healthier&happier4life got a reaction from PatriotFan in Iron Supplement - SUGGESTIONS NEEDED
I've been taking BariActiv chewables (iron, Calcium, Multivitamin, B12) through Nutrition Direct since my surgery June 2016. After about 6 months I could no longer tolerate the calcium and multivitamin. So, I switched over to PatchMD for calcium & multivitamin. For the last couple of months, I've not been taking Iron, because it gives me indigestion or bad reflux. I know I need to take it. I've been feeling very tired lately. Wondering what others suggest for the iron. I appreciate your suggestions. They do have more chewables out there for the iron, but I don't know if they will cause issues with me or not. Thanks for your suggestions.

I had gastric bypass last June. I know it's not the same procedure , but I feel like we go through some of the same things. I had several days where I felt kind of down shortly after the surgery, but it didn't last long. I think your body is recovering but your mind is also adjusting to a whole new way of life. I just think it takes a lot of your energy to totally recover and it's zaps you. The good news is that it doesn't last long. Hang in there.

I don't have advise about this because I don't post anything about my surgery or weight loss on fb. However, if I did, I would let them unfriend me because. I don't that in my life. When it comes to parents, I only have my mom and grandma. I did not tell my mom until after surgery and I flat out told her to stop being so negative. Grandma was supportive from the beginning.
Bottom line is you don't need negative people in your life. It's not healthy for you even if you didn't get WLS.

I'm about 7 months post op and have lost 107 pds! My pre-op weight was 251. I've gone from size 20/XXL to size 10 pants / medium shirts.

healthier&happier4life reacted to CharlotteKat in Why you really do need to wait at least 30 minutes after a meal to drink fluids
This is a very good video that shows what happens when you drink liquids after eating. Our new pouches let liquids push food through our stomachs. This can leave us feeling unsatisfied. It is very important to time food and liquids even after you reach goal weight. We are far smarter than our pouches so we will always need to wait after meals before drinking anything.
Simply timing our fluids can help us all maintain our weight loss.

I'm sorry this has been difficult for you. Call your surgeon's office and explain about the insurance. Maybe they'll get you in sooner. Is there another surgeon you can use that might work quicker with you? I would just call the patient coordinator and explain your situation. I hope all works out well.

I just had bypass surgery 5 weeks ago. I was a little nervous also, but knew that I wasn't really living my life to the fullest. You've obviously decided that this is what's best for you. Keep reminding yourself why you're doing this. Sometimes the things that are best for us aren't necessarily the easiest things to do!

I just had my bypass June 20th. I also had problems with solid foods. Turns out that I was eating bites that were too big and also eating too fast. (This is exactly what the vets on this site said.) I really have to focus on eating small bites, chewing alot, and taking a break between bites. Doing okay as long as I do these things.

I'm 52 and 5 weeks post op. My stats are similar to yours. I'm 5'4" and was 250lbs. I had sleep apnea (which I believe is already gone), but I don't have the other health problems you have. Regardless, I've struggled with my weight for the last 20 years. Up and down with more ups than downs. I realized that 20 years was long enough to prove that I needed help with this. You know whether or not you can get healthy on your own or not. There's no shame in getting help! I'm so glad that I did this!

healthier&happier4life reacted to Alex Brecher in Please Read: Keep BariatricPal a Safe Place
I started the BariatricPal forums to create a safe place for everyone in the weight loss surgery community. It is for pre-op and post-op patients, for patients of all types of WLS, and for anyone who supports the WLS community. I want you to be able to come here for advice, encouragement, support, and information without worrying about being judged.
I have a zero-tolerance policy for rudeness, and you can see the guidelines in the Forum Rules.
Recently, there have been several instances of members being disrespectful or downright rude. Examples include:
Stating or implying that a poster is doomed to failure or not ready for WLS because he or she asked a certain question or is engaged in a certain behavior. Telling people that your way is the only way, and any other way means the member deserves WLS failure. Discriminating against “newbies,” such as letting a newbie know that you don’t think he or she will succeed, or asking only “vets” to reply to a certain thread. (Reminder: you can always choose not to follow the advice of someone you deem unqualified to give it). The vast majority of BariatricPal members do a phenomenal job making BariatricPal the warm, friendly community that I dreamed of when I started it. Thank you! Besides being sure to be polite and respectful, here are some additional ways to help.
If you see an offensive post, please consider the following.
You do not need to respond. Instead of giving a rude answer and escalating the situation, you can simply choose not to answer. You can report the post by clicking on the “Report” option under the post. A forum moderator will look into the situation and may delete the post or ban the member if the member continues to post inappropriately. You can send the member a private message explaining that you felt the post was inappropriate, and explaining why. In many cases, you may be surprised that the member did not even realize he or she was being rude. Please also think twice before you respond to any questions or other posts. It is possible that you could write a post that is genuinely meant to be helpful, but the person could accidentally interpret your post the wrong way. Try to remember that:
It is very difficult to communicate a specific tone in writing. You may write something that you think is helpful and understanding, while someone reading it might take it as bossy or judgmental. Emoticons such as smiley faces can help. You can also add a sentence to explain that you are only offering a suggestion or sharing your own experience and that you are not trying to judge the OP. The OP might be in a vulnerable situation. They may be panicking about a worrisome symptom. They may be in turmoil about whether to get WLS. They may be freaking out about a stall. When they’re upset, it’s easier for them to misinterpret your well-meaning post. Thank you for doing your best to keep the environment at BariatricPal positive, encouraging, and open. We all need a place to go for help and support, and I want the entire weight loss surgery to feel comfortable using BariatricPal for advice and encouragement.

Thanks for posting this! They are all really good, but #12 really resonates with me:
Give yourself the same compassion, respect, and kindness that you’d give a close friend or family member. It’s time to stop being harder on yourself than you’d be on someone else. Guilt and self-blame fuel emotional eating.

It funny the way this works because most of the time it is the doctors office that says they are going to submit and then they don't so you constantly have to follow up.
Once I got them to submit after they screwed up several times for several weeks I literally got an approval within a couple of hours of the submission. I was shocked when I got a call back from the surgeons office with a date for my surgery because I had been approved. I suspect they were begging the insurance company to rush mine because they were supposed to have submitted it some 3 weeks before but someone went on vacation and left me hanging. When I found out they still had not submitted it, I freaked and started bawling like a big old baby and I think it scared them. LOL.
Then when a couple hours later I got my call I started bawling again like a big old baby.
This process made me very emotional because I was so sick and ready to start my new life.
I hope you get an answer quickly so it will put your mind at ease and allow you to move on to the most exciting phase. Yes, you will likely get nervous as the date nears but hopefully you are so ready that it is like Christmas morning.
I know I feel that way now that I am through it and have had my first of several plastics. It feels like Christmas morning.
    Good luck!
