Universal Healthcare is not the answer either there is a lot wrong with that as well Canada has it and it is not working for them either they come to the US to get health care Look I work in the Emergency room and that is what most people that don't have insurance do use the ED as there pcp , it is against the law to turn away pt's we get a lot from other countries that has that kind of health care Universal healthcare but the catch is you can see a Dr. but it maybe months from now and you have a serious illness that don't work either so they come over here because non private hospitals like the one I work at has to treat you regardless if you have ins or not! What should be or could be is not the issue the issue is what is going on right now which is the ins companies are out of control

@@Christinamo7 I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your dad. You said ... "I just do not really "want to" anything - and that is probably normal right now." I feel the same way. I have been dealing with a health issue for my mom and I don't want to do anything either. I feel dull. I feel flat. I cry every day. On 6/20 I came home to find her on the floor in the midst of a stroke. I could have lost her. Right now she is in Rehab and has a very long recovery ahead of her. I don't even want to imagine if it had been worse. I am really just so sorry for your loss......I hope that you are able to stay healthy and be comforted by the friends and family that surround you.

I feel fairly confident to say last week was the worst week of my life. and I am pretty sure this coming week will come second. a week ago Saturday my daddy was killed in a tractor accident on the farm. it was sudden and horrifying.
I have no idea how I even continued to breathe last week much less follow a program.Thankful for that restriction helping me, and that I kind of auto pilot and go to Protein first when it was available. I had determined to just eat whatever people brought to the house and not add to my mama's stress but needing special things. and to drink enough to not get dehydrated - she had enough on her. I walked a lot on the farm, and some on the beach nearby but didn't track anything or worry about any of that stuff. was not capable. don't really know if I am capable of giving that my mental attention now.
but now I am back home, fixing my own foods and it is time to get back with the program and back on plan. Weigh in this morning showed just slight loss and that's good.
I wonder how much extreme emotional stress will affect this journey.
on the positive side my uncle (who I posted about as my inspiration) and I had a nice long visit the evening after the funeral. Daddy was his only brother. He had the sleeve done about 2+ years ago. He told me how proud he is of me and my progress and we shared our surgery stories. he has lost 130 #. His wife of 48 years, my Aunt Loretta died just 5 weeks ago. a lot of hugs and sweet words.
And my Aunt Diane asked me a lot of questions about WLS as she and my cousin Don are considering it. They have both struggled with weight their whole lives.
Everyone said how glad they are that I am not struggling with diabetes anymore and how I am starting to look like the girl they remember before I got heavy.
I am not sure how I can try to put back a life together that has any sense of normality. one day at a time I guess.
I know some of you have had major life stresses happen during your active weight loss phase - were you successful in getting back on task to focus on weight loss/health issues?

I have been losing 2 lbs a week since my revision in May, Very frustrating to see the fast numbers on first time sleevers. I guess a pound lost is better than a pound gained. Just hope I can lose 60 more lbs.

Yep, us band to sleeve patients have it completely different. I haven't had any problems with eating or drinking anything, which disturbed me for months. I expected all the things I read on here - BIG mistake!! I don't have to chew a million times and I can chug Water just like before. Another thing, us revision patients lose SLOWLY as I found out only after surgery. My surgeon doesn't really have an explanation as to why this is, but he says it is indeed a fact.
As far as the surgery itself and post op, I had quite a bit of pain because of my 2nd hiatal hernia repair. Sometimes I wonder what goes on inside of me, lol.
Wish you well! Hope you have a little quicker weight loss than I am having. But it's still better than before

    MEN. don't you love it?
my husband does not have a weight problem. if he ever needs to loose it is 5-10 pounds- do you know what he does? he eats LESS potato chips. seriously. he doesn't STOP eating them, he just doesn't eat the whole bag.
me? he better not put the bag between us because I will gain weight just being that close to them.
your feelings are normal, and understandable - but they will not help you. come here to vent if you need to and then bless him. a year from now I hope you're both just where you need to be.

In the middle of our family's traditional 'last nite before school starts 'dinner I was out flanked and seriously assaulted by my underwire bra!
It was a surprise attack. Previous recon on the offending underwire gave no hint of an impending an attack. Damage to the bra's current left side resident is still being assessed. Names withheld pending notification to other resident.
The hostile underwire is being held by canine special forces after being delicately removed, cussed at, thrown to the floor. The Yorkie and Maltipoo are on hostile undergarment security detail until further notice.
Seriously though, I really didn't wanna buy a new bra till it didn't fit after WLS.

SusanB55 reacted to Dr. Gail Altschuler MD in Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
So many great responses, especially those reminding you that it may take a bit to find the best approach for you and for your body to kick into weight loss gear. A couple of suggestions.
    1. Try planning your meals primarily solid Protein and vegetables. Eat slowly and chew your food really well. Enjoy Water a half hour before and an hour after meals, but eat your meals pretty dry. The sleeve is a restrictive surgery and liquids may not be giving you the sensation of fullness you're looking for to feel satisfied.
    2. Aim for 1000 calories of carefully planned meals, Protein and vegetables, only small amounts of complex carbs or fruit to start. Avoid liquid calories unless you can only manage a shake in a hurry.
    3. Physical activity is really healthy and almost essential for maintenance, but it has a limited effect for weight loss. The focus should be on the food you eat. It's not necessary to exercise 3 hours a day or push yourself to the limit. If you do that to the extreme, you're body may think you're starving and go into high gear to hold on to your weight.
    4. Trust your body and the process. You'll learn what works for you. Sometimes it just takes a bit longer to figure it out. Take care. Dr. Gail

I was cleared for all foods at 4 weeks - and then tip toed into trying different things. Was a relief that steak didn't upset my tummy at about the six week mark - but we are all different and the healing process varies.

I understand your frustration then! I have been a slowish looser too - but I do believe at the end of the day slow and steady wins the race. We'll just keep doing what we are supposed to do! looks like you are doing everything just as you should be.

SusanB55 reacted to AvaFern in Need to do a Costco run - Whats on your Costco Shopping list?
Lol, ok so this was my list from the other day. We have the program where they shop for your order at Walmart and bring it out to your car, so while it's not costco, I buy a whole pile of stuff all at once so I don't have to grocery shop. I bought 6 cases of diet Root Beer, 6 cases of Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper, 6 boxes of flavor blasted goldfish crackers, 3 giant boxes of Fiber One bars, 4 cases of Water, 10 packs of Crystal Light, steam in bag veggies (corn, peas, and caulliflower for calliflower shepherd's pie, and pepper and potatoes with light sauce), several Protein power packs (cheese and turkey chopped up for 2 year old with nuts in a pack) , ground turkey (for turkey burgers and shepherd's pie), sliced monterrey jack from the deli, sliced turkey from the deli (because they are good rolled up), and probably a few other things.
I'm almost 3 years out and I know what I can and can't eat and that involves plenty of crackers and goldfish, and not a whole lot in the way of things like cottage cheese, yogurt, fruits, etc. Before surgery I would have had a lot of Lean Cuisines, which I now never eat, and some Cookies, which I also now rarely eat. My shopping list is by no means something most people think is something a sleeved person should be eating, but it's what works for me, and if anything it shows people that life does really go back to normal and boring after awhile.
