Not to minimize anyone fears but I feel you all will be fine! We have come a long way! Yes we will be judge but guess what? We will look good while others are judging us! We will be able to enjoy our families! I worry about my husband not loving me the same because he LOVES curves, but the truth of the matter is I need this for me! You need this surgery for you!

Amy, you are not alone, I think we all have some or all of those feelings. I don't think you will lose who you are because you are more than your outter skin. Yes you may feel grumpy but who doesn't sometimes? Take it one day at a time. You made an important decision to live a longer and healthier lifestyle and I think that's what's most important! Your family needs you! ????

If you don't want to tell anyone, then channel Miss Manners (aka, Judith Martin). She recommends "polite evasion" and/or "shocked astonishment." In your situation, I would go with "shocked astonishment."
When you are confronted with a question so horribly impolite you will find yourself at a temporary loss for words. You would say, "pardon me?" in an astonished tone, because the question is inappropriate. If they don't "get it" and repeat the question, you would continue to look shocked and say, "Well goodness, THAT is certainly a personal question" then turn and walk away.

As a guy I felt so disappointed in myself with the person I allowed myself to become. I saw a few pictures of myself from the holidays last year and could not believe what I saw, then I got on the scale and almost passed out. I personally felt like this was the easy way out and that I was a failure for not being able to control my weight. Then I met with a psychologist and dietitian a few times for pre-op approval. That was the most humbling and spiritual experience I felt in a long time. This is just another tool that some people need to lose and keep weight off. I also haven't told many people and I still don't care to. It's a personal decision and one you should be very proud of. Losing weight, getting self confidence and being more fit, active and healthy are what I look forward too. When people ask me how I am losing weight, I just tell them I started eating less, I'm still being honest with them, I just neglect to tell them I had most of my stomach removed . Remember, you did this for you and your health, who cares what people think.

@@byebyefat - you have a right to be upset! I found out fast during this process I had to be proactive.

I'm at work crying. Crying for gratitude for all of you, your posts in my fears and your one ness with me on why I am fearful. Shelley, MzAlice, lady fran. May we all be happy healthy and free at last of low self worth. We deserve it all dammit. We deserve it all.

I'm scheduled For surgery Aug 25 as well. I'm nothin but a ball of anxieties! But honestly, I think this is the best decision for me & my health. I am 41 & scared of not being here, to finish raising my 12 year old daughter . My mother has 4 sisters , who are all deceased before the age of 60. All obesity related deaths . I love my life & everyone in it , & I want to live to be 100 !

MzAlice, I am not close yet to having surgery but I think it must be very normal to be nervous. I have had surgery twice in my life for other issues. First one I did not have a lot of time to be nervous but the second one I knew a month a head and i was a wreck. Take the medicine. Ask family and friends for extra hugs. Do what every helps you relax. I am sending you all good thoughts!

LOL I am hoping I lose enough weight but not as much on my booty. I wasnt gifted on my top so I really cant afford to be flat all around ????

Sodas for me have been so hard to give up. I just want a coke lol. But I have substituted those moments by Water with my little grab-n-go Crystal Light. Hoping to soon substitute my Crystal Light powder with Syntrax nectar.

My surgery is August 26, 2015.

I have had so many people that say you dont need surgery. Or even people that say you're taking the easy way out. UMMM by reading what I have read so far about this surgery...it is not the easy way out! I wish people realized what all I will have to go thru. And I absolutely need this surgery, if not for my health, for my sanity. I cannot stand the person I have become. Cant find anything to wear, my closet full of cute clothes dont fit, I have gained 50 lbs in 10 months, cant bend down to shave my legs for crying out loud, dont want to have sex with hubby of 20 years, I cut my hair off because I am too lazy to fix it, out of breath, dont want to go to parties or summer events involving bathing suit.....the NEED for surgery is crutial to my mental well being. I feel so excited about my surgery and I want to shout it to the roof tops. Then when I do I get this reaction. What a bummer! People are so mean some times.

I got the call back from the surgeons office....my insurance has been verified. I meet with the NP next Tuesday. I'll get my packet of all the other appointments I'll need to make - psych eval, etc. I'll get my WLS soon enough, totally stoked!!!

Looking forward to seeing parts of me that I haven't seen in a while. Lol
