DaleCruse got a reaction from GeTnBackuP in I was sleeved 3 years ago today. Ask me anything.
Not really. I'd have to start really overeating to pack on much more. My weight has been steady for months.
Instead of spending brainpower worry about regaining, I'll spend brainpower working on how to lose more.

No. The only things you need to do forever is breathe & pay taxes.

My biggest challenge was alcohol. Once I started, I went too far. I recently quit & don't miss it.
As time has gone on, my weight loss slowed, stopped, & I gained some back. I'm actively working to change that.

I first joined this community to get support. Now, three years past surgery, I'm here to offer support to both the PRE & POST surgery forums. We see a lot of the same questions being asked: "HELP!" or "Is this normal?!" or "How do I do this?!" I just hope the people getting support stick around long enough to become veterans & offer support too!

Note that not everyone needs those. I was lucky & didn't require them at all. I had them but didn't end up using them. Good luck!

Our bodies can fluctuate 2-3 pounds on a daily basis. For me, it was a bit less so after surgery. In my opinion, you're well within standard deviation. Good luck!

Don't set expectations on weight loss and time losing. You will only set yourself up for misery. The thing you want to mentally prepare for is the "pain". No I don't mean the physical discomfort, that is a different level for everyone. I mean the mental anguish that you will inevitably go through. Unreasonable crying and emotional outburst are completely normal and very common. Be prepared to be very difficult to be around. Have your husband prepare to take the brunt of your attacks. Let him know what to say before it happens. We men are generally "fixers" and don't quite get the need to just say something without wanting to fix it.
All that being said, you will lose a lot the first month. Then you will stall. Then you will think something is wrong because you are basically starving and working your @ss off but nothing is happening, etc... And it will be slow for you since you are only 210 SW. You are going to have to think of this as a long term process. You just won't get the instant gratification we all say we aren't expecting but deep down we just know that there is a greek god(dess) hiding under our fat.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. Even if your doctor is going on holiday, there must be someone else on your surgical team you can contact. Good luck!

You should be fine. I know there are lots of different strains. If you buy from a dispensary, maybe you can find a strain that helps with inflammation. Consider this an opportunity to try something new. Good luck!

@ZinNH is right with that analogy. So many of us view surgery as the destination. It isn't. It's just the biggest event on your way to your destination, which is after you're healed & are doing daily maintenance. The destination isn't a number on a scale or even lower blood pressure. It's living your new life.

I just came out & told people. I found everyone I told was supportive except one. Ironically, she's one who could most use weight loss surgery. She considered surgery "cheating". Anyway, just telling people worked well for me. Good luck to you!

    4.5 months post-op.
    1. Get yourself in a long-view mentality. Do not get fascinated with the quick drop at the beginning (or lack thereof). Do not obsess over what is happening with the scale on a daily or weekly basis - use it is a tool (and an imperfect one at that).
    2. Use this time to change your habits. As much as possible, routinize your food. Move eating to a "background" activity (something that is done out of necessity, versus organizing activities/events around eating). Do as much as you can to completely eliminate unhealthy/non-nutritious food from your diet. Train yourself to love/crave/want nutrient rich food. Be prepared to find new activities to replace eating - walking, exercise, other hobbies and activities.
    3. Prepare yourself for how you are going to communicate to others about your lifestyle change. You have the right to communicate however you choose - but think it through in advance and be ready. Be ready for people to have opinions (both positive and negative). Be ready for the overweight people in your life to be curious, jealous or inspired. Be prepared for some of your relationships to change because YOU will change.
    4. Take on habits that foster discipline - making your bed every day, weighing/measuring your food, prepping meals, keeping a clean house - any habits that build or foster a sense of discipline where it has been lacking. There will be times when the discipline of keeping your word (if only your word to YOURSELF) will give you a lot of power when old cravings kick in.
    5. Empower yourself - do not beat yourself up if you slip, if you make a mistake, if you have strong feelings, if people act like morons. You are making a choice for the quality of your life.
    6. Create a point for the surgery that supports you. For me, looking better was not worth it. What was worth it was having my body by useful, make a difference for others and contribute to people for decades to come.
