How many calories are in premier Protein? I was only given a few Protein options as well. I wouldn't say this week was super rough but I have definitely had my moments. I had major nausea the day of surgery and have had significant pain in my incisions. Mainly I am just sooo sick of liquid Protein.
Sorry you are having such a hard time. Just remember that this is such a short time period in the scheme of things. And I will try and remember that as well.

I'm really glad I found this website so maybe I can find others who feel the same way.
I am about to be one week post op, and honestly, this week has been ROUGH.
When I was researching surgeries and getting myself excited, I went to people telling their stories via YouTube. So, when I started having a hard time, I went back to YouTube to check those same people's week one experience.
AND EVERYONE SAID IT WAS EASY?!
Maybe this was just my experience. I dont know. Maybe if anyone else wants to share their first week, I can see some more realistic points of view.
My pain level seemed to never go below a 7/10 at any given time until yesterday, when it didnt get bad until night time. This seemed to really bother me during my first two days where I was in the hospital, and the nurses didn't show up until a good 45 minutes after you called them. Maybe that adds to my sourness. My nurses were awful. I signed a waiver saying I wouldnt try to get out of bed without a nurse.....my nurses never came. I would call so I could go to the restroom, they wouldnt show. I would call to walk, they wouldnt show. My nurse even came in and taught me how to turn off the IV alarm after the second time it went off so i didnt have to keep calling her (which bothered me because, what if something was seriously wrong???? I feel like after I hit the call button my boyfriend shouldnt have to go out 30 minutes later when I'm in tears to physically go find my nurse)
When I got home, I was never hungry. That was nice. My surgeon gave me two specific types of Protein shake: nectar and Bariatric Advantage. They told me to start with Nectar because its thinner. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaated it. They all tasted like toothpaste and I was choking them down. I had no nausea switching to BA, but they were right, it was INCREDIBLY thick. I was doing them with 8oz coconut milk and 4-6 oz of Water just to the point where i didnt feel like I had to chew through them.
Today on day 6 is the first day I felt hungry. I think its because my family was making themselves my weakness today: grilled Peanut Butter sandwich. I almost want to drool typing it, I love peanut butter so much (LOL.)
I dont know why, but my emotions have been a train wreck this week. I broke down because I couldnt have peanut butter. I decided to try seeing if I've lost any weight to maybe boost my spirits, and yes, I've neared 15 pounds lost this week, but my "fat pants" I wore to the hospital are tight. I learned this is because of the swelling, but in my incredibly emotional state, the fact that I'm losing weight but my clothes arent filtting made me even more upset.
Pretty much, I've been emotionally upset, and I desperately want at least soft food. I've been counting down the days until I can have anything EXCEPT a Protein shake. (is that healthy to want food that bad?). And I've been hurting. Oh! I also have zero energy. I probably slept 20 hours a day those first two days after I was released from the hospital. That's made it rough to get all my fluids in.
I've hated this week. I've truly hated it. Did anyone else have a rough first week post op?

Why wouldn't it? If you have a maximum calorie limit then I would think that counts all calories.

I've always been overweight. I honestly thought it was normal when I was younger because my family was full of overweight people. Almost two years ago I lost an uncle to congestive heart failure. He was very overweight, had sleep apnea and other health problems. I'm overweight, have sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, and more. I've tried to lose weight many different ways but it never sticks. I finally got tired of feeling like I'm dying in my own body. Don't get me wrong I love myself but I don't love all of the extra weight. It's damaging my whole being. I was scared of the surgery but then I found out my aunt did it and since I've considered it, I've found so many helpful people that it makes the process seem simple. I know it's major surgery but I don't feel alone in the process with being able to reach out to so many people over the Internet. I'm new to the process so I have a few appointments to go but hopefully everything goes well!!

@@amysmara Please get some Protein Water or unflavored Protein Powder and mix with water - you will end up very ill if you don't get any nutrients. I would not wait until Friday to speak to your surgeon.

You're feeling weak and tired because you have zero Protein in your system. If you're on the clear liquid phase you CAN get protein in with your protein shakes. Just mix it with Water.< /p>

This getting approved thing is so annoying... It hard to mentally prepare for surgery when you don't know if you will get approved...

I have been overweight my entire adult life. While we were on vacation last year two things happened: 1) I saw a picture my Dad had taken of the family and I honestly didn't recognize myself and 2) I realized that I was missing out on everything with my family (playing on the beach, long walks, bike rides, etc). The week after we got back I made an appointment with my family doctor for a WLS referral.

I learned how safe the surgery actually is and decided I didn't want to die early. Simple as that!

I'm 42 and have been overweight most of my adult life. Hell...I was an overweight teen! Any who I decided that I was tired of being overweight and trying on my own. Obviously, I can't do it on my own! I don't have any other medical issues except for GERD and low back pain which was caused by a work accident but is made worse by my weight. I have always secretly wanted this surgery but never had looked into it until recently.

I'm in the same boat you are. I had no medical problems and felt like I was on borrowed time before I ended up with some medical problems. I'm 33 and decided that now is the time. I was sleeved on 3/7/16, and it was the best choice I ever made. I feel so much different and have so much more energy. I have lost a total of 76lbs!! It's not an easy journey, but one I know I can do!!

@autumnrileyarnold.... Did you ask why they suggested a banana? 14g of sugar from fruit is considered natural sugar as opposed to 14g of sugar from a cookie.. I would be more concerned it has zero Protein... Having it mushed into oatmeal would add Protein. Nutrition advice does not seem to be standardized, that's what I'm learning from reading on this forum...

I am looking forward to crossing my legs again. I am also looking forward to walking upstairs to my office without being winded. I can't wait to go shopping in my own closet. I have sizes ranging from 12 to 20 in there and I refuse to get rid of any of it. I WILL get rid of anything that is too big for me after surgery. I am looking forward to being able to tie my shoes and bend over and pick something off of the floor. I can't wait to take a picture and actually like it! Wow...I could go on and on about the things that I am looking forward to!

You really won't feel very hungry for a few months, but by your first month some easy digestible foods are Yogurt, scrambled eggs, shredded chicken, turkey with a broth (moist is the easiest to eat), Peanut Butter, Protein Shakes, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello. You basically will work on eating Protein and very little 2-3 ounces will fill you, I know it sounds crazy, but I am a year post mop and 4 ounces of chicken fills me up. Also remember natural sugars versus processed sugar foods are very different. I haven't had bananas yet. Remember the majority of weight you lose will be during the first 5-6 months and the. It really starts to slow down, so enjoy the not feeling hungry and just focus on Proteins, and keeping hydrated. I live on chickens, Powerade zero and coffee

There are so many things you can eat. My plan says Protein first - then produce. No bread, Pasta or rice. I can have omelets, crustless quiche muffins, Greek yogurt (watch sugar), protein smoothies (watch sugar), scrambled eggs, fruits, veggies, lean meats, tuna, salmon, baked fish, etc. The possibilities are endless. A banana would not be a good choice. You need to concentrate on protein.

Flying more comfortably, being able to zip line on vacation, play with my kids, run a 5k someday, stop needing my CPAP. Those are the big ones.
Day to day, it's about doing things more easily: shave my legs, cross my legs, get up and down off the floor, keep up with housework, etc.
Like you, clothes shopping is a huge one! I'm almost 2 weeks post op, so no need to yet, but I'm so excited! Also, I'm looking forward to cleaning out my closet and rediscovering old clothes that I out grew years ago.
