Hello So. Cali People, I am new to this site (1 mo) and have not had surgery. I am scheduled for February and nervous. Is there a support group for Cali people that meet together? I found groups in other states and was wondering if a group had formed here.

Thank you everyone that has posted here about Dr. A. I continue to read and see the same positive comments about him, which helps to calm me down a great deal. I will go to Dr. A's site and find the ca group. Thanks for that suggestion.

Dr. Aceves in Mexico is 7800. All the places I have researched in California were between 16,000 and 21,000. It was not only the price, I have talked to a few people on line and via phone and this is the decision I have chosen to go with in February:clap2:

Yes, it is is Southern California Kaiser. They are recommending I try a Optifast Program, which I have to pay for myself....I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of Kaiser. I can not change my health insurance for a few months. I think I have settled to self pay...(just waiting for my husband approval of the financing)

Viri, When is your date and what dr are you going to? I am talking to my husband about financing. I continue to tell him we can not put a price on my health. So he said he will think about it. I still have a date, February 8th.....with Dr. Aceves in Mexico.

I have a date for February and I want January to fly by so I can join the "losers". You asked where I am located, I am in CA, however, I use to live in AZ and have friends there. When I visit this summer, I am gonna IM you to see if you all are meeting.... I need to do more research to see if I can find a support group like that. I will keep you posted on my journey....

So Sara, How did it go? I am where you were. I have my surgery scheduled in February and I could not sleep last night thinking about death. I even told my husband to up the insurance...(LOL) I am afraid, but I know it must be done.

I just got off of the phone with Kaiser in Southern California and the customer service rep stated Kaiser does not cover the lapband surgery and the gastric bypass can only be done for patients whose BMI is over 40 and have other medical conditions AND all other programs that Kaiser offers has been tried... I was sad, so it looks as if I am back to thinking about self pay.

I am also a self pay and trying to convince my husband to allow me to go to Mexico for surgery. I have not found any places that are less than or close to 7800 (the cost in mexico). So I am torn with this decision also.
