christiR got a reaction from stephrpatt in Blood clots anyone?
Update from today's appointment with the surgeon. Left outside leg hot sensation like i have is NOT blood clot. She said it is due to the fact that they invert u so much during surgery that it puts pressure on vertebrae/tendons in your back that swell and those nerves go to the left side of your leg. (If that makes any sense to anyone)

I agree with you there.... not having forbidden foods really helps take the pressure off... i feel it teaches you to make good choices for yourself, not having someone dictate them for you. I feel that if i was told you are never to have x,y,z.. i would probably rebel and crave it so much more... but this way i know i can have it in moderation but CHOOSE not to.... that is exactly what i need to make a long term lifestyle change.... this is for life, and sometimes in life you will want a small piece of cake or a bread roll... denying myself or completely eliminating an entire food or food group is not healthy in my opinion (psychologically).. that for me would bea set up for failure.. i would feel deprived!

24 lbs down, I'm eating soft foods starting this weekend. I've felt restriction as soon as I started eating flaked fish. My sleeve holds onto dense Protein. I made an omelet with 1 egg, smoked salmon. I could eat half of it. But I can eat yogurt 1/2 cup like a boss.

I remember telling my WLS team at the 2 week follow up that I am always hungry and didn't think this was supposed to be the case. In hindsight it was due to being on liquids and puree. My hunger dissipated after progressing to solid food.
Now 2 months post op I rarely feel hunger. It's like they said I have to remind myself to eat.
It has also become clearer to me when I want to eat for emotional reasons....pleasure, boredom, stress, etc. I'm glad the new size of my stomach will no longer allow me to binge in an attempt to satisfy an emotional reason.

In 16 months you have lost over 300 pounds?

    WOW girl!!!
You need to write a book about your journey. I'll buy it. That will be your first $20.00 toward your skin removal surgery.
(tapping my foot... so when is the book going to be on the shelves... huh? huh?)

I was sleeved the same day!!!! I had no pain, but was very nauseous on the morphine took me most of the night for them to regulate the nausea. Once I was off the morphine I was good. Discharged on Friday with still minimal pain, just had 0 energy. Able to get 32 oz of Fluid down and haven't touched a pain med. I'm starting to think maybe they didn't do the procedure....

I was sleeved on the 27th. A lot of nausea too they sent me home with a script for it. My incisions don't hurt but my left shoulder and neck do. Makes breathing difficult at times. I feel pretty good overall. Surgery sure makes little differences in your body come to life like did that part hurt before or is that normal? Funny actually! Don't overdo it! Congrats

But for those who are doing 2 weeks don't feel bad bc after I had a couple more food funerals I felt TERRIBLE. I thought I would add that so I don't have a mutiny. I was doing so well and feeling so great and I feel like crap now. I'm bloated and miserable and struggling to get back on track so I wish he would have never given me the green light.

Can you have your surgery with the surgeon you have your trust with and then switch to a different post-op group?
I have moved since my surgery and have been welcomed into the bariatric community in my new area.
It sounds to me that your present group is in need of a new coordinator. Want a new job? Really though, I would make sure they know --with documentation--just how and where THEY have failed YOU.
You could muggle through--trying to make suggestions for corrections as you go toward your surgery or just choose a different surgeon. Since you already have your approval, the set back shouldn't be too severe.
Things like this happening is just poor administration. It is senseless and certainly not patient friendly. Is this hospital a "Center of Excellence"?
Please, keep posting and let us know what you decide to do. We care.
Again, I am soo sorry you have to experience this during what is supposed to be a wonderful lifechanging journey. I'm rooting for you. Stay strong. !

No regrets here regarding having surgery.

I DO, however, regret 20+ years of obesity and yo-yo dieting. I do regret the irreparable damage I've done to my joints. I do regret 15 years of rarely appearing in front of the camera with my kids as they grew up because I hated seeing myself in pictures. I do regret all the vacation opportunities I missed because I was too unfit to run the dunes/ride the horse/fit in the roller coaster/hike the mountain/participate in the school 10k/etc. I regret being the fat mom in the room. I regret being a horrible body image role model to my two teens. I could go on...

No, I never regretted the idea of surgery. I was scared and nervous, but I knew it needed to be done to get my life back.

christiR reacted to Heather I in Surgeon accidentally cutting the liver?
Two things on this. I used to be a court reporter and took down testimony in civil litigation for over 20 years. I did about a dozen fatal RNY lawsuits where the surgeon "nicked" the liver and the patient bled out and died. Granted, the technique has certainly been refined over the years, and physicians learned a lot about performing the surgery, but the liver-shrink diet is a really big deal and needs to be taken seriously. When they say it can be too large to perform surgery, they mean it. They WILL cancel it.
I actually just had my surgeon meeting yesterday before we submit the docs to BCBS and book a date, and I asked about the diet, how much it shrinks the liver. He said he wasn't aware of any before/after studies of how much it shrinks, but he said if I'm not compliant and it's too big to work in there, the surgery is cancelled.

Anecdotally, I asked if he could take out my gallbladder while in there since I hear that has a high probability of needing to come out after weight loss. He said they don't do that at the same time for a couple reasons. One, your GB may never need to be removed, so that's another surgery site hampering recovery time. Two, the GB is wedged near vital organs, and when it's surrounded by fat, it's very dangerous to be noodling around in there trying to take it out. My doctor prefers to take it out after weight loss (if necessary,) when he can move around in there.

He also said if he goes in there and sees the GB is in bad shape, he cancels the bariatric surgery and goes ahead told to the GB first, then reschedules the bariatric surgery.

    Ahhhhh!

So I went to get my preop blood work and EKG done today. Thy also told me I need an ABG (arterial blood gas) test. I freaked out at the unknown, naturally. It was the most painful experience I've ever had. The tech was supposed to draw blood from the artery in my wrist. Not the blue ones you can see, but they had to go digging. DIGGING. I passed out when she got deeper in my wrist looking for the vein. She never actually found it after trying and digging for a solid 10 minutes. She said that she wasn't able to get anything so she will tell the doctor. She said sometimes they don't need it, but if they do, they'll have to do it when I'm in the hospital for surgery.
    End rant.
