That isn't being graphic. Being graphic is describing the taste coming up, the feeling as it shot from your body, the smell of the vomit, comparison of the color to that of 70's shag carpet, explaining the size of the chunks, giving us the distance of the projection and finally how hard it was to clean it up after it hit your cat but your dog helped with some of the clean up by eating most of it.No sir, your standards are too low. You're going to have to try harder next time.

    I'm six years out.
It took me a year and a half to lose 107 pounds, now I'm down 124 pounds from my surgery weight. I was a slow loser, and it was a frustrating process at times.
I had a child post op, and lost that weight, too.
I do not fear regain. I'm so small now that I work to keep weight on. I'm still not hungry. Emotionally, it was a difficult adjustment. It took a few years to realize I was normal. I've been in therapy for a long time. I had a lot of issues to work on, and depression set in when I had to acknowledge that it wasn't my weight that had been making me unhappy - my weight was a sign of my unhappiness. But I'm in a much, much better place now than I've ever been, mentally and physically. I was finally diagnosed with mental problems I'd been suffering from my whole life. I never would have gotten help, because I'd been medicating with food and alcohol. When my sleeve took the ability to do that away, I had no choice but to reach out.
As for what I wish I'd known? I'm on B12 and a PPI. No biggie, but I had no idea they'd be forever. My diabetes is gone, so I consider it a win!
I just turned 36, and I feel like I got a chance to live a life due to my surgery. I'd never, ever take it back.

I am about to have to throw out all of my regular bras, as I've lost enough that they're gapping and not fitting well. I'm moving to Genie-style bras for most of the time, and will probably get one new underwire bra each time I have to re-size. I have been very impressed with the new Jockey fit system. I got it for my teenage daughter, and she said it's the most comfortable bra she's ever worn. The sizing pack ships with a tape measure to determine the band size, and then a set of silicone cups to see what cup size fits best. It doesn't follow the normal sizing because it takes into account how the volume is distributed. You have to buy the sizing pack, but they send a coupon for that amount off of your first bra order.

I'm lazy! I make my regular meatballs, stick my thumb in, push in 1/4 of a cheese stick and reseal.
Oh! And use oatmeal instead of panko (which I love) for added grains and Fiber.

I had a very similar pre op. 4 Protein shakes a day 6 servings of : yogurt, applesauce, sf pudding, oatmeal, v8 juice. Then unlimited non starchy veggies and 80 Oz fluids. As far as gas pains go I had some of the worst. They got stuck in my ribs and didn't want to move. I am now dealing with some major back pain that has sidelined me the last 2 days. I'm 4 weeks post op
As far as hunger goes I'm dealing with a lot of head hunger and wanting to push myself faster to healing. I've been allowed to resume working out slowly. But I have to consume more than 800 calories a day to workout. With the pain I'm not getting in nearly as much as I need.

spdmonkeymama got a reaction from BigJohn58 in Help I went in for my initial consultation and wanted the Gastric Sleeve the doctor suggested the Duodenal switch surgery
Okay I'm not going to read all 53 replies but I wanted to give you insight into what my surgeon told my father. 5'11 420lbs age 63 type 2 diabetic for 30 years on insulin pump extremely insulin resistant. Cardiac history.
He wants the sleeve because he is afraid of the issues with absorbing nutritions. When we saw the surgeon (my surgeon as well and I just had rny 9/26) he told us about a 2 part switch.
Basically he wants my dad to do the sleeve then in 18 months have the option for the DS. Some surgeons do it as 1 procedure but he does not. He wants the patient to have 18 months to lose about 100 pounds with the sleeve or more than look at having the 2nd part.
This is how my Dad looks at it. By the time he has the sleeve he will be 64. He isn't sure at 66 he will want to have another major surgery but is willing to do the work for the sleeve in those 2 years and decide then.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Maulmomma,
It is a natural response to a life changing event like bariatric surgery. I also have degenerative back disorder and fibromyalgia and a long list of other stuff that I wont go into right now. The most important thing is that you are doing the surgery for your own benefit. My doctor was so supportive and emphasised that it is only a tool for a healthier life style. And our goal is that I have a better more healthy life when looking at the next 20 years than the last 20 years. You will struggle. It is a committment, and it takes want and need on our part. Your life will change. If like me you and your significant other spend your quality time eating at a restaurant or out with friends, you will be looking of new hobbies. This eating out was not a healthy choice for me or the only choice, but I had to find other outlets and cultivating the artistic side, gardener, animal lover was hard. Make sure that your support person(s) are understanding of your new situation and be open with them.
I had an modified Roux-n-y with a gastrectomy done October 28, 12015. My body is the poster child for if it can happen or have a negative response it will happen, even with the best surgeon some repairs may be needed after initial surgery which is why a support system of friends and/or family is important. I was released from the hospital on December 1, 2015 and on tube feeding due to my own bodies response to having a double hernia and collapsed lung which were found and repaired during bariatric surgery.
I have been doing better at eating real food with less nausea and dumping symdrome over the last 2 months but I had a secondary hernia (2x), fixed because of trying to overdo weight limits and not listening to my own body when I wanted to do too much. So listen, listen and listen to your surgeon.
Happy news this morning I have lost a total of 145 lbs and went from 285 to 140lbs and from a size 24b into a size 8 or small clothing. I have more energy and less migranes, less fatique (still some). It took years for us to become heavy people so dont expect overnight success. Only weigh yourself once a week and look inward to the things you have always wanted to pursue. It has saved my life and given me time to relook at who and what I want to really focus on.
    I hope this helps you
