NO MORE Fat Lazy Slug For Me!
Don't do the hand weights. There is evidence that they don't do much and they can increase your risk of injury. But adding incline, adding time and adding speed are all good things. You can also do hills, if your treadmill has that sort of programming.

defending my band to someone who doesn't get it- what are good things to say?
Heh. Me too. Plus I phrase things in a way that they can't really say the stupid stuff back. Plus, sometimes you have to set boundaries with family so they don't treat you worse than they'd treat a stranger on the street. I tell people I didn't have surgery to lose weight. I had it to keep it off. I've gone over 200 and lost back down to a reasonable amount several times, but it always comes back and I am too old to keep up that unhealthy pattern.

Elective C-Section Poll
Actually, where they cut you is nowhere near your abdomen. The main risk is with future pregnancies... the vaginal wall gets weak. Plus the cut they do often results in you getting a noticeable panus, which sucks.

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
I'm so impressed! I swear I just lurch around for the first mile after I get off the bike. But then it gets better. You might want to try walking every other day to give your body a rest in between. That's what I do with running. Plus your muscles get stronger when you allow them to heal.

May Exercise Challenge
Today my tri club's workout was in my town. So I rode my bike to it. :rolleyes2: It was only 4 miles each way. But then I swam about 2200 yards (doing a "Cross-Fit swim workout with laps and push-ups interspersed) and ran for 20 min. I don't usually swim that much but it wasn't that hard. I think I need to come to do more laps when I do my swim workouts.

Elective C-Section Poll
I want to pick both answers! I've had two c-sections. They weren't a big deal in a lot of ways, but my sleeve surgery was a walk in the park compared to them. It's definitely surgery and it's definitely healthier for the baby to have a vaginal birth.

I hate it when people post just to post.....
Not really. There is a layer of water between you and the suit that helps keep you warm. The pee just mixes in with that and is largely gone pretty soon after.

May Exercise Challenge
Thurs. was Bike to Work Day. So I did. Then I biked home. It's not a practical ride for every day but once a year is fine. :grouphug: 18 miles to work, 21 on the way home (I got lost).

Ladies and Gents... what DO U LOVE???
Exercise isn't all or nothing. Anything you do is better than doing nothing. Once you start doing *something* you can work on doing it more intensely or doing more. I started out going to the gym 1-2 times a week to ride the stationary bike and now I'm doing triathlons and working out 6-10 hours a week. I just gradually upped things.

Hi everyone!
Hi Amanda- I would research *all* the different types of WLS and not just the band. If you are going to be successful, you need to pick the one that works best for your food issues and has the post-op lifestyle you can live with. Here's a chart to get you started: Weight-Loss Surgeries Compared

Date scheduled for Mexico- woudl love pre-op suggestions!
Have you tried the Pre-Op section. There are always people talking about how to get through the pre-op diet in there!

I hate it when people post just to post.....
Peeing in the wet suit is mandatory. But people still pee while riding their bikes on the longer races. Yuck. I don't want to win that badly. I'll use a porta-potty. I'm having trouble at work too. I don't like to talk about work in public though. You never know who is reading.

Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad
Too late. Most of your responses have been snippy. As a moderator, I am strongly suggesting that you take a break from this thread and not come back until you can read disagreement with your doctor without taking it entirely too personally and feeling a need to strike out at others.

Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad
I've lost over 100% of my excess weight and I'm a triathlete training for the half-ironman distance. I understand you think your surgeon walks on Water, but I find most of his nutrition advice (over several articles) to be mediocre. I have done a lot of research on nutrition because -- unlike some people -- I don't just assume my doctor knows everything. Maybe you should do some independent research yourself.

Why You Shouldn't Eat Salad
I'm a big believer in the High Protein diet, but even I find that statement ridiculous. salad is healthy and has lots of micronutrients we all need. It compresses down really well so you can eat it and still have room for other things. Protein is very important, but it's not more important than anything else. You need to eat more than protein just like you need to eat more than salads. No thanks. I'll get books on nutrition that aren't full of horrible advice. Maybe for you, but not for everyone.

May Exercise Challenge
I swam tonight. Not sure of the yardage yet. (I'm waiting for the email with the workout list to come out.) We did a lot of stuff with kicking so yardage won't be as high as some weeks though. And I got out of the pool from the sides on the first try!

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Yeah, I almost wanted to join them just for the name. There are Bike MS events all over the country, though. So maybe there is one in your area!

Couch to 5k.....come join me!!
Here's the FIRST plan. It has you running 3 days a week. I can't run more than that... my middle-aged body can't take it: 3-Day Half Marathon Training Plan at Runner's World.com There are other plans though. Just Google "Half-marathon Training Plan" and you'll find TONS of them.

A triathlon suit. Or a tri tank top. My choice. I'll probably take the tank. One piece suits are hard to pee in. Congrats!

Realize band
The Swedish band is now called the Realize Band (made by J&J) so maybe that's why you can't find a site for it. Lap-band AP is a competing system made by Allergen.

Scars from sleeve surgery
My swim coach today told me it was time for a new suit. I guess I'm falling out of this one when I swim.

Titanium Staples? and brief intro
They used to. But they have a new guy in charge and now they don't. At least that's the case in CA. I have a bunch of friends who got sleeves through them and then a bunch more that were subsequently denied because the surgery is "experimental." Morons.
