Some people, I swear...

Recommended Posts

I swear to god that some people are idiots. I almost feel bad for tearing that guy a new a-hole, but seriously, come on. If you're from hollywood, working in a studio and you come in here fully anti-band because some "incompetent doctor" tried to do your surgery and found a way to screw it up, don't make yourself sound like a Greenpeace activist in the weight loss surgery wing. I just don't see the need to come in here and stir crap up when we're more of a support group than anything else. Ignoring the fact that it sounded like bullshit to begin with. :crying::cursing::smile::cursing::lol::cursing::eek:

Sorry, I just hate stupid people who think the world owes them something. I needed to get that out. Sorry sorry. :crying:

I wondered that too, so I did a quick post search on Neveragain and looked at the most recent threads he posted to and I have a feeling he is referencing http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/hi-everyone-i-think-i-ll-contrarian-voice-here-58983/

Neveragain, hope you don't mind me posting the thread I think you are referring to and I do have to agree - I smell bullshit there too.

It really pissed me off, and I DO feel bad IF he's going through all that, but something isn't adding up right.

Hah hah, I just found it right before I came to check back here and make sure it was the same one.

Ok, here's the first thing that struck me odd.....

Last year, he performed over 600 Bariatric surgeries. MANY of them were Lap Band REPAIRS. He is the "go-to" guy for Lap Band mishaps.

Now if this guy is really the 'go-to' guy for lap band mishaps, and only some portion of 600 were Lap Band repairs, that is actually a really small statistic. And that doesn't mean they were Lap Band removals. Hell, I had a Lap Band 'repair'. Just means my port sucks and I have bad luck, but it was fixed and I'm not a candidate to sue anyone over it, and I consider myself a Lap Band success.

Haven't finished reading the thread, but I will likely have a foot-in-mouth response.

---

Or maybe not, I think there's a hidden agenda there, and don't want to indulge.

I'm so happy that you guys feel the same way. I was starting to feel bad there for a minute. haha.

I just LOATHE people who say that kind of crap. He's missing a lot of stuff. He doesn't mention who the doctor was or HALF of what he claims is sooooo poor. Not to mention, his anatomy is screwed up for someone who has done "extensive research considering the subject". Among MANY other things that drive me up the wall. haha. Moron.

What really got me was the statement he made about in 4 to 5 years this doctor thought they are going to pull it...blah, blah, blah. IF it were such a hazzard WHY was it approved to begin with AND why would it take 4 to 5 years to pull? Sounds like his surgeon was incompetant...I knew the risk going into this, did my research and have no regrets!

Even IF this all happened to him, he did it to himself (I think) because he talks about eating around it in week one.

Did he follow his doctor's orders? I'm guessing: NO. And, posting it here is silly if he's suing. It's a good argument in favor of the doctor/band distributor.

Well anyone know top of head how long RnY has been around? RnY is statistically much more dangerous than lap band. They didn't pull that!

His surgeon may or may not have been at fault, but he mentioned, though he glossed over it, that he was having multiple shakes, and mashed potatoes and all kinds of shoving food in at a WEEK out!!! HIS fault, not necessarily the surgeons.

Plus the quote Fairy Laura pulled up---he says over 600 repairs or some such crap, but later when questioned about if they are so bad why is the Dr. still doing them---then the poster didn't know for sure he was. He knows everything the Dr. does---when it is convenient for his story!!!

I did my best to voice my disbelief while not being a bitch, and making the battle between the 2 of us.

I agree with the later poster who said she is waiting to get the sales pitch.....that he was gonna tell us all about later---how to do this without the band... Buy it from me, I am so good, I only had to almost die to learn!!! Sorry, now I Am being a bitch!!! I'll quit!!!

I have thought about it, I bet his sales pitch will be.. from the propaganda he's talking about.. a week from now he will go "This is so and so's lawyer, I am now representing people who have lap band, please contact me, I can make you $$!"

And it's really just that guy, who decided to try to feed people all this info about lawsuits, and how dangerous it is, etc.. and wants to try to make some quick bucks.

I thought the lawsuit thing was weird, has anyone seen commercials for lap band lawsuits? I sure haven't.

So silly.

I reckon its GeezerSue in disguise!

About the only thing I agree with is that there ARE a lot of surgeons getting on the bandwagon so to speak. Bariatric surgery sure is a moneymaker now and there's a lot of doctors out there that are doing them to make money, not becuase they give a rats about the plight of the obese.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
