You aren't alone. I felt the same way. I started at 377. Lost 51 lbs on my own and had surgery at 326. At 2.5 months I lost about 29 lbs. I had the sleeve and I am still glad that is what I chose. But it is slower than the RNY. I'm now at 278 and that one more lb for 100 total is so elusive.
I've noticed a pattern. I lose very little for two weeks before my menstrual cycle. Then once my period starts I drop faster for a week or two. So, I know for me it is very hormonal.
The non scale victories like smaller clothing, dashing up the stairs, seatbelts that fit, getting my ring sized, and more are very motivating.
So...keep on your plan. Keep checking in here. You aren't alone. You are doing great.

travelergirl got a reaction from FluffyChix in High carb, high protein, low fat diet 6 months post op during intense physical activity?
You did the right thing going back to your Dr. I'm 8 months post op. I workout with trainer 3 times a week. I try to keep my carbs around 100g on gym days. Otherwise my goal is more like 60g.
My key is still to keep to the Protein first. I add in starchy veggies on gym days so that I don't start back down the path of bread and rice which I can easily over eat.
Also stay hydrated. As I moved back into more and intense workouts I found that I needed to make sure I had my 60 oz of Water during the day before my workouts (we do evenings).

I had sleeve and struggled with chicken for first couple of months. By month 3 that seemed to go away. Fruits with skin also gave me problems in the first couple of months.
Since month 6 I haven't found any foods off limit.
So, be patient and keep trying.
Have you pureed the meat? Ground chicken, turkey or beef?
Tuna was an easy one for me from the beginning.

Other options: PB2 powder. It doesn't have the same fat content as Peanut Butter.< br>Lentils are a fave.
Look into black Beans and lima beans too.

My mother spent the first couple of months asking me over and over if I was sure and didn't I want to try and do it on my own. She never directly came out and said she thought it was a bad idea, but that was sure the message. It wasn't until a month or so before surgery that she switched on me. I never asked why but she became very supportive.
I agree that often it is fear behind the lack of support.

I'm a planner too. It does comfort me.
I had the sleeve. I had a swallow test the morning after my surgery. No problems so I was allowed to try my first Protein Shake.< br>For me I had total faith in my surgeon and her outcomes. So if you have faith in your surgeon then focus on that. So, if your surgeon doesn't find that test necessary, confirm what they do use or look for so that you can help identify any symptoms and communicate with the staff. Ask them for instructions about what you should do if you have concerns...what number to call etc...
    Then trust in your preparations.
    Good luck!

I workout in evenings. I don't get energized by the workouts so when I do a morning workout I'm tired the whole day. Workout in evening...have dinner...shower and put on pjs!

    1. I confess I use straws.
    2. I confess I had a Snickers and...i didn't like it. So not satisfying.
    3. I confess that I would often weigh myself twice a day and obsess over the numbers.
    4. I confess that I tried some rice. My fave Mexican rice. I ate a few bites after having my fajita meat first. I would have previoiusly eaten the entire serving of rice before anything else.
    5. I get jealous reading some of the other posts with people losing weight faster than I am. I did well on my own losing weight but always had problems keeping it off. I'm in this for the long haul but sometimes it is hard to focus on my journey and not compare it to others.

This is perfect timing for me. I just hit 6 months and see my Dr this week. I've been traveling a bunch, which means eating out. It was easy to see some old habits creep in. Back to tracking everything...thats always my best tool.
Thank you for sharing...feels good to know I'm not alone.

I had this same issue but luckily I don't live alone! I also have no health problems. It was determined that my blood pressure was too low and hot showers make it even worse. Once I had some higher sodium broth (and then foods), I didn't feel that again. But yeah be sure to have the other issues mentioned checked too!

I struggled with dizziness the first couple of months. My issue was blood pressure. I wasn't drinking enough Water to keep my blood pressure up. I bought a blood pressure machine that I use when I feel dizzy to help monitor how I'm doing. If I get enough water during the day, I'm fine.

travelergirl got a reaction from FluffyChix in Breast reduction- did anyone get one after surgery? If so why?
I started out at a 46J cup. I'm now down 100 lbs and wearing a 40K. That's right...i got a fitting because bras weren't fitting. The cup size gets slightly smaller as the band size gets smaller...so my breasts haven't really gone down much...mostly stayed the same. But with the smaller band size I need the larger cup to keep it closer to my original J.
I am looking forward to a reduction and lift.
Finding clothes, bras, bathing suits, sports bras to fit me is a dream that will hopefully come true.
I do get back, neck, and shoulder pains. I have divets in my shoulders from the straps. I've even lost circulation in my arms/hands because the straps were too tight.
I would talk to a doctor and ask to talk with some former patients. Check out before and after pics. When I see those pics I feel a sense of relief...and I want that myself.
Good luck and congrats on all your success.

Just about everyone on here has had a stall. There are lots of different things to try, but sometimes we just have to be patient. I struggled with obsessing about my weight loss numbers in the first three months. Then I started to relax a bit. Now at 6 months post op I don't get flustered when my numbers stall.
Things to try...more Water, more Protein, more fat, more calories, switch breakfast and dinner, change from cardio to weights or vice versa. Try one and see what happens.
I've found my numbers freeze or crawl for 2 weeks just before my menstrual cycle and then once it starts...whoosh weight comes off quickly

You are a champ. Doing great! I found the first couple of days tough. I got headaches which is supposed to be from my body releasing toxins in the fat. By day 3 or 4 they were gone. But I was going to the bathroom so much that I thought I had a uti. My doctor did a urine test and it was clean...but with lots of ketones. She theorized that my bladder was inflamed from all of the extra urination.
By day 7 I was getting very tired. My energy was getting lower and I needed a nap to get through the day. That last week was a blur. Getting everything ready and being excited, I don't remember being hungry.
I did not have to do the vanilla anchovy shakes...thankfully...they sound awful.
I'm proud for you! Keep us updated on your progress.

The best time is when you will do it. As noted, with all of the conflicting research of varying quality, it's hard to tell what time is better, if any at all, or if that view will change over time. Further, what research there is on exercise is rarely focused on us - the obese and recovering obese, so there is another variable that throws everything into question. Exercising at a sub-optimal time is better than not exercising at the optimal time.
This is somewhat similar to my advice on Protein Drinks - while whey isolate is generally considered to be the most available and absorbable form, the one that you will drink is better than the best thing out there that you won't drink (with the possible exception of GENEPRO, which only seems to be good for making expensive urine.)
