agwj71 got a reaction from magicalwoman in pre op support needed.
Well I have to say, I have an amazing support group in my husband, kids, family and friends but none of them are my size. It's always good to have people who TRULY understand how you're feeling. The last few days since I got my approval from insurance, I have been glued to this forum. I love reading all of the different posts and knowing that I'm not alone and that how I feel is normal.

@@tjstark : see support doesn't always come from those close to you, it comes from the heart, hit me up sometime for some snappy comebacks, I have no filter so I'm very good

I haven't felt the need to rant until now! I'm 5 weeks out tomorrow and have lost a considerable amount in that time, but obviously it's not like I've shed 100lbs overnight!
That said, I'm pretty annoyed with family members that seem to think I'm going to drop 100lbs overnight. It's so annoying to hear things like, "Well, you look the same." Really? After just a few weeks? I look the same? No shit, Sherlock.
Further adding to my annoyance, a cousin from out of town came to stay for the weekend. This person has constantly cracked jokes about my weight throughout my life. He says, "You look the same, I thought you were gonna be all slim and shit." After a few weeks??? He then proceeded to make a joke that really hurt: something along the lines of, "Can you guess which one is pregnant?" while pointing to me and my two pregnant relatives. ;/
I feel really angry about this.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that! I'm hoping that I have headed everyone off at the pass by constantly saying that this is a marathon, not a sprint. So far no one has been disappointed that I haven't become super-slim. But then again it has only been a week. Having said that, I so understand your hurt and frustration. The comments, demeaning as they are, say more about the speaker than about you. I hope you can take some comfort in that. And whatever happened to respect? That cousin of yours needs to grow up in my humble opinion. Would you feel comfortable standing up to him by pointing out that that was disrespectful?

I guess you will have the last laugh when you lose a significant amount of weight after a few months. In the big picture they won't be making those comments about you for much longer.

If the cousin is in your home, you could give them a nice list of hotels in the area and tell them they are welcome to stay at one of them if they are not going to be respectful to you. There is no excuse to be ugly.
I understand this may seem harsh, but that level of rudeness is unacceptable.

People for the most part whom act like that are unhappy with the short comings in their life, whether family or friends, your Job right now is to focus on your goals and future, when you do get to shed all the weight, they will focus on other things like you "taking the easy way" and asking if your "sick", I've been very lucky up until now, I lost over 94lbs, most of it since my surgery on June 10th, now I've gotten hurt at work and I can't go to the gym for two weeks, I'm unhappy about the gym thing since I'm very addicted to working out, but I remain unfazed and focused, and plan to start over as soon as I am allowed, BTW: the hardest thing I ever did next to this was years ago when I turned my back on negative family and friends, it hurt me, but in the long run I have very inspiring family and friends that surround me now...... Good luck, you got this!!!!

Well tomorrow is the big day! My surgery is scheduled at 2pm - I have to be there at noon - I was hoping for an earlier surgery time so I didn't have to deal with NOTHING to drink all morning long! Today has been full of nerves and a little frustration due to not being able to eat anything - liquids only!
I know this is the best decision I'll make - but that doesn't help my mind freak out - I'm kinda expecting the worse and hoping for the best!!

When my last child was born via C Section I was in the hospital for a week. One of my very best friends didn't call, come by or send anything. TWO WEEKS after I was home she called. Still didn't ask how I was doing, she needed something. So now I'm lighter one "friend".

I just got the call that I am approved. I am in total shock. I honestly thought deep down that I would be denied. I thought somewhere along the way I missed something. I am ready for this and I am beyond happy. I will even admit that I cried tears of joy telling my husband. Waiting for insurance was the longest 9 days of my life but to hear a yes on the other end of the phone is the absolute best feeling. Each week I read another person say they were approved and have waited for 6 months for it to be my turn. Loser's club here I come

Well it's been a year and 154.9 pounds later I am a size 0 or 2, a small sometimes extra small. ME a small......unbelievable! This surgery is the best thing I ever did for myself. Not easy by any stretch of the imagination but well worth every second.

I have ordered samples for just about every Protein Powder made. I want to try them all before my surgery to see what I like. I know everyone says your tastes may change post op but I don't want to be starving and not like what I have on hand. Does that sound insane?

My kids (13 & 24) and I are going to Atlanta for DragonCon (yes, I'm a nerd) Labor Day weekend. We get back on the 7th and my surgery is the 10th. This is the last time I'll go at the size I am!! WHOOP!

The port is what is placed under the skin, which is sutured to your abdominal wall. This port is attached to a tube inside the body that goes to the band that is around the stomach. The port gives the surgeon access to adjust the band by making it tighter or looser by using a Huber needle (a non coring needle). The middle of the port has a rubber type stopper that the doctor puts the needle in which is attached to a syringe filled with saline. The saline goes into the tube which goes into the band. The more saline that is in the band, the tighter the band is.

Went from 271 to 135. 42DDD to 32DD but it's all the aforementioned "tube sock" rolled up into a bra. Reached 135 in a year and have been there six months. The skin has "sprung" back somewhat--the socks are shorter and the "headlights" point back the right way again--still very deflated, but not as bad as I expected. I am lucky, will have surgery to fix them in June, but all in all they aren't as bad as they could have been. I am 45 and have spent most of my life overweight with a few yoyo's but wasn't truly obese till after my first kid 16 years ago...just to give you a bit of history.

    Hi All !
I'm scheduled to have RNY on the 17th of June. I am 339, 5'4", 48. I look like the Michelin Man, lots of folds. Now my breasts already hang very low, point south and they're large. They get in the way of my arms as they seem to fall to the side of me. I HATE them, always have.
Some time after RNY, how do your breasts take the weight loss? Do some just fill back up? Do some go completely flat? Do some shrink and look perky? What happens to your breasts long after surgery?

Thanks Ladies... I'm just extremely concerned about my breasts getting worse than the already are, but when you say, "tube socks", I know I'm doomed.
In a perfect world, I could have breast augmentation, etc. but my world is not perfect. The only hope I'd have for that surgery would be if I have infectious raw spots under the skin flaps that make augmentation medically necessary.
Looks like I'll have fun shopping for well fitting bra's. Only, when I get home from work, that sucker comes off asap! I always say, "Let the Krakons loose!" lol. Then they're all up in my business. Oh well. Life could be worse. :-)

I started following Whole30 in June and cannot believe the change in how much better I feel overall. Now I'm mostly Paleo. I eat meat, veggies, fruits and certain fats. I avoid alcohol, grains, dairy and legumes. The only sugar I eat is from those naturally occurring in food, mostly fruit.
I will have a rare treat if the occasion warrants it though. For example, my cousin is getting married next month and I may have a bite of cake. Ok. Maybe a few bites. ????

I do a low-ish carb diet. I have meat and/or eggs and green vegetables at virtually every meal. I do moderate dairy: yogurt, whey Protein Powder, grass-fed butter, and occasionally small amounts of cheese. I eat fruit and nuts as Snacks (in addition to Jerky and more green veggies). Excluded: grains, starchy veggies, dairy milk, alcohol, Beans and legumes, and sweets.
I make rare exceptions on special occasions, but they really are rare. This particular plan works well for me because if I eat sweets or other carby foods my cravings go absolutely insane. This diet keeps them in check.
