heidikat72 reacted to OKCPirate in Not sure I'm strong enough
My divorce process took nearly 9 months. Many, many ups and downs. I tried to put my self back there going through the changes which resulted from surgery, I think I would do the surgery. But here are the cautions:
    1) There can be a real change in mood do to the hormone dumping that occurs when you lose fat.
    2) Can you stay focused enough to stay on program and avoid emotional eating?
WLS is a tool, not a magic wand.
The reason why I would have done the surgery knowing what I know now...
It is a good focusing tool. You probably have a sizable investment in time in getting this set up. As you take control in one area of your life, you tend to get more control in others. It is a major positive, which will give strength during a tough time. It would be nice to have someone watching the home front/kids. Doing it alone is tougher, even if they are not supportive. This is my $.02 without really knowing your specifics (and I'm not trying to pry). Just some very general things to consider.

yes. depending on how far out you are and your particular surgeon's suggestions, they may prefer you do Decaf tea for a while. an iced herbal tea (naturally caffeine free) might be a good option if they want you to lay off caffeine for a while.
note: the whole no caffeine thing tends to become a heated debate on here. So I will just say follow your practice's guideline on that.

I would use PB2 instead. 180 cals of PB2 is 20g Protein, rather than 12g.

exactly what KristenLe said! but if it makes you feel better - in the first two weeks I lost...NOTHING not even a tenth of a pound. Now at 4.5months out, I'm down 70lbs. So everyone loses differently but if you follow your plan, you will lose.

most likely Fluid retention - even pre-op when I would have more than one drink, I'd retain fluid for a couple days. Just drink tons of Water to flush it out. and definitely don't weigh at night! lol Seriously, I am routinely 2-3lbs heavier at the end of the day (sometimes as much as 5lbs!). We hold on to stuff during the day and at night while sleeping, our bodies reset. So I always compare morning numbers on the scale.< /p>

a lot of nonfat greek yogurt - just make sure it doesn't have fruit bits in it.
refried Beans with a little cheese melted on it
tuna, chicken, or salmon (the flavored pouches of tuna and salmon are great for this) pureed with a tablespoon or so of plain nonfat greek yogurt.
ricotta bake (the recipe is on the blog "the world according to eggface" - she also has a whole post dedicated to what to have on the puree phase, and later when cleared for "all food" she does posts called "A day in my pouch")

I didn't lose anything the first two weeks either - not even a tenth of a pound. Then in the next two weeks I lost 22lbs. So instead of the typical week 3 stall, I just had a delayed start. Everyone is different. Just stick with your plan and have faith.

heidikat72 got a reaction from MSer07 in Shot to Reduce Risk of Blood Clots
yep - i did lovenox injections twice a day for 14 days after I got home to prevent blood clots. From what I understand, it is pretty normal now - especially for patients with a higher BMI that may not be particularly active.
The shots are easy to give yourself - and the nurses will show you in the hospital but basically pinch a little skin in the love handle area and inject slowly at a 90 degree angle. there will likely be bruising - so try to inject a little bit away from a previous bruise each time. And since I did them twice a day - i alternated sides - did my left side in the morning and right side in the evening. the bruising can take a few weeks to go away so tell her not to be alarmed by that and I even had some hard little nodules below my skin from a few of them - doc said that was normal too and about 6 weeks later they were gone.

@@Hammer_Down Terms like 'bullying' and 'judgmental' are used so often, and again, used in the context of 'you're doing this to me' instead of owning the feeling and saying 'I feel bullied' or 'I feel judged'. Saying 'I cheated, I couldn't help it' instead of 'I decided to eat that pork chop' puts the responsibility for their behavior on someone else, the person who created the 'rule' instead of where it belongs, which is on themselves.
How you frame your response to others is SO important, and there are a lot of people in the WLS community who are still sitting around being victims rather than taking control of their emotions and responses to those emotions. I'm a compassionate, empathetic person, but I draw the line at becoming an enabler.

    Thank you, likeminded people!
I'm still pre-op for about 17 days. I have been staying off this site and chosen the posts I read carefully. I have made a plan for my wls journey and I don't want to stray from it because someone else makes self destructive choices. I got worried that the bad attitudes would catch me like a cold.
When I first joined, I found it amusing to read about the tacos, t-bone steaks by mistake and swedish fish beeing soft food. All the things you should know not to do if you did your research, even skimming through the basics.
Lately I have been talking to people who have just had their surgeries, read up on complications and really thought about my choice. I find that more valuable than trying to talk to the people who made their bad choices already and end their posts with "no negative comments allowed".
But then again, I need the people that make the mistakes, so my odds of reaching a healthy weight increases...
Thanks for being here and please hold me accountable if I stray off my intendend plan! No fuzzy feelings or pretty packages required, I need to make the most of it!

My suggestion would be to increase calories with more Protein, good fats and carbs and see what happens. Although, I don't think your loss is very slow for your starting weight.

It was over 2 months before I had any energy whatsoever. I really struggled with fatigue.
Heather I - do you have a way to check your blood pressure on your own? If so, check it daily. I was shocked at how quickly it suddenly dropped about a month post-op - to the point where I had some very scary episodes where I nearly passed out in the shower and at work.

You are spot on. It really is a very sad situation when people are given this amazing opportunity and they can't rise above food to take full advantage of it. It really is a mental game from the very beginning, and I don't think many people who post on here get that. They look at the insurance requirements (if they are using insurance) as "hoops" to jump through instead of thinking about why the requirements are there and how they can actually be beneficial to help them mentally prepare for surgery and their post-op life.
I try to remember that this is a public forum, so there will be a wide variety of opinions from people with very different types of lives, but after being on here for a few months, I am more convinced than ever that LOTS of people get this surgery for the wrong reasons, see it as some kind of magic wand that it isn't, and ultimately are not going to be successful long-term because they refuse to change their relationship with food.< /p>
I just think "bless your heart" and move on. People are going to do what they are going to do...

What kind of pre-op diet are you doing? If you are doing low carb, and you have entered ketosis, that probably accounts for your breath. As far as the dry mouth goes, did they put you on Phentermine by chance? If so, that causes dry mouth in the early days until you adapt to it.

Just spent an hour of my life I'll never get back reading in the Pre-/Post-Op Sleeve forums and I'm amazed by what people will still, even as they're undertaking MAJOR SURGERY, say to justify their behavior.

There are people about to have most of their stomach removed who say "I don't have a problem with food". Say what?? I'm pretty sure the Fat Fairy didn't put all this weight on any of us, right? "I couldn't stop myself". Yes, you could have...you DIDN'T. "Everyone does it". No, they don't. YOU did.
As I'm typing this out, it's clear that I'm fed up with the lack of ownership of behavior. It's odd to watch fat people trying to float the same justifications here that they've used for years with other people. Walking into a group of fat people and saying "I don't have a problem with food" is pretty ridiculous...that dog just won't hunt here. If you can't be honest with yourself and a group of people much like yourself, how can you succeed with WLS? The non-ownership of our own actions and capabilities is what got many (most?) of us to where we are and it kills me that there are people STILL wallowing in the 'I don't control myself' pool who are getting WLS. What a waste.
