I have PCOS as well and never had success on any diet. I am on metformin 1000mg a day. We also adopted a baby boy in 2014.
I am about a month into this whole process. ???? Just had my psych eval and it went well. Hope to be sleeved in 3 months or so.
Trying to find better Breakfast solutions. Tried doing a smoothie this morning with almond milk, spinach, banana, mango, and kiwi. I used too much spinach so it tastes like a salad.

Very true. I feel like I got diagnosed late which was only March 25, 2016. I've had years of irregular cycles, and been on birth control for at least 20 years or so until I had my son in 2008. I am now 36.
Dr's would say its just fibroids. All in all they finally saw the cysts about 2 weeks ago. So, I got my tubes tied on March 29th 2016 and will be done with birth control for ever. Using depo as a backup. Depo shot should wear off in three months, I hope.
I may go ahead and give my body a break for a while and I hope to get sleeved before end of this year or when I've gotten a good grasp on low carb lifestyle.

My surgeon suggested sleeve instead of band (my original choice). He said that 50-60% of band patients have to have secondary surgeries due to complications. He also said they take out more bands than they put in these days. They are a very reputable and have been doing bariatric surgery for over 20 years. I would get a second opinion.

My NUT gave me a list of good Protein drinks. Be careful of the sugar content in some. Here's a few recommendations...MetRx Original Meal Replacement
Bariatric fusion Meal Replacement (gave me a sample but haven't tried it yet)
    Nitro-Peak 50x
    Isopure
Look for "Isolate" supplements. Avoid Casein Protein and collagen Protein.

You should go to a Bariatric Program that includes Nutritionist, Psych/Social Workers and a reputable surgeon. WLS isn't for everyone. If you have a BMI under 40 it's only recommended if you have comorbities. Go to an informational session and get more information to make the best decision for you. You should have the support of your PCP and if you don't have a good relationship with them - find another. My PCP encouraged surgery but I had already tried everything else including WW. She knew (better than I did) that I needed a tool to help me eat less and of course has always encouraged exercise. She knows my history and current health status and I will need her support.

    Monie,
You will get the joy of not worrying about whether or not you will fit in that tiny seat in the theater, or whether people will comment on your size, or whether you will be able to find that outfit you like in your size.
Ooooo, you meant in a similar vein to what we guys are talking about? From what I see the women discussing, you will be able to see parts of your body "down there" that you had long ago given up hope of ever seeing again. You might even be able to groom them like you always wanted to now. You will find your time in bed more fun, without the great exertion that came with moving our larger bodies around. Your body parts overall will shrink and be more manageable.
And one last thing.....if your partner is smaller than you (Like my ex was), gone will be the ever present fear of climbing on top of them and leaving them look like Judge Doom at the end of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (He got the steamroller).
    How's that?

Love this!!! Finally a lighter side. Hey Steph, give me 6 months and I'll be in touch:) However I'm still just an average white guy so I probably wouldn't be expecting any "Magnum" size finds.

You calling me judgmental and "holier-than-thou" is the only ridicule I see going on in this thread. Someone talked about "cheating" post-op. I explained how TO ME "cheating" post-op is nothing like "cheating" on a diet, because it poses immediate risk to one's life. That was all that happened. Go back and re-read my posts. Where was I judging anyone? Where was I ridiculing anyone?

Where did I ridicule or mock anyone in this thread? I simply said that *I* could not understand it. I didn't call anyone names. Didn't say anyone was stupid or wrong. I just said I couldn't understand it.
I explained MY way of thinking. Didn't criticize anyone else's way of thinking.

You fool! A male only picture thread?! This forum can't repel testosterone of that magnitude! All the women are going to start creeping this thread looking for their daily dose of beefcake.
I actually do like the idea of a Men's Picture thread. On the others it tends to turn into "Here is my new outfit and latest duckface pic" I am 2lbs away from my first goal. I will post my first picture here for that occasion!

It was a surprise to me too.. a huge surprise, in my pants, a few times
The best advice someone gave me was never trust a fart. I am 6 months out and still have to be cautious.
It will get a lot better. It will start to get better when you are eating solids again, just try to be patient. I was the same as you and sometimes had to shower a few times a day just to feel clean.
Right now I was say go ahead and take the Imodium. If you are nervous about it you can always cut it in half and just take half now and if that doesn't help take the other half later.

KristenLe reacted to doppelganger in Why is everything sweet?
Just off the phone with my bariatric liaison who is 8yrs post sleeve. She said the reasons things taste so sweet is that I am most likely in Ketosis. An 8 oz glass of skim milk or diluted juice should have enough sugars to knock that out. Wanted to share in case this might help someone. Never a milk fan but I will try and she said this will count toward my liquids. I have found pouring my Water in a small shot glass type measuring cup I picked up at World Market seems to be easier to get more liquid in. I'm sure it's psychological, but it is helping.

My surgeon rarely performs the band - he won't outright refuse to do it, but told me he's put in about 3-5 over the last year and removed 20-30 due to complications or ineffectiveness. He also said he doesn't really feel comfortable putting one in someone who isn't male and under 40 (i.e., already biologically predisposed to take off more weight w/WLS). And that someone like me who gets tempted to overeat at night might not do so well, because the restriction isn't as strong at night. So it does work for some select people, but there are factors to take into consideration.
