I finally did it, I was sleeved on the 21st!
I'm Dennis, married, 30 years old with a VERY active two year old. I'm from a farming family in rural NC, so I was always active outdoors, hunting, fishing, etc.
Just like many of the folks here, my weight has been a lifelong struggle. I was over 300lbs by the time I was 15, until I hit my all time high of 405lbs at 19. I'm 30 now, and for the last 5-7 years, I have maintained right around 350, sometimes more, sometimes less.
I had been looking at WLS for a long while, but it always seemed to take a back burner to whatever else I had going on. I finally decided that this was my year, I wanted to be able to keep up with my son, and just be able to enjoy life in general, without being so self conscious or tiring out so easily. I wanted to feel good about myself!
I had a fairly easy process, from my first seminar to the surgery date was only about 4 months.
I'm now just a few days out, and adjusting well. Christmas day wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I really had no desire to eat a thing. Getting my fluids in has been a chore enough! I'm going to use this thread to document my journey, post progress pictures, and just stay encouraged and on track.

Coffeeguy reacted to sksh in Coffee Protein Powder! Is it safe for us?
    Hello everyone~~
I needed to share this with you guys~~
I'm addicted to coffee .. all my life.
I start drinking coffee back after 6 months from surgery and I drink it coffee everyday (shot of espresso with 150ml of nonfat milk and stevia)
I kinda got tired of it I wanted to change so I searched and I found this 2 products
which basically Protein powder with real coffee as they claim!!
Before I go on I wanted to show you this guys because
    - I wanted to see what you think about Protein Powder
    - what is your experience with it and your story
    - is it helpful or safe?
    - what your surgeons and your nutrition told you about Protein powders as well~~
So take your space and share and just lets chat about them~~^^
    First:
    javapro

It comes with so many flavors.
Now the info are for 28g .. but I think 28g is a lot for one cup for us (/^\)?
    Second:
    click

It comes with so many flavors also.
also I think 31g is too much (/^\)
So now in the first one
I don't know .. I think there is so much protein?
The second one its great but there is a lot of sugar!!!
    what you guys think?
    - would you use one of them? or did you use one?
    - did anyone ask a nutrition about them before?
    - are they good for us or not?
I really will appreciate if you guys give me some answers or share some of your opinions about them and about protein powders^^
    Have a nice day~~

It is 2:00 a.m., and I'm sitting in my hospital bed writing this post on my iPad. My surgery started at 3:00 p.m. yesterday. It finished around 6:00 p.m., and I was in my room for the night around 9:00 p.m.
Yesterday was a little rough because I had an afternoon surgery and had to wait so long without even a Protein shake. I don't remember much from the surgery itself. ???? I apparently was quite vocal in the recovery room. I asked for lots of pain and nausea meds, and this kept me in recovery for a little longer than usual. I'm glad, though, because I kept tight control of the nausea.
I got settled in a regular room around 9:00 p.m. It was hard to get comfortable in the hospital bed, but the pain was not terrible. On a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst, I've stayed around a 3. This is definitely the least painful surgery I've had (out of 5 surgeries at various times in my life, including 2 c-sections). I do feel the sharper gas pain around my shoulders, but it's tolerable, and I have not taken a gas remedy. I was able to make several trips to the bathroom, so it's obvious my kidneys are working well.
I finally slept for a few hours. While sleeping, I left the ice pack against my new "holes," and managed to cold burn the skin a little. I don't recommend putting the ice pack directly against your skin. ????
Now, I'm quite awake. I'm uncomfortable, but the 2 ice chips I ate haven't caused a problem. My mouth is dry, but not intolerably so. After surgery, you'll want to wet a washcloth and clean your lips and nose. Mine were pretty grimy. Yuck. Chapstick really helps, too. I'm finally hit the little target on my breathing apparatus.
Overall, I feel like things have gone well. I have the barium test in the morning to check for leaks. I've heard that can be a little rough. I will report back.
It does feel great to be on the "other side." ????

I'm pre-sleeve, but I can tell you that when I hit goal, I'm buying another sportbike.
Had a Yamaha FJ-1200 that served me well for many years and many pounds gained, but it burned up in a barn fire a couple years ago. I've looked halfheartedly at replacements, but I know that at my current size, I look pretty ridiculous on anything really sporty.
I rode a friend's Ducati 996 awhile back, and I think half the bike disappeared up my ass-crack...

Coffeeguy got a reaction from 2goldengirl in Losing trust in my husband
It sounds like everything is resolved, but just to reiterate...
Us guys deal with stress and worry a lot differently than you girls. We tend to bottle stuff up and push it down inside, letting it manifest through drinking, building awesome stuff, and feats of strength.
When we absolutely can't cope with stuff alone, we usually go to the people a ) we trust the most, and b ) who we don't worry about looking vulnerable in front of. I'm sure you fall into category (a) for him, but in our traditional role as husbands, we really don't want to let on that we have...feelings...and fears...and that we worry.
You have every right to be pissed, and he knows that, too. But I'll give you dollars to donuts that his intent wasn't to disappoint you.
Best wishes and good vibes for your surgery.

Coffeeguy reacted to Dub in Has your Marriage Changed Since Surgery?
The cool thing about this surgery is that it doesn't only help you change your weight......but it helps you reach a point where you can let go of all sorts of stuff. The biggest "let go" item for me, for example, has been hesitance to be in social environments. I'm not anti-social by any means, however I wish I could have a Harry Potter wand to shrink myself when going places. During my 20's and early 30's things were fine. If I was out somewhere and wearing a t-shirt or polo that had my favorite NCAA or NFL team logo....I'd often be asked when I played for them. Buddies would go nuts because I'd not work the angle at bars to get us free beer & shooters. The last 15 years, though......the weight reached the point where, except for a 3 year health kick-weight training kick, I was simply not comfortable in my own skin.
Now......those feelings are fading. I don't shy away from public situations. I sort of laugh inside thinking to myself, "Well, dude.....you just met some folks that will not recognize you in just a few months when you see them again".
There are other areas of negative thought that simply are now GONE.
    It is liberating.
Being able to see things more clearly without the filter of pain and self-doubt is a gift from God.
Please, please, please tap into this new superpower you'll receive from your surgery. Let the doubting thoughts simply slip away....sorta like your
old clothes that are getting loose and baggy. Let the negative stuff just slide off like Water off a duck's back. GONE.
I don't know your husband so please don't take what I'm about to say the wrong way, but us guys aren't very complicated. Sometimes when you see a strange look on our faces....it isn't that we are contemplating something deep.....we may just be trying to remember where our favorite old sneakers are.....not unlike a dog thinking of where it left it's bone. Don't overthink anything we say or do. We are simple....not far removed from the knuckle dragging stages or our hunter-gatherer genetic code. We sit around and scratch....and then burst into action......and then pile up on the sofa to scratch some more.
    Unburden yourself of the doubts.
Engage in conversation with him. Talk things out. Let him know how you are feeling. We are not mind readers and we have short term memory (that's why we lose our sneakers that were kicked off in some random spot).
Do not give us more credit than we deserve and work up any deep scenarios in your head. You'll go bonkers and then later on be shocked at the low level thoughts that were taking place in our heads....not the deep pondering you may have thought.
One of the benefits of losing weight is losing the negativity. Roll with it.
If you find yourself getting smacked on the butt more often......then roll with that, too. It's all good stuff.
    Feel good & be good.
Being a member of the male fraternity......I can share a secret or two from the clubhouse.
We need to be taught some things.
In many ways were are much the same as that Labrador Retriever puppy you bring home. House train us and let us know the ground rules and we will enthusiastically carry them out. Some, though, never learn not hump your friend's legs when they come over. Sorry.....you gotta decide if you can live our worst flaws or can they be trained out of us..........
Hell yes. Let the mind game thing melt away....right alongside the unwanted weight that is burning off.
Those aren't emotions......just the endorphin rush you've been feeling from the killer exercising you've been doing.
I gotta get my arse in gear and follow your lead......get into BEAST-mode really dang soon or I'll wind up looking like the skinny-fat dudes who wear Speedo bathing suits at the beach.....but should NOT.
I do not want to be that guy.
You, on the other hand, are getting into bikini shape and will arrive there well before beach season arrives. I'm grooving on your enthusiasm and loving your zeal for it.
You are the patient my surgeon yearns for. He's been on me to kick it into gear. He'd take you and have commercials made to showcase how it can happen for folks. Wonder Woman forthcoming. He'd have you on all the billboards all over town.
Much respect. I'm buying you a virtual ice cold beer and tipping it your way.
Please send me details of when and where you'll be debuting that beach body. I'll be on that beach, too. The skinny-fat guy with the sombrero on....dark sunglasses and bucket of ice cold Messican cervezas beside my worn out beach chair. I'll be there to sit back and take in the sights. Will NOT be wearing a Speedo, however. Full blown Perve-mode.

Yes, you can still drink coffee. You may experience some burning sensations the first couple of times you drink it but you will soon get over it.
On a side note, the first time I drank alcohol after the sleeve, about month 5, I had this horrible burning sensation. I thought I really messed up. But it was fine. I'm only a social drinker but am fine with it now.
