FunkyMunkyBrat got a reaction from BigJohn58 in Help I went in for my initial consultation and wanted the Gastric Sleeve the doctor suggested the Duodenal switch surgery
Initially I went in wanting the RNY.. I figured at my age and health issues that would be best for me but at the first appt with the surgeon we talked and he felt like th band would be a better option for me.. I wasn't entirely convinced, but told him if he felt that was the best way for me I trusted him to make that decision.. Fast forward to after I've had an GI & EGD.. Found out I had Barrett Esophagus Syndrome and H. Pylori infection.. He wasn't sure we could do the surgery till he did some asking around.. And now the RNY is the only choice because of the Gerd ..
Definitely get a 2nd opinion.. Any doctor should be explaining WHY they feel 1 particular way is better than the other..

I love seeing the progress people have made after surgery. So for those comfortable enough to share them I'd love to see your before and after (and even progress) pics. I haven't had surgery yet (and wont for at least another 3mths) so I don't have any to post but I still like seeing what I have to look forward to. The pic below is me at my highest of 316lbs 2hrs after my son was born.

.. And stop cheating.. You're stronger than that.. I've been on a liquid +plus no/low carb veggies for 11 days and "cheated" once, with spaghetti squash, which turned out to not really be a cheat anyways LoL.. I'm a stubborn person.. I quit smoking cold turkey back in February to be able to have this surgery, so I told myself I can be just as stubborn with this 4 wk pre-surgery diet.. YOU GOT THIS!

Hi, I seen someone post about this book on another thread the other day and it's very informative and helps you really understand the changes you have to make and to be more aware of what's going on in your head and the life long changes that have to be made..

This is due to all of the Fluid they pump into you while you're in the hospital. Trust me, you'll start to get rid of it if you haven't already. My Water bill went up

    You put in the time.
    You put in the money.

You go to all the appointments and you jump through all the hoops.
    You do the pre-op diet.

    You have the surgery.

You cared enough about yourself to make the commitment to WLS and you physically and permanently alter your body...

And then you get mad because someone tells you not to eat the d@mn taco? Not to drink alcohol or soda 2.783 days after surgery? To put down the freaking pizza'? To stop eating bread/rice/pasta/bananas/hoagies/20oz steaks TEMPORARILY while your body heals and you get to your goal weight? To actually stick to YOUR doctor's plan?

Even better, you get mad when they only do so AFTER you ASKED????

    SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?

Yes. I'd guess most of us have head hunger and cravings. I'd guess most of us had a nibble or sip of something off plan. I've no doubt that most of us were not 100% compliant 100% of the time. But I'd also guess that those of us who have done this, gotten to goal weight and stayed there have been compliant the majority of the time. I'd also guess that many of us who have been successful would appreciate a swift kick in the rear if/when we ask a question I bet we already know the answer to.

It's not rocket science and this isn't Romper Room. Make good choices, stick to your doctor's orders or don't, but don't get mad if you fail to get the results you want when you refuse to do what you are supposed to do. And don't get mad when someone tells you that what you are putting in your mouth isn't the best idea in the world even though you want it right now.

Value yourself more than that. Seriously.
