Holy crap...all the judgement. If only I got actually money for everyone's 2 cents!
Thanks for sharing! It's a very personal choice what you decide to tell. I work with 2 people who've had bariatric surgery and they told everyone - one sleeve one bypass...And I noticed one of them grow tired of telling everyone how much they had lost and it was a constant discussion and daily questioning from colleagues. The other one 4 years later is still going on about her surgery. People will think you've done it the easy way by having surgery. I hear that all the time from from a friend ...hmm I'm the one getting up at 530 am to work out yeah that's the easy way! I wish I had told less people and kept it very small. Really only my husband and bff needed to know. I tell people I'm eating less and working out...all true. I do tell people who are seriously obese that I've had surgery and if they have any questions and I've had a couple of people follow up with me.

Is Quinoa okay after RNY?
No I'm 2 years post op and it hurts my stomach...and I can eat most things. But quinoa and corn chips not nice! At 5 months u could probably have a little rice or couscous. Potatoes are good and easy to digest.

Questions about postop for pending 7/13 RNY Gastric Bypass
Hopefully the dr provides lots of reading information on post op diet...I got sent home with a binder which I still reference. I didn't have much help but my husband stayed home the first day I was home from hospital. But I didn't need him to do anything for me. I wasn't on pain killers..just took things slowly and sipped my protein shakes and went for short walks...There are some good books you can grab from library on life after surgery. It can be a bit overwhelming at beginning figuring out what you can eat and healing. It takes about 4 weeks to start feeling yourself again.

Holy crap...all the judgement. If only I got actually money for everyone's 2 cents!
The judgment is out there! You're doing this for your health if dieting worked you'd be at your goal so don't let other people's issues get you down. It's a big decision but you'll be fine and it's bs that you won't be able to eat normally with your family when you have kids. I'm 2 years post op and I eat normally. Make sure you take your vitamins and protein shakes! It becomes part of your life. As for the stupid comments I know they are frustrating. I told very few people and still got judged...especially when you lose your excess weight and they are still overweight. You don't owe anyone an explanation for your surgery. If you were getting your gallbladder removed you wouldn't need people's approval. It's no ones business and I'm 2 years post op and I'm starting to find people are forgetting I had the surgery cause I eat healthy but normally and exercise...normal healthy lifestyle.

Hair Loss After Bariatric Surgery
I had slight hair loss and I normally have fine hair. I drank protein shakes pre and post surgery and took my vitamins along with a chewable for hair skin and nails. From what I've heard everyone loses some hair but if you keep with a good quality protein shake it should be minimal. No one could tell I lost any hair but I noticed a slight thinning at the temples around 6 months.

Gastric bypass or sleeve? How did you choose? Anyone 5 years out of surgery?
Dumping only happens if eating foods too high in sugar...if you watch your diet you might not dump at all. Having said that sometimes foods are higher in sugar are not apparent especially at the early stages...I dumped once from cocktail sauce with shrimp - the sauce is high in sugar. Also sucralose can cause dumping but going on 2 years now and I don't dump even when eating foods high in sugar and sucralose. I just do

Friends not so friendly?
It can be tough especially because we don't see ourselves as skinny for a long time if ever. I just giggle and say thanks when people say I'm a skinny b***h...but sometimes it makes me a little blue especially when I feel there is anger behind the comment. Not much you can do just remember it's their issue. Honestly losing weight has brought up some issues with family members who are annoyed with me losing weight but I just remember I don't have to please them....this is my life and they have the power to make their own decisions.

Vitamins
My surgeon provided a list of vitamins that are easily available at grocery store or pharmacy - didn't have to be bariatric brands. For the first 3 months vitamins must be liquid or chewable.
