  1. Thanks
plain got a reaction from NettyD in Am i the only one having problems with this diet plan???
Well ms, for me... there was no way to really do it but to "suck it up and carry on". I did find that the higher content Protein Shakes seemed to help me feel more full, though. I know it sucks, but remember, the preop diet is really for your safety (to shrink the fat deposits around the liver, thereby minimizing the risk of a tear). Good luck, and hand in there.

No suggestions. Just this: You pro-fellatio women are the salt of the Earth! Now back to snooping on the ladies' board without posting...

plain got a reaction from HotButterFly in Why would first BF contact me after so many years?
Because sometimes it works. I had a friend in college that would straight up just start asking girls for sex. When I called him on it, he explained that it was a numbers game. Even if he got turned down 99% of the time, asking 1000 girls got him sex with 10 (I just threw the stat in to clarify my point...he wasn't smart enough to give me numbers, lol). Most of the times I was his wingman, he got turned down (and sometimes slapped) with this approach, but you know what? He still scored more than I did.

Hi brent. Sorry you had such a crappy experience. I myself work in a sleep center, and can tell you that sleep labs are kind of like mechanics.....some are very good, and some are only out to make a buck.
Very few of my patients come in because they're seeking gastric banding surgery, so maybe that's the difference? I will tell you that Oxygen saturation levels don't mean you have sleep apnea or not...that's a load of bunk.

Uh, so I'm not trying to be the token dude buttinski, but this guy is sounding more and more like a jerk. He actually sounds like he's getting off (to paraphrase a Cheap Trick song) by wanting you to want him. Like, he needs you to perform these oddly pseudo-intimate tasks (let me eat dinner out of your fridge ?!? wake me up?!? c'mon, dude...), but then acts all chaste.

Yeah, bux, they're all telling you the truth.
I had a two week pre-op liquid diet, to shrink the liver before surgery, and was pretty accustomed to it by the time of surgery. In the post-op period, I was a little knocked down, but as Wendy says, that was more of a medication thing than an intake issue.
But DO pay attention to your Protein intake! Try to get in about 80 g of Protein a day - you're a big guy (not as big as me, starting weight 473 lbs, he said proudly), and you need your protein. In the early stages, this is going to mean Protein drinks - you'll find it hard to take in your full liquid allotment each day. Go slow with your drinking, make sure you constantly have Water. I think it's worth investing in a dozen or so Isopure clear Protein Drinks, the Zero Carb kind which are available from health stores (I get mine from GNC, which is national, I think). They're not cheap - I pay $3.50, but you get 40 g protein in 20 oz Fluid, which is a good deal.
But you'll be fine. And Michael's right - you just feel better and better.
The other cool thing about the liquid diet period? You lose a HECK of a lot really quickly.
Finally, you didn't mention any nerves or whatever, but all of us felt a bit nervous going into it. It really DOES happen in the blink of an eye - one minute you're awake and talking to the anesthetist, the next minute you're awake and banded. Most of us lads have had minimal discomfort - I think we've all been surprised by how Not Bad At All it was.
Afterwards, come back here and ask questions, vent, chat, tell us how you're doing...

I think I still do. I'll look and see. I believe it went something like Clear Liquids for a week, then creamy liquids for a week, mushies for like 2 weeks, then soft foods for a week. I think it times out that you should be starting on real foods right before you go in for your first fill (about six weeks post op). That's how it went for me. Perhaps others have a more detailed memory?

plain got a reaction from WASaBubbleButt in Why are people afraid of atheism?
Wow, everybody has been busy lil' beavers posting over the weekend. It takes me a little bit of time to play catchup, Wasa, because I rarely peruse and post on this board on the weekends. Kids trying to hog all my time, dontyaknow. But I will attempt to answer all your previous posts.
I didn't really think you'd be afraid of me per se.....you just said something like "Damn right we're afraid of Christinas", and I am a Christian, so I was just applying the statement to its logical end.
I think we're getting wires crossed on the ACLU thing. I don't want specific religious prayer in school (for the reasons you've mentioned), but I see nothing wrong with a moment of silence, which is what the Ill case centers on. Why would the ACLU fight a moment of silence? Why did they in Va. when that state tried to pass a "moment of silence" law (that's the one that went to the supreme court.....oh, I can post links if you want)? And why has the ACLU not filed a brief on the Muslim public school in NY?
I don't even want creationism taught in public school, McMadam. But I don't want evolution or the big bang theory taught as a fact, either, since they're both only theories, as is creationism. What my ideal teacher would say, basically, is "that as of right now, many scientists believe X, or that the evidence supports Y....but some people believe that the universe was created by a higher power. But since this is school and not church, we'll focus on X and Y". See, I don't mind if a teacher doesn't teach creationism, as long as she doesn't mock it in front of the class. Again, I don't see all the fuss there, as long as both sides are mentioned fairly.
And, I've taken away some education from here. I thought that atheists didn't believe in the concept of a higher power (and therefore an afterlife) in any way, shape, or form. This is kind of a hot button issue, and I would remind my fellow Christians to try and temper their passion a little ('cause we're not going to change somebody's mind on the R&R forum of LBT).

I was wondering the same thing when the comment was made about "slider foods". Nothing but pure willpower is going to keep you from eating just about anything you want; thus the term "tool" being used when referring to Lap Band.
I am seeing this mentality on several other boards on the internet. People seem to think that once you have WLS, BOOM! You wake up and don't want to eat anymore and become thin. Too bad it isn't that simple. The work never ends!!

Hi everybody. Amy got back in touch with me today. She said that she was not entirely familiar with the test tube Protein issue, and wanted me to bring her a sample to look at. So, next time I have a "lull" in my sleep lab schedule, I'll bring her a sample. She went on to say that whole food Proteins are the best, and whey protein is probably the next best thing to whole. It made the issue as clear as mud.......maybe it'll help some of y'all. When I can bring her some Liquid Protein, I'll let everybody know what she says about it.

I think there's a line we tread as women, as American woman (pardon me other women, but speaking from my own experience here to my yankee sisters) who are or have been of size, between fat acceptance and a desire to not be fat.
Certainly there's a place for advocacy for fat people. We/they are not any less human because of our/their size. Treating someone as less than because they are different isn't okay on any level. But it's still considered reasonable to treat fat folk badly.
We question fat folk advocating for themselves and we question them laughing at their own pain. It's institutionalized to the point that a self loathing fat person thinks they deserve to hate themself and they deserve the scorn of others.
I don't have the answer...but talking about bad media, pizza Hut had a commercial where the baby sitter was ordering pizzas on the phone and the chubby boy walked in and she said, "Better add to the order."
Because he obviously was going to eat vastly more than what she had ordered.
I called the company and complained. Didn't get very far, but I feel better for it.
