My favorite snack pre surgery was Tomato cucumber and lemon juice. I could eat it every night with chopsticks. I will try this once I am able to stomach cucumbers! Thank you.

@@Kooky1 - so sorry to hear about your Grandmother, what a great life - 103.
Stay focused on your plan and you know your coping mechanism (food). Was there something you two liked to do together, non food related? Honor her memory by staying your course.
If you slip, then pick yourself up and get back on track. Most of us have done that, fallen off, crawled back up in the saddle...
She would want you to continue on working towards being healthier l am sure.

I am so sorry for your loss. Take this time to Celebrate YOUR new path to health. You've taken a huge step to ensure that you will live a longer and healthier life and I do believe that your grandmother's spirit will live on with you as you lose the weight and regain the years you would have lost as an obese person.

Walk, zumba, sing, dance, Celebrate who she was ans who she always will be in your life. You don't need food to do that.
    Hugs.

I just started up at the gym and was dreading going. I was sure people would be staring at me as I am so out of shape and poor cardio. I have been doing the treadmill and am so focused on my audio book I barely notice anyone around me. I started with a personal trainer and there are these guys and 1 girl who always seem to be doing powerlifting right in front of where I have my training. Doesn't matter the day or time they are always there. Now they smile at me and when I do something particularly challenging they smile and nod at me. It's a nice feeling. The other day my trainer had me push a 50lb sleigh with an additional 50 pounds up the pathway and back 6 times. And I about passed out it was so challenging and the powerlifting crew actually cheered when I finished it. Kind of embarrassing , but kind of cool too.
So bottom line, just bite the bullet and go, start slow and feel good that you are starting a positive habit In your life!

I'm finally seeing a difference in my body! I'm 3 months post-op as of today and I'm down 74 lbs. I'm staring to feel "normal" again and I'm loving it. I took a picture this weekend and was finally able to see some of my progress. We have to Celebrate all along the way!

@@FabFatFish ... thank you for the ASMBS link. It's chock full of information I'd missed finding on ASMBS's site before.
Seriously, folks -- whether you're pre-op or even long-term post-op, if you haven't read all this information you really should. Much of the information there describes the issues everyone grapples with during weight loss and weight maintenance.
    Thanks again.

Hi, had eval last week. Have been on time released Welbutrin for over a year. Shrink asked if I thought it was helping. Answered yes. He told me I have to change to a non time release due to sleeve. So what I can say being a person who suffers from addiction who is currently clean. I never put Psychotropics in a class of addiction but something to help me step to the next level like from the fog to the light if you will. Certainly we cannot lump individual experiences into one. To reveal I was sexually molested as a child. Mommy issues and turned to food. Which later led into a host of other bad choices including poor choices in men. One of which who committed suicide. Not just talking out of my you know where just keeping it real. Be honest, accept the help even if it delays your surgery date. It may end up being the catalysis you need to get something even greater. Good luck! You are where you are meant to be in this journey. You are not alone. Hang in there!

I know it is hard to open up to other people, but it really helps.
You may even want to see if you can find a grief support group. I attended grief counseling through my church and found it helpful. I just noticed a posting for a grief support group through our local wellness center.

Whitneymc, I too suffered from depression. I lost my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and father in law in a short time frame. I was suicidal. I got help from my psychiatrist and am now considered in remission. She did my psych evaluation and it was fine. I would be worried if you didn't address the depression. It could rear its ugly head after the surgery. If you are already in a bad place and have surgery, it might send you further into the black hole.
I have been great for 4 years but I still plan on increasing my psychiatrist visits a little bit after surgery to stay on the right track.
I don't know if you believe in prayer but I will be praying for you!
