It's funny that you say that about the skinny Manhattan chicks you're around. I've been watching a lot more tv than I usually do bc I've been tired and weak post op, and I've noticed all the real housewives of OC are super into low carb and barely eat. See? We're just fancy now

I am now a month and a half out and the Vertigo is gone. I had it for about 3 weeks. Not bad, just disconcerting. You should feel 10 times better than you do today by this time next week. Hang in there.

Thanks bpowell, Glad your surgeon gave you the all clear. My pain from earlier in the week lasted two days and then poof was gone. It was kind of strange. I have still tried to take it a little easer though on my walks.

Sorry, that was sarcasm. You can absolutely count PB. Trainers get stuffy about it because it's high in fat.

I get it. I'm pretty much at the same place you are. Getting very bored with the same foods, cause they dont make me feel icky. I try to eat food as much as I can, but I do have a Protein Drink every AM. But the scale stalls, the weight isn't coming off even doing the program and with exercise. Grrr. I miss enjoying food and if I get Constipation one more time, I'll explode. It's going to get better...I know this deep underneath all this blah. But this is hard. Do you have support? I'm seeing a counselor once a week, this helps...my friends and family are great, but they don't get it. I try to look at little gains. My clothes are baggier, I fit better with the seatbelt. Am I totally convinced I made the right choice...not yet. Am I able to see some good, yes. So I hold on to that and hope it gets better like everyone on here says it will. Good luck to you.

    @@theantichick,
I am sorry you are having to struggle with your trainers about your diet. Since you are just getting started with training and you are going to be paying a lot of money for it, I would make sure you can have a trainer you can work with.
I mean, beyond the disagreements you may have over food, do you get the sense that you can work with them? From your description of them and what they each said regarding WLS and your diet, it sounds like they rubbed you the wrong way. Now, it is one thing to disagree on some points, and that can be a great learning experience for both of you as you discuss the points. However, it is quite another thing if you are simply at the receiving end of advice and instructions that you disagree with or do not make sense to you.
This can get in the way of your training for a few reasons. One is that exercise and diet do go together, and you should feel comfortable talking about food with your trainer. Another reason is that you want to feel comfortable with your trainer, and not tip-toeing around trying to avoid a subject (food) which is very important in your life. And another reason is that you need to be able to trust your trainer regarding exercise, which may be difficult if you know they are wrong about diet. As it stands, do you feel you can trust your trainer’s expertise in training, even though you do not trust his expertise in diet? Do you worry that you will be given a standard “bodybuilding” exercise regimen the same way you were advised to follow a “bodybuilding” diet?
So, it is great that you are starting training! As you said, you can learn new exercises and push yourself a little harder than without a trainer. Just remember that you are in control, and make sure you get a trainer whom you love. There are great ones out there.

If the VP says something again about how if you had come to him you wouldn't have had to have surgery you can always tell him he would become a millionaire if he would package and market his wonderful system. Make sure you say it in your sweetest voice so that he isn't sure if you are sarcastic or serious.
Or you could go with subtle put down of "Well Bless your heart". Which in some circles is the Southern equivalent of F- You.

I do understand why the vets "take a break" or leave altogether. This board tends to get redundant or repetitive and it's pretty annoying sometimes to see the same questions posed over and over and over and over and over and over and over and I've only been a member since June. I don't post a lot of questions because my career is based on educating cancer patients throughout their diagnosis, treatment and management of their condition. In other words I have to look up a lot of s h I t sometimes. Theres a lot of information out there and if you look even a little bit you'll find the answers you need.
I think we newbies come here wet behind the ears eager to soak up knowledge and find a happy medium between our old life and our new life. We are looking to connect with others with similar experiences and understand how others have managed. Over time we become more acclimated to the lifestyle, more understanding of what has to be done and why and hopefully less inclined to make the same mistakes that led us to need surgery in the first place. Then the newbies become the vets and the vets become more "normal" and so forth and so on.
I remember when I was in nursing school. I frequented a Forum for nurses. I was on that site almost everyday. When I finally became an RN I hung around for about a year and then--- I moved on. I had tapped out. Although I had not experienced everything-- I was better equipped to handle any situation that I encountered. I understood how to access my resources and I was doing well on my own. I offered advice and encouragement to other newbies but I had my co workers and nursing school buddies to share war stories with. I no longer needed the forum. I was no longer benefitting.
I find myself bypassing certain topics because there is not a lack of people willing to answer or comment. There is no need for me to answer grudgingly or hastily because I think someone lacks complete common sense. Let someone else have the floor.

New members know that they can google questions, but they are looking for advice from an experienced person. They are looking for the experts, not just random answers.

When you are burned out on answering questions, it is time to take a break and let others do the answering. What attracts people to a board is the ability to interact.

When everyone quits interacting and simply points to the search bar, then the board will cease to exist.

    Hi Everyone:
I am new to this forum. I am 50 years old and have been contemplating bariatric surgery on and off for probably a few decades. After my final straw (knees have bone-on-bone arthritis, making walking very difficult), I attended my second weight loss surgery (WLS) seminar with the intention of signing up for the Lap Band procedure. The seminar & surgeon changed my mind and after doing more reading and talking with others who have had WLS, I decided the Gastric Sleeve was the right procedure for me.
Currently I am going through the lengthy pre-op phase. I decided on a surgeon and hospital. I met with the nutritionist and completed the psych eval. I will attend the nutrition class next week and meet with my primary doc the following week. I submitted my weight loss history to the surgeon's office. That was a bit of a feat to compile. Luckily I kept some journals over the years of my numerous attempts to lose weight. I consider myself somewhat of an expert in this area. I have lost nearly 100 lbs many times,... only to gain it all back and then some. (I suspect most of you know this story.)
My surgeon requires that I get an EKG, treadmill test, sleep study, ultrasound, labs, etc. I will be out of town for a training toward the end of October/early November and was hoping I could get these tests completed prior to leaving. It doesn't look like that will happen as I can't order most of the tests until I meet up with my PC. Ah well,... I am practicing patience. But it's not easy. After spending years debating the surgery option, now that I have decided what I want to do, I want it to happen NOW! lol. (I need to work on this.)
I am a little concerned about my current food behavior. I have read people refer to it as having "food funerals". I am certainly in the food grieving stage and not doing such a great job of looking like someone who is serious about losing weight. I understand this is somewhat "normal" though. ("I just want to have one last burger or one more pizza, ...") Not feeling great about my body right now. On the other hand, I am hopeful. I know it is going to be a difficult journey. This is going to be a lifelong change. It's exciting and scary at the same time.
Reading the stories on this website has been very helpful. I especially appreciate those who have come back to post 5+ years out. The long-term success stories are really inspiring! One worries that this surgery is just the latest trend and will be considered barbaric in 20 years to come. (On the other hand, I don't have 20 years to wait for the next latest, greatest weight loss procedure.) So far, I am pretty pleased at the studies I have read and the success stories shared here. Thank you to this community!
This was a long post. If you got to the end, thank you for reading!

They have an after taste, but Atkins and a few others make a Protein Water. If you add a couple of drops of one of those Water flavor things it helps somewhat. The Protein water has 20 g Protein which nice. You get your ounces and your P all at once.
Oh and I also made some Soup. I used chicken flavored bone broth (9 grams of protein and I added some of the bouillon stuff that comes in a jar for extra flavor. you can even add a little milk or cream of chicken Soup to give it more texture.
Just a few ideas. I am 3 weeks out and I got tired of the Protein shakes too.

Oh my, can I relate to this!!! I have been trying to accept my new weight of 145 as my normal since it was my actual goal weight from the beginning. However, I got down to as low as 128 and now I get so distraught at the the thought of being 145. I know it's crazy! I feel good (better than at 128 even), people say I look better, but in my head, I'm a failure because I couldn't stay at 128-130.
My clothes don't fit as good and I am noticing that some of my fall clothing from last year is a little tight. I know I won't be happy unless I get down to 135 again so instead of trying to accept me at 145, I am going to fight for what I feel will be my happy place. This is definitely a mind game!!! I have to cut carbs, I know. They weaseled their way back in and I allowed it to happen. No time like the present to start, I guess. Good luck to you!

Babbs kinda took the thoughts right out of my head! I hit goal in 10 months (248-135). Maintained for 2 years and now that I am over 3 years out, i have gradually gained about 10 lbs. Year 3 is no joke. I never had a problem getting off a few pounds and now it seems these pesky ones don't want to leave me. I am not terribly disappointed as I feel I look a little healthier but my pants are starting to not fit right and I swear I will NOT go up a size. That is a slippery slope for me.
As Babbs said, good for you on making goal and your attitude is AWESOME. I swear some times that is half the battle. Just be prepared that what works for you RIGHT NOW for maintenance might change the further down the line you get. Awareness is key! That is my motto. Be aware and mindful of my actions and what I put in my mouth. And don't ever think you got this under control for life. These boards have been my lifeline for the past 3 years. I may not post often, but I am on here reading and soaking up everyone's wisdom. I wish you luck and a sincere CONGRATS on your success thus far!
