Wow! There is so much I would like to say, but I am afraid it would overwhelm you. There is alot to unpack in your post. I hope as you go on your journey that you find a counselor or therapist to talk with you walk through your weight loss journey. You have not taken an easy way out. Anyone that says that to you does not understand the complexities of overeating and the relationship between eating and feelings. You are changing your relationship with food. Your Mom may not understand her relationship with food and feeding you. So get ready to experience a variety of emotions and seek out people who can support you in your efgort.

What was your start weight? This is a good reminder of expectations as well. Many programs suggest eliminating Protein Shakes once you are on your normal diet cause they are high calorie. Don't be discouraged - it's a marathon, not a race. [emoji5]

Give up the granola, and probably the yogurt and have dense Protein or a Protein Shake in the morning.
Give up the fruit until you have lost your weight. Fruit is still sugar, even if it is natural and comes with some Fiber.
Granola is a starch if it has oats in it.
The granola and fruit is probably slowing your weight loss, give it up for 2 weeks and see what happens.

Yes, the longer you have Type 2 Diabetes the more likely you will have high blood pressure, poor circulation in your legs, uncontrolled infections in different areas of the body, etc. Weight loss surgery helps you get your blood sugar back in contol. Just remember stay away from simple carbohydrates like bread, Pasta, rice, crackers, white potatoes, etc. The by-pass surgery is most effective for diabetics because if you eat sugar it causes you to feel very uncomfortable with perspiration and feeling shakey. My diabetes got much better, but has not completely gone away. That is because I have allowed simple sugars back into my life. I was sleeved June 28, 2016. So I am working to eliminate it again, but I have discovered that I have used simple sugars as a reward after I accomplish something or feel emotionally down. I am 62 also.

Hello! My name is Denise from California. I am 62 & waiting to see my surgeon hopefully in 2 wks. I'm having the sleeve. After seeing what my younger sister (50ish) & 40 yr old daughter experienced after having the sleeve I thought I would try loosing my weight naturally. I have been attending a Healthy Balance class afford by Kaiser since Dec. 2016 & have lost 10 lbs. Something I haven't been able to do in years after trying several diet plans. Anyway I saw my bariatric Dr. Who mentioned that since I was diabetic that having the surgery would be good for my health since it can bring my diabetes into remission. I was diagnosed with diabetes about 6 yrs ago. He said the longer I have this disease the more likely I can develop complications with my diabetes. Does any have any thoughts or suggestions on this matter? I would appreciate any feed back.

I am so with you. That is how I feel. I had the appetite of a lumberjack and now I can eat a small portion and I am fine. It is so awesome. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

a lot of people expressed to me dismay over cutting out a "perfectly healthy organ" but to me my system was not perfectly healthy. I was hungry all the time. it would take me 3 or 4 times the amount of food I should have been eating just to feel satisfied. I don't know - in time, science may reveal causes of obesity - but in the mean time I have to live and be as healthy as I can. the surgery gave me that
now my diabetes is GONE. and a normal child size portion satisfies me. completely satisfied. with a normal amount of food. I have never lost the weight before, and it feels wonderful all the changes in my body.
I can't say if it is right for you, but most of us only feel like we should have done it sooner. Keep searching your heart and see whether you are ready for this or not.

Also depression is often accompanied with isolating from friends or family and spending too much time thinking or ruminating on things that cause anxiety. Sometimes you have to take contol of your "head committees" and tell them to adjourn and go out for a walk.

What James said. A co-worker of mine that had the sleeve done last year said the same thing. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, as you burn the fat the Estrogen is released causing emotional ups and downs. I understand that a great way to respond to that is walking. While walking your body releases endorphins, the feel good hormones" that can improve your mood immediately.

I also make ice cream out of my Bariatric Advantage Protein powder with frozen berries and 8 Oz of vanilla light soy milk. That has been fabulous this summer. Still learning how to eat soft foods. Have to slow wayyyy down and pause during eating to watch out for too much air getting in. Burp until it eases. That part is no fun but part of the learning curve.

I have not lost as much weight this week, but I started eating more food and drinking the Protein Meal Replacement less. I also began walking more. I can tell my old bugaboos are still there. Carbs I have to be especially careful about. I think the crackers I have been eating is what is slowing the weight loss.
