jessgnc got a reaction from tcodrington in Pre-op Weight Loss
My place also required us to maintain, if not lose.

Not everyone is able to lose pre-op. In my situation, my body is broken. All of the things they taught in nutrition class, I was already doing. I haven't drank soda in years, I keep very low carb, I have a 1200 day streak on myfitnesspal proving that I measure my portions and log my food, I work out regularly, I am mindful of the ingredients in my food, etc. Hell, I've now been substituting one meal a day with a Protein Shake just to ease into a liquid diet. None of that has made a difference for me.
I'm having surgery done because my body won't lose weight on its own. Honestly, while I wish it would work pre-op, not seeing ANY change on the scale despite being in the best health I've been in ever helps me know I'm making the right choice.

    @jessgnc
I came back to this post because I got an invite to the fb page today. I asked the secretary at the first window about it, she had me write my info down for her, and a few hours later I got the invite. If you haven't gotten one yet, they want the email associated with your account, name, and what your profile photo looks like so they know they have the right person.
BTW: My packet is ready for insurance submission as of today, woot woot!

I don't have daily meal plans, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE that my practice has a full menu up and available for patients!

I want to hear from you! I'm going through with a modified, less extreme version of the DS! I've done my homework, grilled my doctor and his nurse for multiple hours and I'm prepared for this 100%. I have no fear of committing to Vitamins, diet or anything else.
Still, I'm dying to learn from personal accounts. So DS post-op people...what important things did you learn that you wish someone had warned you about beforehand?

Yeah, Chaos and I go to the same place, so I've tried the same sample pack. A few of them are passable, but it mostly is the equivalent of bubble gum flavored medicine. It tastes passable to swallow it. There's no mistaking it for candy.

I'm DREADING those berry flavored Celebrate ADEK vitamins they gave us. I could barely choke down one. To do that multiple times a day for months? PASS.

I'm 3 and 1/2 years out and I am still amazed at how little I can eat and be satisfied. Your tummy does allow you to eat more as time goes by. But isn't that one of the GREAT PERKS of WLS? To be able to eat less and be satisfied is TOTALLY AMAZING!!!

Woo! Rex Bariatric represent! We should track each other down at one of the support groups! Are you on the FB group yet? I'm still trying to get my invite.
I actually chatted with a post-op DS patient for a while on Tuesday while waiting to get my surgery set up. I'm getting nervous now that it is almost there. She looked fantastic and she was talking about her life and how it has changed for the better and how happy she is she picked this option. It almost felt like she was set up to be there, to quell my nerves. Now that I have a surgery picked out and my packet is off for insurance approval, this is all getting real!!

That's fantastic! Good luck and congratulations.

I'll admit I was a little disappointed though. I was expecting you to say this was a 30 second snippet podcast that you listened to and knew you chewed long enough when the episode ended.

LOL. One of my bonus daughters, when presented with the quiet game, goes about 5 seconds and then says "oh, well, I lose" and continues her almost non-stop patter. Good thing she's cute.

Re-read your own post. Your "friend" was always a monster. It was until when you were down and needed help that you realized what a terrible person she was, surgery was just a coincidence.

I love everyone that I love so much more post-op. The issues I went through with my help to get to the point of surgery really made me value life more. When I see people posting about cheating on their spouses post-op and assorted other things it surprises me. My love for people and the world has increased 10 fold. I would never want to harm anyone or cause them pain.

It may just be me, but if this person could not be mutually supportive of your issues, then she is not a friend. Having said that, there are huge mood swings after surgery, but in my opinion never to the point you would throw away a friend over some trivial BS.
Maybe you could take the worry you have for her and spend some of it on you? You deserve support and caring. That starts with you caring for yourself.

I'm not a doctor, but I remember my nutritionist talking about this. How are you doing on your Proteins? She has said multiple times that people who aren't losing as fast as they think they should, or are stalling are generally not having enough Protein in their diet.

My psychiatrist warned me about that and said not to panic! Sometime they'll call back in after the test for clarification. If they had any questions or certain answers were high (like for signs of depression or anxiety), they would want to just clarify answers or handle the problem. T

    Hi and welcome @lovely_tai!
I totally get how you feel. I'm currently at the "waiting for insurance approval" stage, so I have been neck deep in all of this for a few months.
When I began, I was 100% in your shoes. This isn't anyone else's business, it is a private matter, I won't share unless asked point blank.
As I've gone along this process though, I've found myself revisiting that attitude. I'm excited about this now. I went into it ashamed, as though getting the surgery was accepting failure. Now I realize that I'm accepting help and a tool.
I've told my closest friends and one coworker (who will be covering for me). Aside from one person who is young and doesn't understand my struggle, everyone else has been overwhelmingly supportive. I'm SO glad I told. I had been nervous that they wouldn't get it.
I still have no intention of telling random people. If they ask point blank if I had surgery, I'd say yes. If someone asked me my secret though, I'd just say that I finally found something that works for me. Technically it isn't lying!

Thanks @newme17. I rationally know everything you said. Still, sometimes it helps to hear someone else say it.

Lack of sleep was definitely a factor! I just worked three 16 hour days. I'm wiped!

I'm gonna tell you the answer to your problem in 4 words. It isn't worth it.
Mind your business and realize that the issue lies within you. You won't find what you seek through sexual relationships with men other than your husband. Whatever it is you seek can only come from within.
Be good to yourself and don't engage in behavior that is hurtful to your loved ones or to you. In hurting someone else you will only hurt yourself more.

Stress also has an impact...causes us to develop more cortisol...although you ate healthy, it can be a factor. Lack of sleep. Not getting enough fluids in. About that time of the month. It's no way fat, unless you laid around the whole time eating cheesecake all day, you didn't gain 8lbs of fat. So, don't worry about it. As fast as the fluctuation happened, it'll happen again and go down. Focus on other things but the scale number. It's a mind battlefield for craziness to happen.
