Sajijoma got a reaction from judy1234 in They seemed sane...Dating horror stories
Wow I've had A LOT of bad dates, but my worst of the worst was an online date back in the day(circa 1997 before I met my husband and got married). We were on our first date and this guy picked me up in a rust bucket car full of trash and I got my favorite skirt covered in car trash ooze of some sort. He had on a dirty looking shirt and jeans that look like they'd never been washed, but I thought maybe he planned to change so I decided to just roll with it. I had a old stale hamburger bun from some rotting meal on the floor board stuck in the high heels of my boots. He stopped for gas and bought himself a drink and didn't bother asking if I wanted anything. I just said "oh no thanks I'm not thirsty" when he got in and he tried to get me to share his and spilled it all down my new blouse and my fav already ruined by now skirt! I wanted to leave so bad, but he started telling me this hardship story and I felt bad so I kept trying to go with this even thought the sirens were going off "run! Run!!". He asked where I wanted to go and I guess it was not the right thing to say, because I said, "I could go just about anywhere. I'm pretty easy!" So he tried to take me to the pay by the hour motel on the highway where all the nasty people went to get it on. Right outside this God forsaken hellhole his car broke down. I was yelling at him because A) I didn't mean THAT easy and I'm from a small town and if anyone saw me, my reputation, and my life as I knew it were going to be over. Well, so the car is dead out in front of this place and he goes knocking on doors to hotel rooms trying to get a jump for the battery, but then tells me we need to move the car out of the street, but he couldn't push it because he had open heart surgery and he isn't suppose to even lift heavy things. He had already told me about this heart condition when we were talking online so ugh I knew if I didn't push it we weren't going anywhere. So here I am, high heeled boots covered in crap, a ruined skirt and blouse, way over dressed for how he showed up, pushing his piece of crap car into the motel de skank while he sat in the drivers seat steering. I was scared someone would see me out there as that was the only thing on that stretch of highway so if you were stopped there, they knew(or thought they knew)what you were doing! So eventually this guy got his piece of crap car started and I told him to take me home(not my home but thank god I didn't have him pick me up at my own house!). We got there and he actually had the audacity to ask for another date and I just looked blank at him and said "let's not" and walked away. It was one of the worst dates of my life and actually caused me to quit dating after that until I met my now husband(also online but because I forgot to take my profile down and his response to why I said I am no longer accepting dates online was adorable).

I haven't dumped except during the soft food stages when I was ok'd to eat Bariatric vegetarian chili. It was just this side of hell. Not something you want to go looking for. I have kind of poked at that bear a few times like tasting a bite of cake(it was gross btw) and it didn't do anything to me. I've had Pasta Sauce that was over my 4g of sugar limit given to me by my NUT and still no dumping. Not all people dump so you cannot count on that safety net. You have to just go knowing that it "may" be a possibility, but don't go poking for how much you can get away with before it happens. When I recognized my behavior I made changes so I don't go testing to see what I can get away with again. It's not very beneficial in the long haul to be trying to defeat or push the limits of our surgeries.

The Bariatric Pal Store has some crunchy Protein Snacks that are pretty good. There's one that's like sour cream and onion O's. Tastes really good and we're kind funyon like....I used to love those back in the day. Scratched that itch nicely.

I was a nervous wreck in the days leading up to surgery, but the morning of my surgery I was totally Zen. The nurse even had to double check twice to make sure I hadn't already gotten the Valium or whatever because I was just so calm. I'm sure you will do fine. Just find your inner skinny personal and go Zen! [emoji6]

Sajijoma got a reaction from KindaFamiliar in What kind of exercises can a 300 pounder do?
I was 429lbs when I started. I would start by just walking across the house and pushing a rolling chair for when my legs were too tired to hold me anymore. Then I built up to doing laps around the kitchen island and then to walking the end of the block and eventually around the block and then around the subdivision. Then I added resistance bands and a fitball and started doing basic floor exercises like leg lifts and such. THEN I got an elliptical when I hit my 100lb milestone and currently I'm running 65 min programs each day and doing core building exercises or resistance training every day and when the weather is nice I can easily walk 3-4miles without huffing and puffing like a dying fish. Just find where you are starting from and challenge yourself to do a little more next time. When I first got my elliptical, I could maybe do 3 mins at a time and each time I would strive for 1 min more then 1 more and 1 level more intensity and incline til I built up to where I am. Same with walking or doing leg lifts. Start with like 5 and challenge yourself to do a few more each time and see how far you can go.

Sajijoma got a reaction from Alphabetize in Encouragement needed + How many oz per sitting week after RNY?
The restrictive feeling is from where your new stomach is swollen and it just needs time to heal. In the beginning, I could only hold 1 oz at a time. If I tried to drive all 2oz of my Protein Shake in 15 mins, I would throw up. It took at least a month before I could hold a full 2oz. Fast forward to around month 4 or 5 and it was like almost overnight that the swelling went down and I could hold substantially more-like 4oz. Now, at 6 months I can hold between 6-8oz usually.

Sajijoma got a reaction from KindaFamiliar in Sleep Apnea after WLS.
Mine wasn't diagnosed, but I definitely had it and don't now. I snored so loud my family could hear me downstairs with the doors closed, and I would wake up choking and with a pounding head most mornings. Since surgery though, I don't snore anymore. Even my husband can't believe how quiet I am now. I don't wake up choking anymore either. I really used to go to sleep each night afraid my kids would find me dead in my bed in the morning. So there is definitely hope that you can be "cured" after surgery. It probably won't be as fast as the day/week you go home, but a few months out, you might be!

Hard to believe what a difference a year can make... lost 121 lbs. so far! So glad I took "Before" pics and actually saved the clothes (3X top & 2X pants) to try on again at my 1 year Surgiversary! Here are the pics to show the difference, along with a couple of current pics in clothes that actually fit (tops M & jeans S). Having RNY (4/21/15) was one of the best decisions I've ever made! "Thank you" to all who've encouraged, supported and loved me every step of the way. Here's hoping everyone can be the Happiest and Healthiest version of themselves

About day 3 of bumping my Protein to 90 grams or so, calories around 1000, and carbs to about 30 for the day and I lost 4lbs! In one day! Then over the next few days I've lost a few more! Seems like everyone was right(except my NUT). My headaches are gone and I'm no longer passing out exhausted! Yay!

I took my before pic the night before surgery. I didn't want to look at it. I didn't want anything to do with it, but at 6 months out and down well over 100lbs I like looking at it compared to my pics of me now. It shows me how far I've come because physically I don't feel different. My mind protected me from seeing how huge I was and when I look in the mirror now I cannot see any difference, but when I take a pic and compare side by side with that first pic I'm all like "yeah, that's a major difference!"

You should just tell him. You are suppose to be a team and he can either support you, or you'll know it's time to walk away from the sinking ship, but hiding is not healthy. What if you have complications or worse yet, what if you didn't make it due to complications. He has a right to know what the risks are too doesn't he? Since he'd be the one losin his wife and shouldering the responsibility of both parents. Here's the deal. When I told my hubby I wanted gastric bypass he was NOT behind me at all, but I told him my reasons for doing it and that I was going to do it. I did my best to educate him on what it was and what it wasn't so that he would know that this was a carefully thought out decision and although he didn't like the idea, he did come around and seeing me healthy, happy, and a helluva lot more mobile now, he understands that it was the best thing for me.

omg the saga continues....need to let off steam
I am looking for lawyers and spoke to one briefly that mentioned I could get spousal support. I thought I would feel very guilty taking it knowing how tight he is financially now.
Well today he is making it much easier on me. I am trying to be respectful of his polite request to be present when I come to our apartment to pack up my things, but he's NEVER home! Every day I'm like how about today or tomorrow or this weekend and he always says he has something going on. Then he throws back at me "what do you need that is so urgent?"
Now I'm talking to him about some of our mutual things that I would like to take. I am currently staying with my parents and these things will be stored in their basement until I have my own place and he keeps throwing that in my face. When I said I want one of our area rugs he says he needs it now and I don't. When I said I want two out of the 4 book cases we have again he says he needs it now and I don't
every single thing I say I want to take he is giving me grief over even though the list of things he is keeping is so much longer than the list of things I want to take.
He is making it easy for me to want to stop being nice about this. I still have my keys, either he lets me take what I want with his blessing or he's going to come home to an empty apartment one day

I learned that if you are mentally ill, you are really screwed. And I would not use her as NUT. She said there wasn't any long term studies on success, and that's flat out not true. I really hate when someone takes a dogmatic, "Stay off the web" stance. I don't mind the cautions, but her recommendations are too extreme. But to her credit, she seems to specialize in working with hard case eating disorder people. I don't think her advise applies to anyone who is more "normal*."

I'd rather buy a couple of good bras and heavily rotate them, than wear a lesser quality bra that will have you miserable on the way down. If you plan it right, you can get good deals at Lane Bryant on bras. I just bought 2 this past week for around $40 total and then had real women dollars to cut it down even more.

Sorry not to answer you sooner @Sajijoma - I've been swamped with work lately, and a family event too. So today I knew I had a lunch meeting, so I previewed the menu and called to ask how much meat was on the steak salad (3oz) so I started logging with that, and then added foods to get to my targets.
    - Breakfast I had 1/3 of an ounce of "Just Strawberries" (crunchy dried ones with no junk added, and 1/3 ounce is quite a bit really) and a "peppermint mocha" version of my Protein drink; 1 scoop Isopure low carb chocolate flavor made hot with a cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and two shots of espresso and peppermint extract .
    - Morning snack was 4 ounces lean Board's Head sliced deli chicken and 3/4 of an ounce of home-roasted cashews I make (less fat/salt/sugar) and half an ounce of aged Gouda.
    - lunch at the restaurant was lettuce, a few grape tomatoes, a few toasted pecans and the rare steak - and light on the dressing!
    - Afternoon snack is 3 ounces non-fat Fage yogurt mixed with another scoop of Isopure Protein powder (Combat is good too!), 1/3 ounce dried Just Peaches, and a Mediterranean chicken breast skewer from costco. Also 2 tablespoons cream in my iced coffee with some stevia - yum!
    - dinner will be 4 ounces scrambled egg-whites , one slice of bacon, 3 more ounces of nonfat Fage yogurt topped with a bit of SF Torani vanilla Syrup and 2 ounces of frozen blueberries.
    - My evening snack (which I finally realized helps me avoid late night foraging!) is half a chocolate chunk Quest bar with half a tablespoon of Justin's Peanut Butter on it.
This is fairly typical, though I don't usually have that much fruit. a couple times a week I get my carbs from mug cakes or other things like Halo Top ice cream, maybe skim milk in a small Cappuccino, or Combat Protein Powder has 5 carbs to a scoop, but 25 grams of protein! My Isopure I get at the Vitamin Shoppe has no carbs or fat, but also 25 grams of Protein.< /p>
It's a LOT of food, and not right for everyone, but after a terminally long stall I finally accepted that it could be my body was needing me to eat more and be really stable in my intakes so it could stabilize enough to begin losing again.
I lift weights at the gym four days a week (two upper body days, two lower body) for about 25 minutes including stretching, and do some form of cardio on three of those days for about 20 minutes -- HIIT on the treadmill usually or by swimming laps the same way. Some days I use the torture machine (i.e. stairclimber!) but only rarely.
I've consistently lost 2 pounds per week, this week 2.5 (yay!) and I can finally say I'm never hungry or deprived feeling.
I have bread or a treat if I want to factor it in, and if it's REALLY good, but decided there's no point in eating mediocre stuff. Hope this is helpful. I aim for 60 ounces of Water each day too.
