. She assumed my sisters knew. I'm not ashamed of the surgery, I just don't want to hear what others have to say. Mainly I don't want to have to hurt someone'sfeelings. I have 4 assistants that I work closely with. I didn't tell them because it wasn't their business. Again, I don'twant anyone's opinion. I just told them I'm trying to live a healthier life.

Not everyone cares to share their private medical information with co-workers. Many people are more introverted and just feel no reason to talk about their personal matters. There is not one right or wrong way. Just because we don't share doesn't mean we are going to slip up. I don't need my co-workers checking up on my weight loss. I have the support of my family.

Do you share all your other medical decisions with them?
This kind of stuff shouldn't even be discussed in the workplace anyway.
