Sherrie Scharbrough got a reaction from Aly_Dragon in Duodenal switch confers better metabolic improvement in type 2 diabetes
I was so insulin resistant and I couldn't get my blood sugar down. My PCP said he was almost to the point that he felt like he would just throw up his hands!! I was on 100 units of Levermire insulin 2 times a day plus 500 mg of Metformin. I had my RNY and I am off all diabetes meds!! Right after I had my surgery I was off of them. I used to take 12 different medications now I take 4 plus my Vitamins. I was told that the RNY has a high results in diabetic's getting off their meds or highly reduced meds. I had a high reading 2 months ago on my bloodwork but I know exactly why I had let some not so good for me carbs. I started taking my BS's again and it hasn't got but 1 bad result. That one was the first day I started keeping track of them. I have had great results with my RNY and I love that I have got my life back!! Good Luck in your journey.

There is a great site called RULE ME and it helps tyou figure out what you need to be successful. They have plenty of recipes too. My hubby tried the Keto diet thru a person who sets up everything and sends you recipes for your prep work. But he found he didn't care for most of the things she had sent him recipes for. Also we found it to be really expensive to follow. Because we had WLS we thought it was going to help us. But the truth is you can figure out what you need to eat and get tons of recipes on PINTREST. Plus the recipes that were sent to us I had to go online to look up every one of them. They sent the sites email for you to look up. I really think there are many many programs online to help us with that. Hope everything goes ok for you.

I had my Panni in 2015. I was at my goal weight of 125#'s and I can defintly tell you my recovery was nothing. The drains are not bad at all. I had to have my daughter come and drain them and change my bandages for awhile. I could do the drains but for the life of me I couldn't do the bandages. I kid you not it was a super duper recovery. Now I took my pain pills for a little while because I was told that I didn't want to take them after I was already in pain. I didn't even have to wear a compression belt. I even had the nurse call my PS I just thought he had forgotten to get me one on order. He removed 10plus #'s. The only thing I wish is I would have went with the TT with Lipo on my upper stomach. My advise is to really make sure that your Suregon knows exactly what you want. My PS promised this and that and didn't follow thru with it. I am glad I had it done but just wish I would have known that now I DO need lipo on my upper stomach. He said he would give me a good deal for $6,000 he woud do Lipo and a breast lift. I feel like he was just setting up more business and I would have gladly paid the extra if I had known.

Hi, I have Fibromylgia, Osteo arthur, Psoratic Arthur and the beginnings of Rhematoid arthur. I had back surgery in 2005, which had helped oh so much. I started having terrible knee problems. My PCP told me that it was arthritis. When I ask him why I didn't have problems before my weight loss, he told me that I would have been in a wheelchair without losing my weight. Now I'm not saying all of my ailments are gone NOPE I still have my off days but I have learned that I have to push right thru them!! I feel so much better!! Not that I am off all of my paoin meds but I use FENTYNOL Patches. Which are so much better than VICODIN or METHEDONE!! Which I was on previous to my WLS!!! I was on TOXIC amounts of them!! One thing for sure after all of the DR.s telling me that exercise is where it is at. I always said I am damned if I do or if I don't because during my exercise yes I do hurt but you know what those DR'S are right!! It is where it is at!! Good Luck on your weight loss surgery.

Well, my story goes this way!! I lost my weight and had many skin issues. I went to my PS and his office was in my Surgeon's office. Because of ongoing skin infections I reported to my PCP, PS and my Dermatologist. I also took pictures of my infections. I didn't need them at all. The PS office personal know exactly what the insureance co needs. My surgery for my skin removal was coved 100%. I had a severe reaction to the muscle relaxant that they used. I was paralyzed and couldn't move anything for 8hours. I came to unable to move and the nurse was shocking my temple I couldn't tell them I was awake at all. All and all my skin surgery ended up costing wait for it....$38,000. All of it was paid by my insureance. Thank goodness Personally I would not go to Mexico or any where else for surgery. When you have to see a DR for whatever reason it might be hard to get someone else to see you. Not sure but I did fire my WL Surgeon and had not one problem going to another Bariatric Group.

I also have FIBROMYLGIA. I have Osteoarthritis, Psoriasis Arthritis. I have used so many Opiates. I was dignosed. 1997. I got lucky because my Dr had Fibro also, so he knew all about it. Back to the medications I have been on. They put me on MARINOL which is the THC from pt. It was a joke. I have made brownies and smoked it for my pain.. The thing is you don't know exactly how much to use so I overdosed myself a couple of times. Man the PARANOIA I just knew I was going to the ER and would have to tell them what I did. LOL Then they put me on METHADONE, this distroyed my Cognitive abilities like noones business!! Then they put me on VICODIN, I took high doses of it. After I moved back from Idaho to Roseburg, Oregon finding a DR was a real challenge!! When I found one to help me he was shocked to say the least!! The amount of VICODIN that I took were TOXIC!! So he tooj me off of it and gave me FENTANYL PATCH"S. He retired just recently so I had to start all over with a new DR. who is worried about the FDA stepping in and stopping the use of OPIATES at all unless you have Cancer. You talk about the worrying!!! I have had the best coverage of my pain ever. So I had my RNY and I can honestly say that getting my weight off has really helped me out. I never had probems with my knees until after my WLS they tell me if I hadn't lost my weight that I would be in a wheelchair. But now here is the DAMNED IF YOU DO AND DAMNED if youy don't. You all know what they say about exercise helping FIBRO well yes they ARE right, but before whenever you tried to exercise you had so much pain that you wouldn't have been able to exercise!! After my WLS it is totally true about it helping my pain level. They are defintly right in that area!! I still hurt and some days I can't do what I had planned but YES IT will help us but there are just times that I roll up on my couch with a blanket. Good luck to you all

I am almost 4 years out from my RNY. I was a insulin resistant and I took 100 units of Levermire (shots) 2 times per day plus 500MG of METFORMIN also for diabetes. I took 12 different medications. Now I take 4, three of which are for my high blood pressure. Plus my Vitamins. Here are my stats: At one time I weighed in at 285#'s but managed to lose 36#'s on my own. So here is my journey HIGHEST WEIGHT 249 LOWEST WEIGHT 117#'s SURGERY WEIGHT 232 CURRENT WEIGHT 125#'s. I got to my lowest weight in 6 monthd then managed to gain 8#'s but it was all great. I had problems with strictures and had to have 5 Endoscopes with 4 Dialations. This was the reason for my low weight. I have maintained my 125#'s for over 3 and 1/2 years. Not only am I off so much of my medications I now can exercise and actually enjoy it. I am able to walk 3 to 4 miles three to four times a week. I also have Fibromylgia and 2 different Arthuritis and now I feel good. I am not saying I am pain free because I still have my days when I just cannot do it all. I know that both surgeries have good and not som good draw backs but...if you stay your plan and follow your Surgeons guidelines you too will be successful!! Good luck on which ever bath you choose!!

I am 4 years out from my RNY. I have had a hard time with meat. I can eat moist wings, which I make a mean SOY SAUCE chicken wing. Yummy Just try different meats sowly. I just now can eat a very very tender steak ( I have waited so loooong for it) One of my favorite before my WLS. We buy a T-bone steak and hubby gives me the very moist tender piece after he pounds it to death. We share it. (He also had WLS) To be honest I had to use Yogurt, Beans, cottage cheese, cheese for my Protein. Plus I have a protein I add to my coffee to help me get my protein in. Heck it has only been the last 9 months that I even tried bread. I buy our famous (around here anyway) DAVE'S KILLER BREAD. Al kinds of good stuff in it. Whole grain lots of nuts etc. I can eat 1 piece. I also use nuts and P. butter almond butter. All great in moderation. Good Luck!! I hope you can do better with your meat challenge.

I had my Panni done Sept 2016. my PS removed 10plus #'s. I had been at my goal weight. I am now 4 years I had my RNY July 2, 2013. The Panni removal is a pretty easy surgery. I spent the night in the Hospital because my bladder wouldn't wake up after surgery. I did come home with 3 drains. I only had them for 1 week. If at all possible I would get a muscle repair. I now need Lipo. My upper stomach never did go as he had promised. He told me that he would give me a good deal, he would do a breast lift and Lipo on my upper stomach I ask him right after surgery, why is my upper stomach looking like that? He said it was swelling. It never went down. Lol I didn't get compression wear. I even ask the nurse to call him and ask him if I needed it. As you can see I am not that happy. The Panni is still flat and that part I love I just wish he would have been honest with me, I would have gladly payed the extra $$ that it would have taken to gewt the LIPO done a the same time. Good Luck just make sure to ask lots of ??'s!!!

But you have already got a jump on things and you seem to be leaning the new way of your life. Hang on HON, you are going on one heck of a journey!! I look forward to following your journey. One thing that I didn't do and I am so sad about is: TAKE your measurments before your surgery. There may come a time that your weight oss slows down but you will still be losing inches. Good Luckand one last thing, KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

I didn't have any bread products until I was 3 years out from my RNY. I got to my goal weight in 6 months but I was to afraid to try any bread. I will have 1 slice of a bread made locally called DAVE's KILLER BREAD. I have 1 slice of it with 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheese. I buy low carb flour tortillas. But I don't eat it everyday. It has worked for me. My Surgeon and my Nutritioist both told me before my surgery that in time there are no forbidden foods. That we need to eat them in Moderation. Some don't think so but this has worked for me so far. I have maintained my weight for 3 and 1/2 years. Have a great day!!

Hi Everyone, I hope you are having a nice day, the weather is beautiful here in Roseburg, Oregon but it is starting to get hot again. Now I can attest to trhe struggles of WLS and Maintance. We fall of the wagon because GUESS WHAT? We are human and we make bad choices at times. Because wer make bad choices DOES not mean we are BAD> It is a choice that we have ti becme aware of what our choices will effect us in negative ways. Now we all know what it takes to be successful, do you know why? Because we have been doing it for however long we are out from our surgery!! Just keep your eyes on the PRIZE!! Now KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

I still won't drink anything carbonated. I think it is a personal choice that each of us have to decide yes or no. I am almost 4 years out and have not had 1 drink that has carbonation. Yesterday we went to our get together with family. They had Barbqued hamburgers and all the fixings with chips and dip and of course ice cold beer!! Before muy RNY if I drank (very rarely) my choice was COORS LIGHT!! Nogt had anything but I did have some wine. That is a different story. So as I a eating my hot dog (without anything on it) and my little tablespoon of potato salad, I said that I was extremely thristy. My SIL said why aren't you drinking. Which I said because I still try to follow all of my guidelines from my surgery!! She couldn't beleive that I still follow what I was told to keep myself at my goal weight of 125#'s. I also know that it hurts my pouch if I drink to soon. For me I try to stay on the safe side when we are out because I don't want to get sick around everyone. But I can share a few things that I use for drinking. I love love Diet Peach Snapple tea, the little packages flavored water packs work great for me. If you are missing soda they carry ROOT BEER (SF of course) Orange grape to state a few of them. These taste just lie pop without the carbonation. Great stuff. I guess what I was trying to say is only you can make the decsion if you will drink pop or not. Good Luck

So of course when I had to go thru my clothes in my mind all I wanted to do was save them!! At first I had family and friends to hand down too. But anything I want to get rid of now I have noone to give them too. TRUST your program, follow your guidelines and do whaterver your Surgeon says and you will lose weight and fast. Trust me you don't want or need to keep your old clothes!!! When I went thru my closet I had 2 huge lawn bags full!! One thing I found it is so REFRESHING to purge my closet. Before my WLS I didn't have or find many choices for clothes. Now I have kind of went a little crazy and I love to shop for them and also shoes!! Man, when I lost my weight I got into shoes too. I had never wore knee high boots in my life!! My hubby bought me a shoe tree tyo put them on!! LOL KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!! Good Luck and I look forward to following your journey!!
