cookarue got a reaction from bellabill in So it turns out my wife is gay...
Don't stay anywhere too long with someone who can't even take care of her own issues. As far as the actress goes, she's told you she's not interested in the long run. She disappeared, and now she's back to using you in order to regain her confidence (most likely after someone broke up with her). I, myself, am guilty of that in the past. String along a man that's interested so you can feel good about yourself, even though he's not what you want and know it.
There are PLENTY of fish in the sea, and it's time to go fishing again. Stop looking at the old fish in the freezer you already caught.
Dating shouldn't be so serious. It should be fun, and exciting. So if you're over the woman who clearly needs you more than you want her... Find someone who's fun and wants to rip your clothes off!

cookarue reacted to OneDollarBill in One year post op - Reached goal
I believe I can officially post in here and call my journey a success. I know that one year is a small insignificant amount of time in the grand scope of things. .
The whole process was a whirlwind for me. I contacted Dr Owen's office upon referral from a friend on 2/8/15. Upon talking to the front office they make me aware of pending insurance changes. At the time my insurance didn't require a 6mo monitored diet. Therefore if I wanted to get this done I had to have my surgery before March 15th. This didn't leave much time. However Dr Owens staff is so well versed in the insurance game I was approved a few days later. Reflecting on it now it was probably good that I didn't have much time to second guess myself. It was truly a "crap or get off the pot" moment.
Insurance approved my surgery was set on Mach 11, 2015
I snapped this picture in my pre-opp weight of 380lbs
liquid only phase pre-op to me was the worse part of this whole thing. Being 380lbs and eating like I was the 4 or 5 shakes a day just sucked. I've confessed on here that a few times during that 2 week diet I failed with the thinking "Oh I will never get to have this again". One night I left the house to go to Target and went through a McDonald's drive-thru. I then sat in the Target parking lot devouring a lot of bad food items. I faltered, but I picked myself up and carried on. The day of surgery I had lost 20lbs
Physical recovery for me went easy. I think I took one pain killer the day I came home. I got up and started moving the second day I was home. I just walked around my block over and over and over again. The surgery was Wednesday and I was back at work on Monday. My Dr. keeps his patients on a post-op liquid phase for another 3 to 4 weeks. This was the 2nd hardest thing. I found myself getting angry because I just wanted to chew something. I think that first scrambled egg I had was best thing ever. The mental game is REAL. Physically after surgery you are given the tool you need to succeed. What surgery doesn't do it fix the mental side of the house. It took a few weeks for the cravings and the "why did I do this" stuff to work it self out. I'm not going to diary out the other 10 to 11 months, but I am happy that I did go though with the surgery. I have accomplished things I would have never attempted to do. Namely running 4 different 5K races and most recently my first 10K. So here it is 1 year and 3 days later and I have lost 165lbs. I am definitely a new man.

How far away are you from 40 BMI? I'm just saying if you had to gain a few to qualify it wouldn't be so bad...

BMI measuring and programs are harmful because you're teaching a kid that (just like their intelligence...) they are lesser than others because of a number on a piece of paper. What they need to do is teach real health programs, centered on actual bodily/mental/emotional health rather than weight. Show kids the way to be healthy instead of that there is something "wrong" with them and watch how quickly things improve.
Speaking of bmi programs, I remember in highschool we had a new (young, good-looking male) gym teacher, and one of the first things he did was state to our girls' class that most of us were overweight. He then proceeded to weigh and do a body fat test, calipers and all, on each girl while the rest of the class watched. When he got to me... he loudly said "you're too overweight for the caliper test, so you're excused from it". I had never felt so humiliated in all my life. The way it felt to be reduced as a human and humiliated in front of 20 other girls with whom I then had to spend several years seeing again every day... I will never, ever forget it. The scariest thing about this? This was less than 6 years ago. This is still happening EVERY day.

That was a good article. I remember bmi and weight testing in school. The entire day afterwards was filled with girls talking about how perfect they were or weren't. I remember a girl talking about her thigh gap and saying her legs were perfect and mine were fat. I wasn't fat at the time, but I sure felt like I was from then on.

What a great piece. Thanks, @@Inner Surfer Girl .
The first time I remember *knowing* I was fat was in the fourth grade when we had to weigh publicly (in 1955), and the teacher announced our weights before writing them down.
I weighed 100 pounds. I was the only girl who weighed that much.
That was the first time I saw myself as *fat*. And that self-image did not end until last year (when I was 69 years old) and reached my weight goal (of 150) and have since last another 15 pounds, where my weight is now stable at 135.
    Jeez Louise!

cookarue got a reaction from Renkoss in Did anyone's spouse lose attractiveness when they got close to goal?
I said it once, and I'll say it again - there will ALWAYS be someone prettier than me, funnier than me, thinner than me, and fatter than me - but my husband married ME. Does my husband think, the more of her the merrier? Yes. But there will be nobody else who is me, and that is why I know he still loves me. He didn't marry me because I'm physical perfection (lord knows), or because I'm always so sweet (I've got good days and bad), he married me because we have the same drive, we can tolerate each other when we're out of line, we accept each other's imperfections, and we work daily to make things work. You're married, so I know there's been other things in your time that have come up, and you've worked through. This is another one of those things. So what you're not his physical idealness? We're there not other women he looked at on the planet and thought they were pretty (before surgery)? I'm sure there were, and they will exist after surgery as well. But no other woman will ever be YOU, so unless he's told you he doesn't love you, believe that he does love you... No matter your size. I told my husband it's helpful if he lies to me and tells me how wonderful I look, lol. He laughed, and he said "but YOU are wonderful". I'm sure your husband thinks you're wonderful too.

cookarue got a reaction from Kimberly Bouche-Perez in Bypass vs. Sleeve
The bypass is the golden standard for weight loss procedures. There are many people who get revised from sleeve to bypass. I take medications, and never needed a higher dose of anything.
As far as I can tell the lack of absorption means that, no you won't absorb everything you put into your mouth, so you won't get those calories either. Which is a good thing if you're trying to lose weight and maintain for the rest of your life.
Both surgeries you have to take Vitamins daily.
I, too, was concerned about hunger. Before surgery I was worried that I'd be hungry still, well no - not for weeks and months. I am 2 months out and my hunger is returning, BUT a tiny meal and I'm stuffed for hours. Lol. I am able to feel very satisfied all day long on about 400-500 calories a day. However, Head hunger (cravings) won't be going away with either surgery.
Also, the complication rate is less than 1% with the bypass. Higher than the sleeve? Sure, but still it's very unlikely.
I've gone from 237 hw to now 189 in 2 months.
Good luck to you on whichever surgery you decide.
