I need inspiration surgery 5/2-17 vsg
Well you can't undo it, so there is no point crying over spilled milk. What is done is done. The food restrictions are for a very short time. 3 to 6 months. The lactose, elaborate on what make you think you are lactose intolerant now. Even if you are for the moment, you probably won't be long term. This is a short term situation. Antidepressants are unlikely to help you with situational depression that is not based on a chemical imbalance. You need to learn to make peace with your choice and move forward. Why did you choose to have surgery in the first place? Maybe remembering that choice will help.

MGB or RNY?
MGB is experimental and not done that often in the US (or at all). If you are going to get that, you might as well get the DS. You have to think long term. You want a surgery that is widely performed, so long term you have a wide variety of doctors to choose from for follow up care. Your doctor could retire one day or be hit by a car the day after your surgery. Pick something that long term the follow up care won't be an issue. This is something you live with for the rest of your life.

Movie Theatre Snacks
Drink water. I usually buy a bottle of water. Even though they only sell that nasty tap water Dasani. Sometimes I drink coffee. If you call ahead they will brew a pot for you so you don't have to wait when you get there. You might as well get used to making good choices with what is available to you, and not sneaking food into the movie theater. Nicer movie theaters have Brussel sprouts and other things that are bariatric friendly. Post-op life is easy if you understand nutrition and your nutritional needs. You can find something to eat/drink almost everywhere if you understand the basics.

Feeling defeated
Think about your staple line opening and stomach acid seeping into your chest cavity. The chance of death was the only thing that kept me sane. I went a month total without anything to chew on between pre-op and post-op diet, it will give anyone head hunger. This isn't a normal diet though, this is prescription plan to keep you safe and healthy so you can heal.

Very fearful of being nauseated
I'm always shocked when I read posts and people act like nausea is just part of having WLS. I was never nauseous. I don't think I ever vomited until like 6 months and that was my fault. You can't really read other peoples experiences and think yours will be like that, positive or negative. The majority of issues that people complain about on forums I have never experienced and the issues that I have, I never see anyone else complain about.

Not losing weight but losing my mind
I wish a long term DS person would show up here and answer @doxaholic DS people can and do need to eat a lot more than other WLS patients because of their malabsorption, and they need to, to counter that malabsorption. That is why people like having DS. You should up your calories and your protein. With the level of malabsoprtion you have, you shouldn't be eating less than 120G of protein a day. You also need a higher amount of fat. You don't really have to worry about carbs because of your malabsorption. Please do a google search, there are other forums with more active DS patients where you could get better and more accurate advice. The nutritional needs for DS patients are totally different than other WLS patients because of the extreme malabsorption levels you have. Please ask some long term DS patients. You haven't mentioned your vitamin regimen or your latest labs. Your labs have to be carefully monitored with DS

Liver Shrinking Diet - 45 grams of carbs
Count net carbs, subtracting the fiber. You will find you have a lot more carbs to work with than you think.

Liver Shrinking Diet - 45 grams of carbs
45 grams of carbs seems really generous. I was allowed 3 shakes a day. What is hard about it to you?

Weight gain post 9 months after surgery
Weigh yourself every day. Track all of your food. If you do these things, you don't have to guess why you are gaining. 5 pounds could be water weight. Without any information and summer heat, I would say water weight before a real weight gain. Are you are goal and gaining from a maintenance weight or are you still trying to lose?

Body changes
Interesting. I read some horror stories about him, but I didn't pay a lot of attention but there are a couple people he completely botched.

WORST TIME TRYING TO GET THIS DONE
Since no one else is speaking in plain English tryingbeing nice... The Sleep Apnea machine requirement and the whole sleep study is so you don't die on the table. This is major surgery and you need to be in the best health possible before you have surgery. Anesthesia is dangerous. It is the same reason why they make people do pre-op diets so their livers are smaller to make surgery easier. This isn't just some random hoops, these are for your safety.

Adjusting Your Goals and Expectations
Well once you get to 8 or 10s everything is always sold out. I miss being a 12 sometimes.

Adjusting Your Goals and Expectations
@elliekay Like @catwoman7 said DEXA scans are a great way to know what your body fat is and that is a better gauge of where you should be. You are in Illinois, almost every public university offers DEXA scans in their Sports depts, at a fraction of the commercial costs. They need the money so support your local university!

Ab workouts
When my Dr told me I could. This isn't something you should take suggestions from on the internet. There is no reason to risk a hernia. Ask YOUR DOCTOR. I was cleared at 6 weeks

Leaving dieting behind
This is the internet, forum titles are meaningless. I work from home and I'm bored a lot. I've gone easy and let her slide. I try for the most part to ignore her because she is mentally ill, but she is filling peoples heads with nonsense. She has no integrity. She is a known and admitted liar. She blew it a long time ago. I'm not personally attacking her, I am just basically stating facts, which she admitted herself. She caused a #$%^ storm of drama here then fluttered off leaving nothing but drama in her wake. She is entirely toxic. I regret nothing I said and I could write a dissertation about her, her lies and her actions. She should have been banned a long time ago but she is a professional victim and drama queen.

Adjusting Your Goals and Expectations
I set my goal weight based on my HS weight. I'm physically smaller now than I was in HS at this same weight (a lot more muscle mass). The smaller I get, the smaller I see that I can get, 10 or 20 more pounds wouldn't hurt. I have a lot of loose skin on my stomach, so yeah I can grab a lot of tummy, but it is mainly loose skin that I can't lose, its playdough. I'm almost 1/2 the size I used to be skin is to be expected. I have a goal for myself and a stretch goal, that are just for me to know not anyone else. If I do not lose anymore I am happy where I am. I feel like I will lose more just because of how I eat. It will just be at a snails pace. I'm pretty sure my body is as shocked as I am to be at this weight.

Low sugar Tomato sauces...anyone???
I find no sugar added tomato products in the regular grocery store all the time. Just read the labels. I was buying this to make low carb pizza http://mycadia.com/product.php?p=Food&c=Staples&s=25276#!/197442 Then I just started getting regular no sugar added tomato sauce at the grocery store and adding seasoning. If you read labels it isn't an issue. Hunts has a ton that don't have added sugar. Just look.
