order al a cart, some places you can get just the protien portion or just a side item or combine a couple of those.

start trying some different Soups, may nit be what you want to hear but...
some things that my dic has o.k.ed that seem to really help me are creamy potatoe Soup seasoned well. make mashed potatoes and thin it out with milk or broth until it is a soup... makes you feel like your eating something good!
refried bean soup.... thin them out with broth add some taco sauce, yum!
just start thinking out side the box on what types of soup you can blend and strain that will do well. the more different flavors i can add the better i do and the more satisfied i feel! you can do it!!!

So laying in bed last night with hubby. He was looking through his old phone that he uses as an alarm clock,. He found a picture of me from about 2 years ago, at the height of my obesity. He asked me if I remembered the picture. I looked so bad, it really made me sad to know i let myself get to look like that. My face and body was unrecognizable to me. I honestly didn't realize at first that it was me. I realized it really was me when I recognized the outfit I was wearing. I may not be where I need to be, but I thank God I'm not where I was. I don't run from cameras anymore...I don't seek them out, but at least I'm not avoiding them now either. So even though it bummed me out...I'll take it as a victory.

9 1/2 months post op. I get up, pee (hey, Water is heavy!), and weigh myself. It is a number, only a number. It is the same as tracking Protein or Fluid, it's a tool. The best gauge is how you FEEL. If you don't have a healthy relationship with your scale, ask yourself why that is, and then see if you can do something about that. This ENTIRE process is not just about losing excess weight!

heather0407 reacted to Bufflehead in How soon where you told you can have soft solids?
I had to wait two months. Did I like it? No. But I sucked it up and followed my doctor's orders. I had to tell myself over and over again that as much as I might think I know better than my bariatric team:
    1. They've guided literally thousands of people from morbid obesity to healthy weight;
    2. They have many advanced degrees and decades of experience between them in bariatric surgery, recovery, eating plans, and exercise
    3. I was in charge of one person's nutrition and health (mine) and that person ended up morbidly obese and needing bariatric surgery
    4. I have no advanced degrees or years of experience in bariatric practice
ergo, I need to tell myself to shut up and listen to the people I trusted to perform major surgery on me and guide me to better health. Thinking I knew best and listening to my own advice didn't work out so well before.

Hi David. This reminds me of a friend who, within a week of getting gastric bypass surgery, was diagnosed with ALL (bone marrow cancer). We know that the surgery did not cause him to have cancer, but we do feel the surgery caused his body to be weak and stressed, and the symptoms of his disease ALL to come out.... so perhaps that is the case with you. Maybe you already had an autoimmune disease, and the lapband surgery just caused the symptoms to come out sooner? Just a thought. I hope you figure out what's going on soon, so you can feel better.

Comparing yourself to others is a recipe for frustration and misery. I know it's really hard to get your head around in the early days post-op, but your sleeve is forever. You will never be "done" with it like the diets of your past. I promise you that 10 years from now, when you are happy and healthy and maintaining your weight, how much you lost in the first month post-op will mean jack squat.

I have tried them and they do give temporary tightening. It doesn't last long and they are expensive. But helped me look better in a dress I had to wear for a wedding. This pre op when I was pretty heavy.

I'm a Southerner as well. Girl, the struggle is real. Most all of the food I love is a thing of the past. Grits, fried chicken and the love of my life, sweet tea. Sigh.
Anyway, one thing I've found that gives me a lil taste of home is a sawmill gravy packet (the one you just add Water to) and Jimmy Dean Turkey sausage crumble. I put a small amount of the sausage in a Pyrex custard cup and top with about a Tbsp of gravy. The powder mix is actually not bad for carbs plus you only need a small amount anyway.
Also, sweet tea with Truvia and all of the recipes at http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/p/links-resources.html?m=1
Shelly has AMAZING ideas for great food, plus check out the food and nutrition forum here at bariatric pal. I just tried the pumpkin pie cheesecake pudding. So yum!!!

sometimes you need a quick snack and something that is going to not give you anh problems. these yogurt bites seem like they would be good for that. a grab and go snack. definitely not something you would want on your menu every day but good occasionally

SOTFS until you are at least three months out. The scale numbers mean exactly jack shit at this point. The only numbers you need to be worrying about are grams of Protein and ounces of Water. And if you are getting enough of each, you likely will have no room for carbs anyways.

Relax.....focusing on a measly one pound will drive you nuts. Focusing on constantly weighing yourself will drive you nuts too....... I mean.........water weighs 8 lbs a gallon. And you are supposed to drink lots and lots of Water.
One thing you can count on from us Vets....we got the benefit of "time" to relate to. So.....all you gotta do is stick with the program and give it some time. (and stay away from that scale.)

From my experience I'm being more cautious about who I tell. I had the lap band 6 years ago and lost about 30 pounds (from 192 to 162). I was very happy with the results but everyone else I knew (especially my father in law) would ask me how I felt about getting something that didn't work. Uhhhhh.... It did work. I was happy. Anywhoo the band broke and I regained (up to 177) and got the sleeve. I'm keeping my mouth shut because God forbid I don't get down to a preteen size I'm sure those people are going to comment AGAIN. I have no aspirations of being the size of a preteen. I want to be able to play tennis with my family again without huffing all around the court. I may use this, I read it on a board the other day... "Oh my weight loss? How? Acupuncture and hypnosis". I'm practicing saying it in the mirror with a straight face. Good luck to all, chins up, don't let the silly comments ruin any of your journey. (Now if I can just heed my own advice... ;) )

its not always about shame... but the fact that its just not anyones business. i dont want to talk about it all the time.
u dont want anyone to lessen the hard work that i have done using my tool with, "yeah she lost xx pounds, but she had lapband... so she didnt really have to do anything"
we have all gone a very long time being judged for our weight, being judged for how we lose it is just not necessary
