adorkbl reacted to sharmom in After 4 Years I'm Almost To My Goal Weight!
Hi everyone my name is Sharmon I was banded sept 2008 and in an auto collision Dec2008 that caused 4 anular tears at 4 levels. At that time I had already lost 30 lbs then came the physical pain and depression I had to deal with. I spet 2 1/2 years just making it day to day drinking protien 26g 2xs per day and 3 meals (not very much) my activity level was very limited due to the pain so I did what I could slowly. 14 mos ago I went and had a fill. I believe I have a 10 cc band and a 7cc fill but it was and is tight still. I started walking through the pain upwards of 2 turtle miles drinking Water water water Protien shakes Optimum 26g per scoop. Up to 3 scoops per day and 3 small protien with protien
N some veggies. I started at 315 lbs I'm 5 11 the last I weighed was 202 lbs. it is still a journey but well worth it. The difficult part for me is having daily back pain and excersize but I just still do my turtle miles and what I can do around my home. I never thought I could get this weight off Now I can get up and put on anything clothing that I own and it fits. Sometimes they are too big. . The band is the hardest but best thing I ever did for myself. Would I do it again? Somedays I say no because I'm an emotional eater but after fighting myself and winnin I say YES I WOULD DO IT AGAIN. So hang in there people. You will see progress!

Hope your revision is approved. I would revise in your situation as well. I was just repositioned due to a hiatal hernia. If I had the option of a sleeve covered by insurance... I probably would have switched. I am just happy to have the band still in place for now... so far so good with the last surgery.
Keep us updated! Wish you success!

adorkbl got a reaction from kentx05 in Help, I'm Addicted To Ice Cream
I am addicted to ice cream too. I lost 100 pounds initially... had some complications (gallbladder surgery, port leak, port replacement) and I let it all go to ****. I gained 50 back and have been hovering at the same weight now for a long time.
Unlike you, I DID have an addiction to ice cream pre-band, but thought if that was the ONE thing I had to do myself, I could do it. Well... it is REALLY hard. I am back to eating a pint of Ben & Jerry's a night. Sometimes more. I easily eat 1000-1200 calories a day in ice cream.
I just recommitted myself 2 days ago. I have been ice cream free for 2 days. Sounds silly... but seriously, that is huge for me!! I am relearning how to work with my band instead of around it. No more drinking when eating. No more slider foods. And no more ice cream!!
For me, I have to completely ban ice cream from my life. When I lost the 100 pounds my first year... I was not eating ANY. I understand that skinny people eat ice cream, and chips, blah blah. Moderation blah blah. Well I am not, nor have I ever been a skinny person. I can't just have 1 scoop. I always want more. My brain never stops wanting more. I crave it. I obsess about it. The only way I could control it is to treat it like an alcoholic would alcohol. I cannot have any. Never. Not one scoop. Not one bite. Not one lick. Once I have it, it snowballs.
I have been in pretty bad sugar withdrawals the last two days... but I am hanging in there. I did it before, I can do it again. Yesterday I was obsessing about a turtle sundae from Culvers. I wanted it. I was telling myself, just this one last time. Just once more. Start tomorrow. Well I have been telling myself that for over a year. And where has that gotten me? I went home and had a Protein shake instead. I was pissed. Unsatisfied. Angry. But after those initial feelings passed I was so proud of myself for hanging in there. Today was a little easier. Tomorrow will be a little easier.
HANG IN THERE. You just have to keep reminding yourself of your goals. Why you had this surgery. Don't throw it all away for 10 minutes of pleasure. It is a wicked, awful, nasty cycle. You can do it. Drive a different route. Don't pass Sonic. Don't keep ice cream in your freezer. Treat it like an addict. You cannot have it. Period. Give it a shot. Best of luck to you. I am there with you. You are not alone.

Here's another vote for Vitafusion brand Fiber gummies! They saved me from this issue and I've been taking them for over 2 years now. All it takes for me is one gummie every morning. They taste great, chew well, do not swell, and work great!
    I get them at Target.

When I first started my journey I thought about how I would reward myself too! Somewhere along the way in this past year the constant weight loss distracted me and when I reached my goal (I lost 150 pounds in one year) I completely forgot about that. I'm skinny now hehe... what an AWESOME reward!! I wear size 4 jeans and size small shirts now... REWARD! Honestly, I can't think of a single thing I could give myself that would outshine what I have already done for me~ a new body is about the best reward I can imagine! Happy Losing Everyone!! Trust me, it's BEYOND worth every struggle you will encounter!

I try and look at everyday as a fresh start. If you dwell on the mistakes, it becomes a vicious cycle where you comfort with more poor choices.
Tomorrow make a goal to get through one day.
    Just one.
    Then build on it.
    Add another. And another.
Replace eating with a new habit or hobby.
You can do it. One bite at a time. One decision at a time.

One, always listen to your gut. If you fear something else is going on with your body beyond the band, then listen to it and get it checked out. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
As for the band, bad food choices can effect your entire body, including your hair. It sounds like you're dealing with head hunger far more than any physical hunger- which is far harder to deal with. I know I seem to ask myself daily "am I physically hungry or head hungry?" More often than not, I am head hungry and have to grit my teeth and wait for urge to eat to pass.
You're not a failure. A failure is someone who eats horribly and too much yet still gets on these boards howling how "the band didn't work for them". You realize where you need to make some changes and are honest enough with yourself to admit it. That's not a failure, that's being human and learning from your mistakes. We ALL do it.
Hang in there, you're on the right track, just stick with it

Is where I find my peace, away from it all. It's mines, it belongs to me for that moment. I am a new woman, my mind is at peace. I can finally THINK, without 2 toddlers in one ear and well... Life in the other. I can be myself, by myself and enjoy myself. Even if I'm sore or in a little pain afterwards, that's ok. Peace never hurt so good
Just sharing my new found peace... It's lovely

adorkbl got a reaction from zinhaa in Protein Shakes Enough For A Breakfast Meal?
I do a Protein shake for Breakfast because I am NOT a morning person... so I am always running late, and it is easy for my to grab one and drink it on the way to work. It is easy for me to get down, and I don't have to think about it.
It works for me. Sometimes I switch it up and do a Chobani Yogurt w/Kashi Go Lean Crunch Cereal sprinkled on top. That is also easy for me to get down. Keeps me fuller longer.
