one of the things I love about BP is that it is not "overmoderated" I have left other groups due to the fact that you couldn't have a decent debate on a topic (and there *are* some sticky wickets with this WLS process worthy of a hearty debate) without being asked to only say nice things.
I just don't think I am capable! although I do for the most part know how to behave in public - I don't want to be all "nice" all the time.
Be thankful for the ignore ability. it takes a lot for me to put someone on ignore. but It would be a shame for anyone to leave this forum because there was a group of people they didn't like. just ignore them officially if you can't just pass them by and go sit by the people you like! I promise you will learn a lot more than if everyone in a group was just like you or their plan was just like yours.
and, I will always give anyone the grace to correct or clarify themselves because there are times when any of us does not come across well online. or in person. yeesh. and some people will only make it worse when they try to clarify! but the truly awful ones, who you think might be trolls? they don't usually even come back to the drama they started.
we who are newer have a lot to learn from the veterans. they've tried all the recommendations and they are living it out one messy day after another. with varying degrees of success. but recommendations and plans change over time. the practice I used? what they recommend now has had some changes from when I went through early this year. so the vets have a lot to learn from the newer folk too about what the practices are thinking now. I hope we can all continue to hang together.
end of the day - to make a friend, be a friend.

A 1,400 calorie hunk of meat with 100 grams of fat was consumed with dinner along with whatever else.
At this point I'd not care about how to tell your surgeon.......id simply set up the appointment and throw it out there to him.
Conversations, coaching, plans moving forward need to be made.
Part of those conversations damn well should be about willpower and developing the skills that will enable you to live well by making healthy choices.

Glad to see you taking this all in and getting your gameplan together for when you have your own WLS .
It is all about personal accountability, effort and discipline. None of these three can be lacking even after the sleeve tool is in place.
If we play stupid games we will win stupid prizes. Bottom line.
I know I've had my share of weak moments, but I have been able, thus far, to make them short lived and to learn from them.
You appear to be doing your homework now......beforehand. It will help you make the most out of things later on.
Some folks just don't seem to get it, though. They expect the WLS to do all the work and it will not.

Wait a minute. You say here you are certain that your surgeon "screwed up" and further, you are sure you know why. Because you've "tested" your sleeve, even before you knew you should have.
How specific were your surgeon's postop guidelines concerning volume and over that timeframe?
Were you directed to eat not more than specific amounts? Did you follow those recommendations? Did you tell your surgeon that you'd "tested" your capacity against that of relatives who were further out?
And why, in the name of all we hold dear, did you put an entire 20-oz steak on your plate in the first place? Were you not taught the things we all have - small plates, small volumes, chewing throughly, eating slowly?
You put a 20-oz steak on your plate, eat it, and have the nerve to say your surgeon "screwed up"?
Time for some ownership of your choices. You definitely should talk with your surgeon, and soon - but try listening, rather than jumping to conclusions. I was never banded, so I can't say anything from personal experience about the band-to-sleeve surgery. but undoubtedly your surgeon has information that you need. Ask. Don't tell, ask.

Thanks for bringing attention to this problem... I guess I've been on here about six weeks... The sarcastic and rude comments I find are attention seeking on behalf of those who write them. Those kind of comments shut down the conversation of the thread and defeat the information sharing that could unfold on a threat. This is a forum for adults, it's simple to say we agree to disagree and let it be... Odd too how once they create drama, they go off and create threads about more positive topics... I feel on this forum we need to show extra sensitivity as the surgical process and the changes it brings has people a somewhat stressed to begin with...
It's not what you say it how you say it, points can be expressed with sensitivity and kindness.

lol, you should go back and read some of my earlier posts. My attitude wasn't so well received in the beginning. As for the men supporting each other, I know I have made that my focus on this forum. We men in general tend to be a competitive sort for all the wrong reasons. Here on this forum, we all have one common goal. Not to get buff or get larger muscles, but just to be healthier in general. If I can encourage other men or show them that there is hope, I feel as though I am contributing. Then, when I am having a down day or feeling off my game, they will most likely step up and do the same for me.

While I agree it's against the law for her to ask you as the boss, sounds like you two have a friendly rapport as you stated you wanted to tell her but didn't do to your other drama... I feel she was asking as more of your friend and out of concern. Us women always want to know the 411 we can't help it.

I don't know if I am considered a vet or long time member yet, but I can relate to some of them. I have only been a member of this board for a little over a year. The number 1 thing I see that brings out the negative comments from veteran members though is newbies asking questions that have obvious answers that could be answered by either looking at a few threads only a couple of weeks old or using the search feature. Threads like:
Soda/Pop consumption Stalls at only X weeks out Can I eat pizza? Can I drink beer? I've eaten half a deer carcass and I don't feel full I don't want to read the literature my surgeon gave me and I am too lazy to call them so I will ask the question here just like a hundred other people that have done the same. Drama queens/kings and pity partiers that don't want to change and are only looking for justification for not changing their lifestyle. In those cases, when you see them over and over and over, it's hard to either take them seriously or not be jaded. Then there are the people that create profiles merely to spam or cause uproars. Me personally, I just avoid posting for the most part. I did not join for support rather I joined for information. I have made friends with a couple and as a consequence found support, but that was a lucky result of my contribution to the forums.
My advice, get what you need and ignore the rest.

I agree with you. I totally understand that it is sometimes frustrating with folks ask questions that those of us that have been around for any length of time have seen over and over......but I don't believe those posts should prompt a sarcastic post from a vet.....just don't comment and the original poster will either get their answer from someone else or they will find it by researching on their own......there is never a need to be sarcastic to someone who is asking a question...
Don't get me wrong there have been many posts that I've read and am very grateful the original poster can't hear my thoughts!!! haha...............but I'm a nice enough person that I'm going to either not respond to their post, or I'm going to be thoughtful when I do post and use the golden rule of "Do unto others as you'd have done to you"....just pure human kindness.

I completely get what you are saying and you said it very well.
I do just want to say this as a newbie.... It took me several weeks to find the different threads- I view this site from my iPhone and always clicked timeline. I think it's how I wound up responding to a picture you had posted- it was wonderful and so motivational but I almost died a few days later when I realized it was posted on a guys thread! Ahhhh!!!
I finally figured out that different sections because people mentioned them in their posts (for example since this is the rant and rave section I will post this rant here) and a lightbulb went off. Until then I probably was guilty of asking basic questions because I simply didn't know separate sections existed.
For the most part I have found the advice of veterans to be amazing. I see them as true educators and admire the time they spend responding to specifics. If I don't agree with something I just skip it. My biggest pet peeve is when someone just says "Ask your Nut". I could go on about that for several reasons but it's another topic.
I'm not on any other social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) so I'm still learning how to navigate the online community. Some days are harder than others but I'm learning every day!
Btw BigViffer I really enjoy it when you do post. Your transformation and attitude are great. I love how the men support each other. Keep posting and take care!

I asked my NUT about this and she strongly advised against starting with Protein drinks pre-op. She said you have to rely on them post-op and it's easy to get sick of them fast so to get Protein from real food.
I'm a month away from surgery and I've been trying to change my habits as well- low low carb, high protein foods. But I have also made the occasional "green smoothie" which is NOT low carb and added in protein powder- because I like them!

I think before you make a statement like that to the surgeon, your going to need some medical evidence to back it up... I'm not sure he will even engage you in this conversation because if you can show evidence he screwed up that would be a malpractice lawsuit... Have you lost any weight from having the sleeve?

I personally only agree with Protein bars as a last resort, they are processed protein/food... My plan discourages shakes after week 3 post op... I personally like that idea, the world is full of food and we have to learn to make good choice from the options surrounding us... After surgery your also retraining your stomach, that happens best with food... I know any Protein is better than no protein but in the pre op mode your not going to have any eating restrictions that would cause certain food to be a problem etc...
